Blast from the past…
Shepard Smith, 1992. Via Roger Simmons who recounts a near death experience Smith had as a local reporter…
For longtime market watchers, the incident was eerily similar to what happened in 1992 to then-Channel 6 reporter Shepard Smith. Now a Fox News Channel anchor, Smith was rushed to the hospital after he was found passed out from carbon monoxide fumes inside a Channel 6 news van. Smith had been editing for about two minutes inside the aging van when he collapsed. Photographer Chris Kennedy got Smith out of the van and called for help.

That explains the brain damage.

Very nice, mike. (not to be confused with the other “M”ike).
Shep is known as quite impartial in his reporting and commentary (if any). So exactly what is your problem this time?
Comment by Missy — March 30, 2007 @ 1:14 pm
yep..explains the brain damager. I wonder if he used verbs back then?
Comment by Me — March 30, 2007 @ 1:22 pm
Missy..I was only kidd’in sorry if i got under your skin!
Comment by mike — March 30, 2007 @ 1:29 pm
Shep is more impartial than most, but he still gets in the occasional jab at the dems.

Lefties,
Give it a rest. If anyone pretends to know how Shepard Smith votes they are fooling themselves. I honestly haven’t the slightest clue. He’s about the only person on cable news I can say that about.
P.S. save the stupid “he works for Fox so he must vote R” comments.
Comment by ChrisM — March 30, 2007 @ 2:57 pm
Two minutes? Dang, that must have been a helluva leak.
Comment by Arthur — March 30, 2007 @ 3:03 pm
My guess is that he is a liberal in FOX clothing.
Comment by cella — March 30, 2007 @ 3:30 pm
I have no idea how Shep Smith votes either. But unlike you Chris M there are tons of people on cable news I have no clue about when it comes to their voting. Be interested in your analysis of who votes what. And oh Chris, to ( sort of)quote you “save the stupid he works for CNN or MSNBC so he must vote D comments.”:)
Comment by myview — March 30, 2007 @ 3:36 pm
myview,
There may be a few but in general I think I could probably give an educated guess as to how the vast majority vote. As to your final comment, good point & very amusing.
Comment by ChrisM — March 30, 2007 @ 3:58 pm
When I watch Fox I try to catch Shepard besides that nothing really draws me to fox.
Comment by Chad — March 30, 2007 @ 5:14 pm
Chad, I kind of agree, though I end up watching any number of the other hours of their coverage. If anything, kind of a freaky story considering how many have died from the same event.
Comment by Chris — March 30, 2007 @ 6:22 pm
“m”ike; sorry I overreacted. I think I got you confused with “M”ike!

To make jokes about another persons unfortunate threat to their health would put that jokester down in the same “GUTTER” with Rush Limbaugh when he did the same about Michael J. Fox!
Comment by Aunt Mary — March 31, 2007 @ 12:02 am
Aunt Mary ..Thank you for the kind words ! BTY I think Rush Limbaugh was right on about that little fraud Michael J Fox.
Comment by mike — March 31, 2007 @ 10:11 am
mike — Michael J. Fox put himself in that political fight and I did not say that Rush or anyone else did not have the right to debate the subject. However, IMO Rush crossed the line when it stopped being debate and he “JOKED” about someone’s health. You had said you were sorry so I was not necessarily talking to you. Anyway, this post hit home and I may have read more into several of the comments than the commenter truly wanted to say!

I’m glad Limbaugh said what he said. It was reminiscent of Ann Coulter’s point about the Jersey Girls. And Fox: I’m glad he made that commercial and said what he said. All fair in love and war and politics. If I was afflicted by an ilness like Fox’, I would use it to political advantage in a heartbeat.

Well, I’m just glad he’s OK and it wasn’t worse!

I love the guy! Anybody who can get arrested for hitting a fellow reporter with his car, reference a J-Lo BJ, and then bitch slap Hannity and Kristol on the air is my kinda’ anchor. Really!

I thought his Katrina coverage ran rings around AC, yet AC became a hero for his coverage. Shep was passionate and willing to call out the politicians who failed New Orleans without going into disgraceful histryonics for the camera.
Comment by eddiebear — April 1, 2007 @ 1:27 am
Eddie, I agree. I think Shep is from the effected area (maybe southern Mississippi?) and viewers could sense that his outrage was very real and personal, whereas Cooper was simply playing the role he thought he was supposed to play. Seeing Cooper “emote” is a daily occurrence, but when someone like Shep gets fired up, people pay attention.

Glad he made it….
