CNN to air Documentary on charter Bus accident…

CNN announced that it will air “CNN: Special Investigations Unit – Fatal Journey” about the charter bus accident that killed six people last week and also examine highway safety on Sunday March 11th at 8pm ET.

I have to ask the question: If this accident hadn’t happened in CNN’s backyard in Atlanta and had instead happened in Flagstaff, Arizona, where CNN couldn’t pour all the people on the story that it did when it happened, would the network still have expanded what was for all intents and purposes just another highway incident, albeit with a slightly larger death toll than average, into a full blown documentary?

In the pre-dawn hours of Friday, March 2, a charter bus transporting the Bluffton University baseball team to Sarasota, Florida, tore through a guardrail and plunged 30 feet onto Interstate 75 near downtown Atlanta. The accident took the lives of four players, the bus driver and the bus driver’s wife.

CNN: Special Investigations Unit – Fatal Journey will investigate both the accident and whether highway safety is being compromised by the urgent need for more highway capacity in America’s growing cities. Fatal Journey airs on Saturday, March 10, and Sunday, March 11, at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. All times Eastern.

CNN investigative correspondent Drew Griffin and CNN: Special Investigations Unit will employ a bus and helicopter to re-enact the fateful journey of the Ohio students.

Speaking to survivors and their families, transportation authorities, rescue workers and traffic experts, CNN will scrutinize the accident, examine lessons learned from similar accident investigations and focus on what can be done to prevent future accidents. CNN also visits with a family struggling to cope with the loss of a son in the accident and listens as surviving players ponder why they survived while others lost their lives.

  1. In other news…Keith Olbermann will blame the Bush Administration for the accident and name CNN as “Worst People in the World” for helping to cover up President Bush’s involvement.

  2. We were in Atlanta in December and have been there many times, we also had an experience where the road layout sent us off in the wrong direction. Good job CNN for bringing more attention to the poor road designs in Atlanta.

  3. Look at all the angles they can go with the story. The complexity of the road…the survival stories…how can accidents be prevented in the future. Yea, blame CNN that it all happened in its own backyard and covered it well. I guess that’s their fault huh? It was a big story and CNN pulled it off again doing what it does best…covering real news!
