Does MARATHON war coverage by MSNBC boost there ratings much??
Was the MARATHON an effort to boost ratings or just to stand for somthing they believe in??
Comment by Clak — March 20, 2007 @ 6:56 pm
“Olbyloon” seems back on track, with Friday’s 221 (good for him for a Friday) followed by Monday’s 249, above, after a few really slow nights. Seems that on his good nights, like above, he beats Paula & Nancy pretty soundly, while on his bad nights, he can lose to either (or both) of them, but usually not by so much.
Comment by Demoman — March 20, 2007 @ 7:13 pm
Elsewhere on MSNBC, though: Tucker’s gotta go. 76K demo? It’s not clear that MSNBC would do worse if they put a test pattern up at 6.
Comment by Demoman — March 20, 2007 @ 7:17 pm
Yeah but who or what would they replace him with? An outside person and end up with another Rita Cosby type situation? Maybe an in house solution like Susan Filan or Lisa Daniels and go with a legal program?
Comment by Steve — March 20, 2007 @ 7:26 pm
They could replace Tucker Carlson with a “Lockup” from 2000 and it’d get better ratings replaying 5 days a week. And I vote for Lisa Daniels!

“Was the MARATHON an effort to boost ratings or just to stand for somthing they believe in”
In some circles, the war in Iraq is still newsworthy. If I want marathon coverage of Anna Nicole I will be sure to tune in to Fox News.
Comment by elmonica — March 20, 2007 @ 7:39 pm
elmonica, you intrigue me. What are your goals… you’re hopes… what do you do? And more importantly… what do you hope to accomplish here?
Your posts are always a variation of the same theme (FOX bad!)… and I’m just wondering why is that? What is it about you that you do this night after night? Who is, “elmonica?”
Comment by ImNotBlue — March 20, 2007 @ 7:57 pm
I know BOR is still well ahead of all competition, but his numbers are still well below the numbers hes been averaging in the past month. I remember seeing him around 2.4-2.5 million viewers, but for the past week, he has been around 2-2.2 million viewers.
Comment by Randy — March 20, 2007 @ 7:58 pm
I had to laugh at that Randy. BOR numbers still in the 2 million and you are complaining. LOL
Comment by Noelle — March 20, 2007 @ 8:41 pm
#7 - elmonica is a bot programmed by moveon.org
Comment by Lurker — March 20, 2007 @ 9:04 pm
Why isnt this a fair point to bring up? I personally have to laugh at YOU. I understand that he is still by far in the lead, but why to you does it not matter that he has lost recently over 250,000 viewers than normal. I seem to remember the days when he was drawing well over 3 million viewers. What happened to those days? I think I saw a day last week when he drew 1.8 Million.
Comment by Randy — March 20, 2007 @ 9:06 pm
Personally I wish Fox News would have covered the four year anniversary more yesterday. I think they would of had a higher than normal number of viewers if they covered it more in depth..
Comment by Clak — March 20, 2007 @ 9:26 pm
Eddie Schwatz (famous for celebrating with $40 champagne on the return of Olbermannwatch.com) finds me intriguing too.
However, considering that 90% of you live to point out Olbermanns’ ratings fluctuations, I hope you won’t take offense when I laugh at your hypocrisy.
Comment by elmonica — March 20, 2007 @ 9:29 pm
Also Lou Dobbs Should be moved into paula zahns 8pm hour.
Hardball should have more vieweres than the situtaion room.
Tucker Carlson should have more viewsers than mad money.
Comment by Clak — March 20, 2007 @ 9:31 pm
If you are going to comment about me, I’d appreciate it if you’d at least spell my name correctly. And though this means you’ll call me it from here on out, I LOATHE the name Eddie. Edward, Ted and Teddy are acceptable. Was it only $40? I thought I would have spent more for that celebration……oh yeah it was on sale. Good drinking indeed.
And Monday is always Olberführer’s best day
Comment by Edward Schatz — March 20, 2007 @ 9:40 pm
My apologies Edward for butchering your name.
And thank you for indirectly confirming my point. Some people, including the Young Republican, are as predictable as a rainy day in Seattle
Comment by elmonica — March 20, 2007 @ 9:51 pm
Can I still find you intriguing? That’s hardly predictable.
I don’t deny I am predictable about Olby, though. :)
Comment by Edward Schatz — March 20, 2007 @ 9:54 pm
elmonica- Okay, so you’ve said why you like laughing at the folks who like laughing at KO’s ratings. But that doesn’t really explain your hatred of FOX, and what you hope to accomplish.
And I like being called “The Young Republican”…. Not for the Republican bit… but anytime you have a “The” infront of your name, you’ve got to be pretty cool.
Comment by ImNotBlue — March 20, 2007 @ 10:03 pm
Randy — Just the other day you said Olbermann’s numbers were low because of basketball. I also have been watching all of the basketball games and might have missed some of my regular viewing like O’Reilly. The big difference to me is O’Reilly’s demo at 11:00pm, 370,000, second only to first run by Shep at 7:00pm and himself at 8:00pm.
Clak — I am sure Abrams is unhappy about Hardball’s numbers, they spend alot of money on that show, college tours, promoting Matthews, etc. and not much return.
After all of the viewers he is exposed to on the college tours one would think that he would get more return than 171,000 in the demo.
Comment by Aunt Mary — March 20, 2007 @ 10:08 pm
I enjoy hardball over situation room.
I also do believe the Keetho does deserve the ratings he gets. Its to bad he can not get himself into second place in the cable news ratings. Unfortunately for Keetho Fox gobbles up all the top spots and Lou Dobbs has higher numbers than him. It would be so interesting for Lou to Move into 8pm hour…..
Comment by Clak — March 20, 2007 @ 10:25 pm
Mary, basketball was only on on Thursday and Friday during the week. Second, I dont really care what his repeat does, I am only talking about the 8PM show. Again, I realize that O’Reilly is still far in first, I just think its worth noting that his number over the past week have been down.
Comment by Randy — March 20, 2007 @ 10:28 pm
Also Mary, as it appears, BOR is down over 200,000 viewers from February to March, and he is also down in the demo.
Comment by Randy — March 20, 2007 @ 10:45 pm
Clak — I have watched Chris Matthews since the O.J. days missing only a few shows. I often do not agree with Chris but I do think he has the most interesting guests on MSNBC.
I do not think Lou Dobbs would want to go to 8:00pm because he would lose viewers. I think that many people that watch his show go to O’Reilly at 8:00pm. If I had to pick at 8:00pm I would watch O’Reilly and maybe DVR Dobbs. It would be like Deal of No Deal when it was on at 8:00pm, it killed Olbermann’s numbers but did nothing to O’Reilly. Abrams quickly had CNBC move it out of there.
Comment by Aunt Mary — March 20, 2007 @ 10:45 pm
And Monday is always Olberführer’s best day (Eddie Schatzführer, comment #15 above)
Factcheck: Wrong. Wasn’t his best day last week. Wasn’t his best day the week before. Would’ve kept checking, but it’s clear that Eddie was just making stuff up.
After all of the viewers [Matthews] is exposed to on the college tours one would think that he would get more return than 171,000 in the demo. (Aunt Mary, comment #19 above)
Mostly he’s then “exposed to” college students, and most of them aren’t old enough to count in the demo.
Comment by Factchecker — March 20, 2007 @ 10:52 pm
I agree with you O’reilly and Lou share alot of the same viewership. Thats interesting your observation on deal or no deal and gettin it moved out of the same time slot as keetho.
This is like the only forum I have ever posted anything on. Makes me wonder why commenting on cable news ratings is so interesting.
I think it is a means of cheering for that news person that either agrees with your political postion and or you find interesting.
It is also fun to ask questions like why dont paula Z and reeta C look for new jobs together. They both need to find new lines of work.
Its easy as a viewer to make these decisions for the networks to bad we cant just vote them off the air…
Comment by Clak — March 20, 2007 @ 11:01 pm
“If I want marathon coverage of Anna Nicole I will be sure to tune in to Fox News.”
Come on el… at least have some valid criticisms. I had FOX on most of the day and heard very little about Anna Nicole. Greta probably covered it ad nauseum, but that’s one show.
Don’t you have some conservative bias complaints to throw out?
Comment by bigred — March 20, 2007 @ 11:12 pm
Aunt Mary, I too like Matthews and watch him when I can, even though I often disagree with him. Not only does he have on great guests, but he clearly knows his politics.
The problem that Matthews has is two-fold. One, he has a horrible lead-in. Something has to be done w/ Tucker. I honestly thought the new set, decent lighting, and better guests would help some but it obviously hasn’t. Truth be told, his show was much better when it appeared late night as “The Situation”.
Second, I find it unfathomable that MSNBC would have TWO taped programs right in the middle of the day (which goes hand-in-glove with their two taped programs at night I guess). HELLO FOLKS: News does develop from 5-7 CST. If Matthews had one live show at 6 CST and had a decent lead-in, I think he would beat Blitzer more often, with some regularity.
Comment by The Voice of Reason — March 20, 2007 @ 11:26 pm
Dont forget Gibson bigred. I belive he referred to people like me as snobs, because we dont like that he covers Anna Nicole more than Iraq.
Comment by Randy — March 20, 2007 @ 11:37 pm
Wow. Olbermann moved out of FOURTH place out of FIVE for once. Impressive. Did she have someone guest hostessing on Monday night?
Comment by Tom — March 21, 2007 @ 12:02 am
Clak — Hope you enjoy commenting on this blog everyone here is very civil when compared to other hate filled blogs.
#24 - Factchecker — In my #19 comment I started to type — I know that most college students are younger than the demo. However, a great deal of advertizing is done for this tour and that reaches many students that are over 25,
parents, faculty, admin staff, etc. — that could all be in the demo.
#27 — The Voice of Reason — I agree that Tucker’s old show was much, much better, I miss the bowtied. I loved him on Crossfire, he was on his game then. He has tried to conform to MSNBC’s liberal views and it is not working out for him.
#27 Randy — Do you think you need more Iraq coverage so you would be better informed or do you just want only the bad news in hopes that it will bash Bush? The American people are really quite smart, they know it is tuff in Iraq, they want it over “BUT” they do not want to lose!!!
Comment by Aunt Mary — March 21, 2007 @ 3:10 am
Randy is ANTI- FOX!
Comment by Chet — March 21, 2007 @ 9:48 am
Factchecker, even though I think are an idiot I do appreciate that you link to b0g. That site is one of the most amusing around. If you are going to “fact check” me, go back more than two weeks. I’ll grant you this much though, Monday is USUALLY Olbersturmführer’s best night.
Comment by Edward Schatz — March 21, 2007 @ 4:27 pm
If you are going to “fact check” me, go back more than two weeks.
Um, maybe you should check back more than ZERO weeks before you just make some “fact” up.
Comment by Factchecker — March 21, 2007 @ 6:09 pm
Um, genius, did you answer my question? No. KO gets his best numbers USUALLY on Monday and Wednesday. Who are you anyway? Some lurker who finally decided to come out of the Olby closet?
Comment by Edward Schatz — March 21, 2007 @ 7:16 pm
Hate to admit this, but I think the big ratings for the seasonal debut of Dancing With the Stars affected all the numbers at 8&9 PM ET.
Comment by Ira — March 21, 2007 @ 7:42 pm
Um, genius, did you answer my question? No.
Um, if you review your comment (#32), you’ll find that YOU ASKED ME NO QUESTION. So we can see who’s the genius here.
In 15, you said always on Monday. I factchecked you in 24. In 32, you changed it to usually on Monday. Now in 34, it’s usually on Monday and Wednesday. Who knows whether any of these ever-changing claims is true? You’ve cited no evidence, and keep changing your claim. There’s certainly a decent chance that one of them might be true…
Comment by Factchecker — March 22, 2007 @ 12:05 am
Christ, I’ll make it more direct for you. HAVE YOU GONE BACK MORE THAN TWO MONDAYS? Don’t blab about something after looking at two Mondays and your third post on here and you are the “Fact checker.” I don’t know what authority you think you are, but certainly not one to take seriously when you make your first comment using two Monday’s worth of data. Good work, Sherlock.
Comment by Edward Schatz — March 22, 2007 @ 2:17 am
I’m not going to sit here and go through 52 Mondays just to satisfy some so called “Fact checker” that has offered nothing except two days worth of a counter claim. I amended my statement to placate your disapproval with my absolutes. I am not backing off my claim that Monday is KOs best night (or usually his best night - I’ll just play ambiguous with you).
Comment by Edward Schatz — March 22, 2007 @ 2:20 am
Relax, Edward! So, you were just making stuff up, and you got caught. No need to blow a gasket.
A clue: Nobody’s going to play nice if you start your comment sarcastically calling them “Genius.” Do that if you want to play rough. But then it’s a good idea not to be the one making the dumb mistake (”Um, genius, did you answer my question?” when you asked no question) while you accuse the other person of being dumb. They can’t just let that sit; they have to call you on that one. Really no choice. And when you get called on it, as is inevitable, coming completely unhinged doesn’t seem a good choice. A little grace; perhaps silence. Both would be better.
