Beck vs. Olbermann: Olbermann fires back…

Tuesday, Glenn Beck talked about Keith Olbermann’s comments regarding him and how he might eventually self-destruct. Then a day or two later Beck almost did just that with a poor attempt at humor that embarrassed his guest, himself, and his network. Watching the poor woman’s expression change after the “joke” is painful. Naturally, Beck wound up as Keith Olbermann’s Worst Person In The World for it. YouTube has the video

  1. Note how Olbermann didn’t respond by rebutting Beck’s point per se. He threw a different stone at Beck. Now, will Beck respond directly to Olbermann?

  2. Let’s see how long it is before we have people here defending Beck’s behavior simply because of his shared distaste for Olbermann.

  3. Olbermann doesn’t need to respond to Beck’s point when Beck sticks his foot….okay both feet…in his mouth like that and gives credence to Olbermann’s notion that Glenn Beck really is a ticking time bomb. Olbermann probably would have responded in some fashion to Beck (though I doubt he’d do a point by point rebuttal) except why go for a three pointer from half court when you can dunk from a ladder thanks to Glenn’s self-inflicted present to Keith?

  4. Though I must admit Beck didn’t do himself any favors. He gave KO the ammo with that clip.

  5. “except why go for a three pointer from half court when you can dunk from a ladder”

    Bwah - I am so stealing this…

  6. The thing with this is that KO gets to hit back Glenn in an area where i doubt Glenn will try and engage in back and forth.
Seriously that is my greatest issue with Beck, he tries really hard to be funny but most of his jokes never fly, some of them being downright offensive and odd, this is an example of one such joke.

  7. “the other segments of his show aren’t opinion segments, its where he interview guests, most of which are moderates.”

No excusing what Beck said, but Sam, I’m still waiting for that long list of “moderates” you claim are Olbermann’s usual guests. Take your time.

I’d also love to hear your rationale for how most of KO’s segments aren’t “opinion segments”. Other than Oddball, all of them are Keith’s opinion.

  8. Neither one of them wants to engage in a back and forth. They both pointed out something the other had said that was DUMB. Neither wants to respond directly to the charges leveled against them. They have more in common than either would admit.

And Spud, the link to Beck’s comment about Olbermann now goes to Robert Cox’s final Olbermannwatch page. Can you provide a new link?

  9. I guess I don’t get it. It was a joke that the guest didn’t laugh at. I was listening to the entire segment on XM and didn’t think much of it but I couldn’t see the expressions of course. KO needs to get a life. That had to be the dumbest WPIW i’ve seen yet. KO is that kid everyone knew who would act like an idiot to get attention and most peole would just roll their eyes in sympathy for the sheer stupidity of the person.

  10. As Sam said, this was an lame attempt at humor and it fell flat, especially to the lady from US magazine. Humor on these editorial programs is difficult and when it doesn’t work, which is quite often, the result is embarrassing to all concerned.

  11. No I can’t provide one. My guess is they wiped out the whole damn site. Too bad because that clip was directly off of it.

  13. Yes Glenn!Youtried for a joke that back in the day at the bar might get a few laughs but this live t.v..

Any level headed person can see Beck made a dopey joke that bombed and then he as Spud said got caught with his foot in his mouth. I would add half his leg.

And he gave Olby a free shot! Next time Glenn learn to cover up after you let a dopey one fly. Remember Glenn, you’re getting into a pissing match with a skunk.

  14. It was a joke, yes, but it was sexist and ill-timed by Beck. If she had been warned and been part of the “joke” then it would not have been so uncomfortable. His stupidity is indefensible.

    Comment by Keyser Soze — March 2, 2007 @ 9:17 pm

  15. I don’t know what’s sadder…Beck’s stupid comments, or Ann Coulter refering to John Edwards as a ‘faggot’ at the CPAC.

    Comment by Bill — March 2, 2007 @ 9:46 pm

  16. Becks joke went over the girls head .Anns joke went over like a lead balloon .Comedy is a bi-ch!

  17. Thanks for the new link FishOil. Anyone else making comments on this string should watch both clips first.

I append my previous comment(#8): In Beck’s clip, even though it happened first, he actually has a response to Olbermann’s WPITW clip. He says he makes dopey comments sometimes and, yes, one slip of the tongue could ruin his television career someday.

Bill - Are you kidding? There’s no comparison. Coulter’s fag comment is indefensible. Are you seriously comparing that to Olbermann’s and Beck’s comments. You need help Bill.

  18. I’m sick of all of it. Olbermann attacks Beck, Beck then attacks Olbermann. Olbermann gets frustrated… obsesses over O’Reilly. O’Reilly over-exaggerates and attacks the entire NBC news devision… For some reason, Scarborough thinks someone cares about his opinion, he goes after O’Reilly…

Just stop commenting on each other and comment on important things, like the Iraq? or Afghanistan? or Darfur? or the presidential race? I’ve just about had enough…

  19. “Becks joke went over the girls head.”

Yeah, it’s always been my experience that when I talk sexist trash at some dame and she gets all huffy, it’s because she just didn’t GET it.

    *roll eyes*
