Tuesday’s Numbers…
What happened to CNN last night? Paula Zahn, Anderson Cooper, even Larry King…well off their averages. 360 was so low at 11pm that MSNBC and HLN both beat it out for 2nd in Total Viewers and the Demo. MSNBC came in 4th in the Total Day Demo and 5th in the Primetime Demo. O’Reilly was having an off night as well, falling under 2 million Total Viewers for the first time in a while.

Seriously! What on earth was Greta covering that everyone had to see? Please say she’s not still all over ANS?
Comment by Arthur — March 14, 2007 @ 4:59 pm
Ouch! CNN did do poorly last evening. No idea who LK had on but AC360 was a decent program with one segment being a sit down interview with Thomas Roberts as follow up to Sins of the Father.
Comment by myview — March 14, 2007 @ 5:06 pm
Just checked at Greta’s site and she was indeed all about baby custody battles and DNA tests. Unbelievable.
Comment by Arthur — March 14, 2007 @ 5:16 pm
Arthur, the sad thing is according to the ratings lately that is what so many people seem to consider important.
Comment by myview — March 14, 2007 @ 5:19 pm
Al, of the numbers seemed high 2 or 3 weeks ago. Now they all seem low. Is it shows coming back from hiatus? Is it American Idol? Is it the slow news cycle? Is it all three or something else?
Comment by erljr — March 14, 2007 @ 5:27 pm
Myview, I guess we’re a pair of those news snobs I keep hearing about…
Comment by Arthur — March 14, 2007 @ 5:29 pm
“All” is the correct word at the beginning. I don’t know anyone named Al.
Comment by erljr — March 14, 2007 @ 5:29 pm
Wow, They pay Anderson Cooper $4,000,000 a year to bring in 590 viewers? Does anyone see a problem here? Wake-up CNN!
Comment by Noelle — March 14, 2007 @ 5:46 pm
It was American Idol and greta. By the way Greta did 1/2 her show on ANS as did most everone else. If you dont like whats on cable news why dont hit the remote or go to NPR. Cable is what it is get over it.
Comment by bud — March 14, 2007 @ 5:49 pm
2 hour Idol affect?
Comment by Lurker — March 14, 2007 @ 5:54 pm
That’s what Greta covers. I mean, she was all over the Natalie Hollaway story for countless months. I don’t care about those stories, so I don’t watch, but there are plenty of people who do.
Comment by bigred — March 14, 2007 @ 6:07 pm
everyone seems to have a life and turned off the news channels to watch american idol… lol

They could hire Keith and pay him $4mil per year like MS does. Either way, no one will catch Fox. It’s always going to be Fox ( center to center right ) vs. all the rest.
Comment by jim — March 14, 2007 @ 6:31 pm
There is no ‘center’ to Fox!
Comment by Mike — March 14, 2007 @ 6:55 pm
Is there a “center” to CNN and MSNBC?
Comment by Noelle — March 14, 2007 @ 7:04 pm
Noelle: It lies between Matthews’s far left views and Olby’s extreme left opinions.
Comment by Edward Schatz — March 14, 2007 @ 7:08 pm
Has it ever happened that O’Reilly’s demo numbers are stronger at 11:00 than his prime time? American Idle?
Comment by Ricky — March 14, 2007 @ 9:36 pm
Guys, Greta is all about crime and “whodunit” type programs, so get used to it! She did interview the President the other day, and has interviewed many politicians and other people that I’d think you would hold in some type of esteem, yet we heard no praise from any of you.
As someone wrote on another thread, if you don’t like it, watch PBS!
And BTW, those “trashy” car chases everyone complains about? They’re addictive, and bring in the highest ratings, as I think Spud (or TV Newser) has shown. Again, get used to it, or go online instead.
Comment by Missy — March 14, 2007 @ 10:21 pm
glenn beck was beat 2-1 by olbermann in the total viewers, but beat olbermann in the demo. what does that say?
Comment by william devan — March 14, 2007 @ 11:24 pm
This may be the most bizarre cable news ratings day I’ve ever seen. At some point, it does get pretty ridiculous that so many people are concerned about the “ratings race” when the numbers are so insignificant.
Comment by The Voice of Reason — March 14, 2007 @ 11:39 pm

True. Even the highest draw of cable news, O’Reilly, gets less than 1% of the population on a good night!
Yet we see the MSM make a HUGE deal when MSNBC personalities get even one fifth of that number in a night. Go figure.
Comment by Missy — March 15, 2007 @ 12:09 am
The Deal or No Deal rerun again crushed Olbermann. Since MSNBC pleaded with CNBC to move the Deal or No Deal rerun out of Olbermann’s time slot at 8 p.m. to prevent further humiliation to Olbermann, the Deal or No Deal numbers should still be compared to the competition at 8 p.m. Consequently, Olbermann came in an abysmal fourth place out of five shows in the critical, all-important, key demo.
Comment by Tom — March 15, 2007 @ 12:23 am
Is Keith Olbermann so deseperate for ratings these
days that he actually did a segment on Countdown on
Wednesday called in and out. It was suppose to be
about banter between Simon and Ryan from American
Idol. But somehow Michael Musto and Keith Olbermann
both managedd to say Anderson Cooper. Is it possible
for MSNBC to sink any lower.Somehow I think KO
will regret and so will MSNBC and NBC. Going on
the airwaves to make sugguestions about a competitors
sexuality is a new low. If I had not seen this
with my own eyes, I do not think I would have
thought anyone would use a progam on cable news
for such a cheap shot.
Comment by future tv mogul — March 15, 2007 @ 1:30 am
Olbermann also referred to a Hispanic as a “house boy”. But it’s ok. He’s a liberal, so he can get away with it. There won’t be a bit of backlash. When conservatives say something totally out of line, like Coulter’s comments, conservatives call them on it.
I won’t hold my breath waiting for any Dem, mainstream media member, liberal to discount what Olbermann said.
Comment by bigred — March 15, 2007 @ 2:15 am
Typical liberal like Olbermann to say something racist about a minority conservative who doesn’t share his radical view.
Comment by AW — March 15, 2007 @ 4:20 am
24:
Just like the MSM and TV Critics have given him a pass for using the ter, “monkey” at Chris Wallace, his smear of Albert Pujols, his repeated use of “Fat A$^” to describe Roger Ailes and his repeated mockery of the personal failings of other people. But I agree with you, that since KO is KO,the MSM will give him a pass.
