How much longer does Paula Zahn have in her contract?
Comment by Noelle — March 1, 2007 @ 11:17 am
No idea but seems her contract must be approaching renewal (or not) time. I seldom watched her program before but this new format with the “Out in the Open” has delivered some very interesting, thought provoking programs lately. However doesn’t seem to be delivering viewers. My guess is she won’t be at CNN much longer or at least in that time slot.

PZ got beat by Robin & Co. again in the demo! And I believe Christi Paul was filling in. Some of the topics PZ has been covering recently definitely need some discussion in the media. But, when PZ covers something, hardly anyone pays attention because it doesn’t really matter what she says…NO ONE CARES! She is the most irrelevant anchor/host/whatever on cable news primetime, period.

Agreed Terance. But why doesn’t CNN either:
1) promote her show, or
2) cancel her show, or
3) move it to another time?
How often do you see her show promoted? And how often AC360? And if they’re going to basically let her show die, why do they keep it in the most watched hour of the day, letting the competition have the lead-in hour of primetime? Is anyone in charge at CNN?

Erljr, great questions… My best guess is they’re trying to keep PZ on the air with her $700K a year contract. (which totally ignores the fact of Aaron Brown sitting at home getting paid, which I can’t explain) How would you begin to promote Paula Zahn?? Seeing that her show seems to change direction once a week and she doesn’t exactly possess any marketable qualities, IMO. The only logical thing I can see her doing is “People in the News” type stuff/docs. (which Brown could of done instead of hosting in prime time for the remainder of his contract) Maybe CNN has kept her on so they have a female representative in prime time? I really don’t know how CNN could be so “disconnected” from her paltry ratings and lack of buzz. Plain and simple PZ isn’t appointment viewing. The same can be said about Obrien&Obrien who are allowed to stink up the joint every morning. AC360 definitely gets some promotion “action”, but I’d rather them spend it on someone thats “going places”. And PZ is the furthest thing from that I can imagine.

CNN reminds me of CBS. They just don’t get it. They can spend all the money in the world promoting people like Anderson Cooper and the viewers aren’t going to buy it. They are out of tune with the American people. I’d rather watch an hour of my local news channel then an hour of CNN.
They were in first place and now they are in second place with MSNBC nipping at their heels and somedays they are in third place. I see it only getting worse there, not better. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make him drink.

Terance,
Bull’s Eye with your number three posting.
I just don’t care what she has to say.

What almost every other network, broadcast or cable, does is to lead primetime(8pm ET) with their strongest show. MSNBC leads with Countdown. FNC leads with O’Reilly. Look at all the others: Lifetime, USA, Fx, TNT, HBO, Fox broadcast (although they put stuff with mature themes later). FNC puts their weakest primetime show(Greta) at the end. So does MSNBC(Scarborough). Just think of the headlines if Larry King beat O’Reilly once a week. But no, CNN will just never see the light. Oh, well…
