Wallace responds to Olbermann taunts…

HotAir.com has the audio of Chris Wallace responding to Keith Olbermann bestowing upon him Worst Person in the World…

You know something? He’s a joke. First of all, he doesn’t even have his facts right because in fact if he had paid any attention - but it was probably moving too fast for him…he could handle sports highlights - he’d know that in fact Brit and I were disagreeing. I was saying in fact that I thought she had gotten a raw deal from the White House and Brit - he’s (Olbermann - Spud) right - Brit was saying that…he was questionig her story. I was defending her. But that would be a little too complicated for Keith Olbermann.

There was some more back and forth between Wallace and radio host Mike Gallagher (including Wallace recycling Lloyd Bentsen’s 1988 debate line of “I met Edward R. Murrow. My father worked with Edward R. Murrow. And Keith Olbermann you are no Edward R. Murrow”) which led to this…

That got me going. I’ve had a thing about this for a while because I watch him and I think “This is what the news business has become”. First of all, to be lectured about news by Keith Olbermann is like being called ugly by a frog. And the idea that this guy - doing the crap he does on MSNBC - would sit there and pretend to be some sort of Murrow or journalistic authority about anything…he couldn’t cover a two alarm fire.

  2. I feel the need to say something more profound (sarcasm), thank god a real journalist finally put Olby in his place. I wonder if Olby has balls to come back and say something. And he has left his bathtub/desk for one thing: spring training. I wonder what the gal pals are going to say.

  5. YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It’s about time. Olbermann won’t have the stones to answer, either. Just like he didn’t again Mark Levin.

  7. Chris Wallace is an embarassment and a disgrace to his father’s good name.

Besides we are talking about the network that has the gall to call itself fair and balance and continues to display graphics such as this

    Comment by elmonica — March 27, 2007 @ 12:54 am

  8. El, can your posts possibly be more pathetic? You can’t point to one instance of Wallace being partisan, or lacking journalistic credentials, so you post one picture from a segment with no contest as to what day it aired, what show it aired on, what the discussion was about… Was it an opinion show? What did the next graphic say?

    Comment by bigred — March 27, 2007 @ 1:05 am

  9. Context, that is.

    Comment by bigred — March 27, 2007 @ 1:05 am

  10. Calling Johnny Dollar!!

Give us the video on this please so Red can have some context.

    Comment by elmonica — March 27, 2007 @ 1:12 am

  11. The context is simple. That was a graphic displayed while Hannity was doing a commentary on his Sunday night show. Billed and presented as an opinion program. Unlike Olbermann’s show, billed and presented as news, but with banners just as opinionated.

  12. What a shocker that a blue blog would mislead…

  15. Randy, are you really that foolish to think no one here knows what you are talking about? Don’t insult my intelligence. Need we rehash that regardless of whether or not fascist saluting Olbersturmfuhrer meant monkey as a reference to Wallace being jewish it was nonetheless offensive and can be an insult on that level? Last time I checked, frog wasn’t.

  18. Chris Wallace was correct in his assertion that Keith Olbermann is no Edward R. Murrow. I do believe that Olbermann has stated that he isn’t trying to compare himself to Murrow, but then again why would he steal his signature sign-off?
In any event, I consider Olbermann to be a simple pundit who obviously leans left. This is fine by me. However, if he is going to attack journalists in his “Worst Person” segment, then he better expect some blowback - especially when he doesn’t have all of the facts straight.
What strikes me the most about Olbermann’s program is that it has evolved to the point where anyone who even gives the conservative viewpoint the benefit of the doubt is labeled as a “Republican water carrier” or the like. To me, this is over-the-top in terms of analysis and just erodes at his credibility. It seems that he is trying to position himself as a lone voice of truth in a wilderness of spin and Republican apologists, but the truth is that his show is as biased and, many times, inaccurate as the other shows (and network) that he takes exception to.
It will be interesting to see what becomes of “Countdown” if the Democrats maintain the majority in Congress and take the Presidency in 2008 - will he become a “Democratic water-carrier” and thus a parody of those he excoriates on a weekly basis?

    Comment by FishOil — March 27, 2007 @ 4:10 am

  19. He’s already there FishOil. Even though I couldn’t stand Countdown (but watched from time to time to see what he was ranting about), I used to enjoy listening to KO on Dan Patrick’s radio show on ESPN Radio. However, now his bias is coming through on that show too and it makes him very unpleasant to listen to. If he would actually be honest enough to admit that his show is an opinion/commentary show that would be one thing. But his insistence that it’s a news show it just ludicrous.

And to go after legitimate, proven journalists with incorrect facts is just laughable and he is open to whatever attack comes his way. Good for Chris Wallace!

  20. LOL! Way to go Chris Wallace!

    Comment by Olivia — March 27, 2007 @ 9:40 am

  21. Chris Wallace is the man who can put Olby in his place. Glad he did it. But cable news is nothing more than a three ring circus these days. It’s the Fox effect.

    Comment by Peter — March 27, 2007 @ 9:58 am

  22. Go Chris!!!!!!!!!

    Comment by Missy — March 27, 2007 @ 10:38 am

  23. You know what would make Dobermann crap in his pants? If BOR decided what the heck, give him a 1 day ratings bump and say he’ll come on his show to debate him on whatever topics he wants to talk about. Watch Dobermann squirm like a little B and the showdown will never happen because he is a fraud, who can’t debate. All his stuff is scripted and prepared like his special comments.

  25. Comment thread: Boring.

    Comment by Arthur — March 27, 2007 @ 11:21 am

  26. Lurker, I think you’ve got your analysis 100% backwards…O’Reilly has a lot more to lose than Olbermann and therefore is less likely to do this, even if he was inclined to do so, which he’d never be.

    Comment by Spud — March 27, 2007 @ 11:28 am

  27. As usual on TVNewser, Olbermann gets to attack but the person he attacks does not get the same attention for his response.

    Comment by James — March 27, 2007 @ 11:44 am

  28. Of course… search the FNC website for the FNS transcript of the interview with Hume and… it is not there. I’m interested to see the follow-up.

    Comment by Keyser Soze — March 27, 2007 @ 11:52 am

  29. Spud, I know BOR has more to lose that’s why I say what the heck. Just give Dobermann the ratings bump and publicity and debate the guy on his Countdown show. It would never happen because he doesn’t stand a chance going up against BOR. That guy can’t debate , he’s a fraud. BOR makes Bill Maher look like a fool everytime he’s on and he will have no problem doing the same with Dobermann who is even less talented then Maher.

  30. brian stelter just posted a promotional thing for an msnbc special so he really is ignoring this. maybe he already signed a contract to go work at countdown?

    Comment by Yolanda — March 27, 2007 @ 12:26 pm

  31. Is this the same Chris Wallace who said, after “writing” his book “Character: Profiles in Presidential Courage” that he admired Grover Cleveland as an example of presidential leadership because he “went against the Constitution” and “he went against the law”? The same one?

    Comment by moi-meme — March 27, 2007 @ 1:25 pm

  32. Here they come… the blue bloggers are scouring the internet for any material they can possibly come up with to try to discredit Chris Wallace.

Hey, “moi-meme” this is the same Chris Wallace that has won every major broadcast news award for his REPORTING, something your hero Olbermann doesn’t know how to do, unless it’s from the press box of a baseball game.

He was also Chief White House correspondent for NBC News, hosted Meet the Press, and anchored the “NBC Nightly News”… three things the peacock folks would never, ever trust Olbermoron to do.

    Comment by bigred — March 27, 2007 @ 1:42 pm

  33. I noticed the contrast between KO and Wallace. When attacked with childish taunts, Wallace responds with intelligent put downs that don’t resort to 3rd grade taunts about somebody’s physical and other flaws. KO, of course, runs, hides and resorts to having blue bloggers do his work for him.

    Comment by eddiebear — March 27, 2007 @ 2:00 pm

You may go hide back under the rock you came from after bigred put you back in your place. Go on. Scurry along. You’re not hold enough to hang with the big boys.

  35. Brian stelter did not ignore this, he has posted it.

    Comment by Randy — March 27, 2007 @ 2:33 pm

  36. Yes, Stelter did post it, 3 hours after it was first pointed out here. It’s called “giving in to pressure.”

    Comment by James — March 27, 2007 @ 2:47 pm

  37. There is no one lower in life than KO. For this slimy snake to criticize Brit Hume and Chris Wallas is beyond comprehesion.
“He only opens his mouth to change feet.”

    Comment by cella — March 27, 2007 @ 3:44 pm

  38. Why cant he criticize Brit Hume?

    Comment by Randy — March 27, 2007 @ 4:26 pm

  39. Good idea Randy. Olbermann is a much greater journalist than the guy who was the top political reporter in the business for many years…and was honored by the Clinton administration for his work.

I guess since blue bloggers like you bow down to Olbermann, that’s much more important.

    Comment by bigred — March 27, 2007 @ 5:06 pm

  40. I see the FNC talking point of the day is “blue bloggers” as it’s being gratuitously parroted by their followers.

    Comment by Shaun — March 27, 2007 @ 5:29 pm

  41. I just asked why he cant criticize him? If he dosnt agree with what he says, he should be able to criticize him. Just like i defend Chris Wallace’s right to criticize Olbermann. You’d never expect to hear it from me, but I think Brit Hume is an excellent journalist. He is able to keep his incredibly massive biases out of special report, that rears its ugly head on Fox News Sunday. But even great journalists can be criticized.

    Comment by Randy — March 27, 2007 @ 5:41 pm

  42. There is no one lower in life than KO.

Good grief. Hyperbole, a little? What, he’s worse than Jeffrey Dahmer? John Wayne Gacy? because he talks some smack about your heroes?

Man, the level of sheer bile on this board is making it almost uninhabitable.

    Comment by Arthur — March 27, 2007 @ 7:43 pm

  43. Arthur… kinda like someone calling three people he disagrees with “The Worst Person In The World” night after night?

And why are you trying to live on this board?

    Comment by ImNotBlue — March 27, 2007 @ 7:58 pm

  44. Hey bigred - Olbermann did anchor the NBC Nightly News at least once in the late 1990s.

    Comment by erljr — March 27, 2007 @ 11:24 pm

  45. As for Olbermann anchoring the Nightly News during his previous stint on MSNBC, I believe it was a weekend broadcast. They’re a bit looser about those anchors.
