Neil Cavuto profile…

WebMD Magazine’s Jennifer Dixon has a profile of Your World host Neil Cavuto…

When news anchor Neil Cavuto was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis a decade ago — after surviving stage IV Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the late ’80s — he sought second opinions in New York, Atlanta, Minnesota, and London, in his attempt to refute the undeniable.

Ten years later, Cavuto both accepts his MS and defies it. Doctors marvel at his MRI scans because they indicate a man unable to walk or talk. Yet while he sometimes has difficulty doing both, the Fox News anchor is remarkably fit, exercising on a stationary bike and treadmill to stave off muscle atrophy of the legs, a common problem in MS patients. Cavuto, 48, has the secondary progressive form of the disease, meaning it steadily worsens over time.

He has fatigue, headaches, trouble walking, some vision loss, and — occasionally — hoarseness. “Having difficulty talking isn’t good in my profession, but my wife welcomes it,” jokes the anchor, who memorizes scripts for his program, Your World With Neil Cavuto, in case he can’t read the teleprompter during taping.

  1. Cavuto’s got one of the best programs on cable, and it’s amazing that he puts out such a good product despite of what is going on with his health. He’s a real class act.

  2. Much respect from a fellow Hodgkins lymphoma survivor. I hope his specific lymphoma phenotype was more permanently curable than my type, which is “manageable,” but unfortunately, not “curable.”

  3. Where are the Fox haters? I’m surprised that venemous group hasn’t posted something stupid yet.

  4. Wow! Before I read this I never realized he had MS. He’s truly a pro.

  6. I’ve seen the devastating effects of MS first hand, and for Cavuto to carry on, day after day, for years is truly inspiring. He’s very good at what he does.

  7. Neil is amazing. He received an award last year from some fatherhood group, he and his wife raised a daughter and sent her to college and then adopted 2 little boys who came from a very troubled background. Knowing he has accomplished everything he has while battling MS really puts things in perspective.

  8. Today during one segment, Neil went into a slight coughing spell and because he was constantly on camera, couldn’t take a drink. Yet he soldiered through like the professional that he has always been.

  9. I’ve heard Neil talk about his daughter, but I didn’t know he and his wife adopted two boys. They’re both remarkable people for giving the best of themselves when life is hitting them with the worst.
All the best to you, Allan.
