Bouley vs. O’Reilly…
The Huffington Post’s Charles Karel Bouley responds to Bill O’Reilly reading something he wrote on the air…
For the record, I never wrote, have written or said that I wished Tony Snow or anyone cancer or any other fatal illness. And when O’Reilly read the piece on air, he left out the part about how I wished him a speedy recovery and the support of family and friends to help navigate the waters ahead. Again, goes to fair and balanced, I suppose.

I just read that President Bush was going on with O’Reilly Mon&Tuesday Night for a sitdown interview.
Comment by mike — April 1, 2007 @ 9:47 am
I’m confused. I need to see the links to what O’Reilly ACTUALLY said, and the article this guy wrote that got O’Reilly hot.
I suppose I have to assume that this article (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/charles-karel-bouley/theres-all-types-of-canc_b_44369.html) is the one that started the whole deal. But without knowing what BO said, it’s tough to understand this guys rebuttal.
Comment by ImNotBlue — April 1, 2007 @ 10:13 am
This guy is just p*ssed that he got called on what he was saying about Snow,,also if you look at the article at the bottom it says..”Editor’s Note: Due to objectionable content, this post was edited by the author after its original version.”..it’s what he removed that was on the site for almost a day that O’Reilly nailed him on.
Comment by mlong — April 1, 2007 @ 11:02 am
Bouley is a typical media liberal. Spew pure hate, act shocked when called on it, remove content, act like it never happened and re-write history to blame someone else. C’mon Charles K.B., grow a set and be a man. Why else did you edit your article???
Comment by D.B. Cooper — April 1, 2007 @ 12:11 pm
O’reilly had the eidtor of the Huff. post on Friday to talk about this and he didn’t argue with O’reilly the content of what Bouley wrote. He agreed with BOR that those types of rantings are ridiculous. The editor also stated that Bouley removed the content himself & Michelle Malkin talked about how hard it was for her to find it after it was removed (via internet searches).
Comment by ChrisM — April 1, 2007 @ 12:52 pm
#2,
That’s not it. His original post included “I hear about Tony Snow and say to myself, well, stand up every day, lie to the American people at the behest of your dictator-esque boss and well, how could a cancer NOT grow in you.”. There was other crap in the post but I don’t remember exactly what they were.
People are going to thing that the current post is the one BOR was railing against and use that to hammer BOR. Once again these people will be misinformed.
Comment by ChrisM — April 1, 2007 @ 12:58 pm
mlong nails it. Bouley uses the sound bites of others on a regular basis. I don’t remember what exactly O’Reilly said, but I do recall him mentioning something being taken down from the Huffington Post after the HP knew their regular readers (the ones that check in several times a day) were sure to have seen it. I wouldn’t have remembered Bouley’s name if he had kept his mouth shut. Is this what he really wants to be known for? I guess so. It’s too late now.
Charles Karel Bouley: Today’s worst per… Oops!
Charles Karel Bouley: The guy who celebrates the misfortune of others; then denies his own words and blames the messenger.

now this is gonna be funny if bo is having a sit down interview with President Bush will bo grind him like he does the rest of his guests? my guess nope just bo being a but boy.
Comment by Jason — April 1, 2007 @ 1:15 pm
Jason obviously hasn’t seen O’Reilly’s previous Bush interviews.
Comment by erljr — April 1, 2007 @ 1:23 pm
Thanks everyone. Something didn’t quite add up when I first read the post… now it all makes sense. Although if their’s a Factor transcript out there, that would be great in addition.
Thanks!
Comment by ImNotBlue — April 1, 2007 @ 1:31 pm
Jason,
Very insightful comments. Great Thanks.
Comment by ChrisM — April 1, 2007 @ 1:40 pm
So why is he being allowed to post this drivel after his initial post has to be edited for objectionble content? The thing is that people will read this and think O’Reilly really did misquote him, never knowing the real deal with his original, unedited post. Unbelievable.
Comment by Alison — April 1, 2007 @ 1:41 pm
Who wants to start a pool of how long it will take Olbermann to put this go on his show so they can bitch about O’Reilly together??
Comment by Alison — April 1, 2007 @ 1:43 pm
Shouldn’t Bush talk to the pre-eminent journalist of our generation instead of O’Reilly? You ummm know ahh Anderson Cooper.
Comment by Cooperite — April 1, 2007 @ 1:59 pm
Jason …April fools! ; )
Comment by mike — April 1, 2007 @ 2:00 pm
“Cooperite”, stay on topic. Anderson Cooper and your hatred of him has NOTHING to do with this subject.
Comment by Marty — April 1, 2007 @ 4:36 pm
Mike,
Stop playing these groupies as they fools they are.
Comment by elmonica — April 1, 2007 @ 4:51 pm
El, Jason is clearly on your hate Bush side of things. Funny that you call him a groupie and a fool. This might be your best post ever!
Comment by bigred — April 1, 2007 @ 5:07 pm
And Marty, a big DIDO. These groupies have a penchant for changing the topic thread.
Comment by elmonica — April 1, 2007 @ 5:26 pm
elmonica, is there a chance you meant to use the word “ditto”?
Comment by Missy — April 1, 2007 @ 6:44 pm
Elmonica, you criticize people for changing topic threads and then you bring up Dido, the founder and first queen of Carthage? Oh wait… you were trying to use the word “ditto”… I guess you had nothing else to offer on the discussion about Bouley changing his post having been rightly called out by O’Reilly.
Comment by Caufield — April 1, 2007 @ 6:49 pm
To be fair, as Bill O’Reilly would claim he wants things to be, I’d like him to do a follow-up story on the radical views that are apparent on many right wing blogs. I saw the interview he did with Michelle Malkin and the guy from the Huffington Post, and aside from the blog in question he also cherry-picked a comment from an anonymous reader as proof of how terrible the left wing has become. Well, he should check out some right wing blogs and message boards. I’ve heard him say in the past that his staff has done so and couldn’t find anything….well, his staff is either incompetent or looked around for about one minute or so.
I’m not saying that O’Reilly is wrong in that this type of vitriol is bad…of course it is. But it goes both ways - the right wing is just as guilty and if he was honest about it he could do a whole segment about it on his show. That is, of course, if he wants his show to be the “no spin zone” and the “fair and balanced” presentation he claims he strives for.
Comment by FishOil — April 1, 2007 @ 6:56 pm
“Ditto” would have been more refined. But I chose to confuse you uptight cats. See #3

Comment by elmonica — April 1, 2007 @ 7:07 pm
You’re wrong FishOil. If the right was spewing hate speech like this, it would be all over the MSM. It’s just not happening.
Comment by erljr — April 1, 2007 @ 7:37 pm
El
Seriously, why are you even here? You contribute NOTHING to this site other than your constant bickering with everyone who disagrees with you. At least the others who are not conservative, provide some sort of intelligent banter and information.
Go waste your time somewhere else.
Comment by jerziegrl — April 1, 2007 @ 8:09 pm
erljr, can you honestly say that with a straight face? There are dispicable, vile comments all over the net from both sides.
Comment by myview — April 1, 2007 @ 8:13 pm
oh, yeah, and about DIDO…..the urban dictionary is about as reliable as Wikipedia.
Comment by jerziegrl — April 1, 2007 @ 8:13 pm
I don’t doubt you would like to see the same level of balance you are accustomed to do watching FNC, with a board dominated by conservatives and a few token liberals who don’t offend your sensibilities
Tell you what Jerzeygirl. Why don’t you ask the blog’s editor to ban me so that it can be exclusively (or primarily) a Fox Fan blog site. I respect Spud’s impartiality enough to go elsewhere if he asks.
Comment by elmonica — April 1, 2007 @ 8:20 pm
myview - Hate speech on the net - both left wing and right wing - is being covered on cable news. But the last death wish from a right winger was from Pat Robertson a couple years ago. And it wasn’t an internet thing. If you know of more, where is your evidence? Give us a link. O’Reilly did.
Comment by erljr — April 1, 2007 @ 8:23 pm
I hope Spud got a : ) from the April fools joke .
Comment by mike — April 1, 2007 @ 9:06 pm
I wasn’t talking about death wishes but just the hate speech from both sides.I can’t speak for Fish Oil but that’s what I was presuming he/she was referring to also.
Comment by myview — April 1, 2007 @ 9:06 pm
#31 - Thanks for clarifying what I was saying, myview.
O’Reilly was taking issue with the blogger who made some vile comments about Tony Snow’s health condition, but then he moved on to one or two “comments” that were left on the Huffington Post. As the guest correctly pointed out, they get hundreds of thousands of “comments” from anonymous sources. You can expect to have a few irrational ones from irrational people. What O’Reilly implied, however, is that this is the norm rather than the aberration that it is.
And again, he fails to point out this kind of crap on the right. If he wants to be “fair and balanced,” he could easily do a segment on vitriol coming from the right (on the internet, that is).
erljr - you asked for a link? Check out freerepublic.com.
Want another one? Go to Sean Hannity’s website (seanhannity.com) and peruse his message board.
I’m not taking sides here - O’Reilly makes a valid point, but in my opinion his argument loses credibility when he confines it to one side.
Comment by FishOil — April 1, 2007 @ 9:36 pm
This string is about Bouley’s wish that Tony Snow die quickly from his cancer.
“I hear about Tony Snow and say to myself, well, stand up every day, lie to the American people at the behest of your dictator-esque boss and well, how could a cancer NOT grow in you.”
Your websites do not check out FishOil. If this was just about ideologues yelling at each other, I would never have commented. Actually Spud would never had posted the thing. And O’Reilly would never have done a segment on it.
If you’re angry because others don’t subscribe to your worldview, join the club.
Comment by erljr — April 1, 2007 @ 10:16 pm
I agree with you Earl!! At least to a point.
At this moment in time, it wouldn’t surprise me that there are more angry left wingers making “hate speech” on blogs than right wingers. That is a function, in part, of having a President who many believe lied his ass off to take the U.S. to war, and who now flips off the public (metaphorically) with his desire to have a bold legacy.
However, if the public elects another Democratic President who receives sex acts from interns, and is caught, then I think the hate will rise to the same levels over at Freepers.com and other conservative websites.
While I don’t equate blowjobs to war, to each his own.
Comment by elmonica — April 1, 2007 @ 10:39 pm
Did he say he wished that Tony Snow dies quickly from cancer.I’m not trying to argue with you but haven’t read the entire comment since it was taken down.
FWIW, I think Bouley’s comments were horrible and I’m not defending him.
Also FWIW, I think the comments about O’Reilly and his opinion about how only the left go too far fits in quite nicely on this thread. And hey if it doesn’t, certainly wouldn’t be the first time a thread has gone off track.
Comment by myview — April 1, 2007 @ 10:45 pm
What was it Bart Simpson said?
“I didn’t do it. But if I did, no one saw me do it.”
Bouley, you did it and we saw you. Your vile comments were posted for eight hours.
Crawl back under your rock, you creep.
Comment by cella — April 1, 2007 @ 10:58 pm
Fishoil & myview: Please show me a specific comment on any conservative website/blog where anybody said similar vile things about Elizabeth Edwards. Thanks.
fishoil: BTW, I am a former O’Reilly premium member. The message boards have a fair number of loons and people who make-up their own facts but I never, ever read any equivalent to the Tony Snow “I Hope He Dies” posts.
Comment by Ira — April 2, 2007 @ 12:10 am
I think anyone who goes online and posts messages about why Tony Snow deserves to have cancer needs to look themselves in the mirror and seriously reconsider their life values.
Comment by Cory — April 2, 2007 @ 12:35 am
nobody is going to post something about elizabeth edwards, because she isnt really in the public eye. Im sure if the John Edwards was the one with the cancer, there would be a bunch of irrational right wingers posting about how they wouldnt mind if he died.
Comment by Randy — April 2, 2007 @ 3:29 am
erljr - I’m not taking issue with people not subscribing to my worldview. What I AM taking issue with is Bill O’Reilly’s lack of “fair and balanced” coverage on this issue. Even you are taking what Bouley originally said out of context. He was making a vile, stupid assertion as to how Tony Snow got the cancer - he never said he hoped he would die soon from it. Don’t spread disinformation.
My websites don’t check out, eh? You obviously didn’t read enough. I’ll do your homework for you and give you an example of right-wing vitriol.
Now, keep in mind that during the segment on the show that O’Reilly cherry-picked a commment from the Huffington Post after the Bouley blog. If you saw the show you’d remember that he held it up and the guest quickly pointed out it was an anonymous comment. Funny how O’Reilly has said that he doesn’t find the same kind of vile crap on right-wing websites.
So, would he (or you) consider a person saying that they hope the Speaker of the House is taken hostage while visiting Syria as “vile?” Here’s your proof:
http://www.hannity.com/forum/showthread.php?t=245287
Just to note - I had the website address for Sean Hannity’s board wrong. It’s hannity.com, not seanhannity.com.
In any event, my point is that this type of nonsense comes from both the right and the left. I watch O’Reilly’s show and listen to his radio show now and then….I’m not ripping this from a left-wing website. I have no problem with taking issue with the type of crap that Bouley originally said. I do have a problem with people that blindly say that right wing websites are immune from this type of stuff because it’s just not true.
Comment by FishOil — April 2, 2007 @ 3:38 am
fishoil: Basically a good post although I’ll bet you do not pay $50 annually to be a Hannity Premium Member! :)
Comment by Ira — April 2, 2007 @ 11:59 am
Ira - You don’t have to be a premium member to have access to his message board - which I would say would lead to a higher rate of whacky comments such as the one I linked to.
As for my political beliefs, I’ve lost faith in both parties. I believe they are in it for themselves and seek to maintain their own power first and will only serve their constituents in an honest way when they feel their tenure is in jeopardy. But that’s just me.
However, like many others here I’m a cable news junkie. If only they would come out with a pill to combat this terrible addiction. :)
Comment by FishOil — April 2, 2007 @ 2:04 pm
Thanks for the Hannity link FishOil. I agree that a reporter who posts and a commenter who comments are two different things and should be treated as such.
O’Reilly said his site has filters to stop hate speech and has staff to monitor the site 24/7. I never go to his site, so I don’t know if that’s true or not. I know blogsome has some filters, so it seems plausable to me.
Anyhow, I had an objection to what Bauley said:
“I hear about Tony Snow and say to myself, well, stand up every day, lie to the American people at the behest of your dictator-esque boss and well, how could a cancer NOT grow in you.”
I don’t have an issue with what a non-reporter said in a comment. I would have an issue with it if a site as big as Huffington Post didn’t take down any hate speech comments within a few hours. I have no idea how long the comments stayed on the site.
Comment by erljr — April 2, 2007 @ 7:44 pm
Does anyone have a link to the section of O’Reilly’s site he mentioned the other night that has filters to keep hate speech out? I’ve checked out his official site and haven’t been able to find it.
Comment by myview — April 2, 2007 @ 8:34 pm
erljr & myview: There definitely are filters on the O’Reilly message boards.
Comment by Ira — April 2, 2007 @ 10:54 pm
Ira,are these message boards you mention about O’Reilly or his site he mentioned the other night.
Comment by myview — April 2, 2007 @ 11:11 pm
myview: I believe so. But you must be an O’Reilly Premium Member to access the message boards.
Comment by Ira — April 3, 2007 @ 12:08 pm
Thanks Ira. Guess that’s why I couldn’t find it.
Comment by myview — April 3, 2007 @ 12:11 pm
I wouldnt put it past some of the people here to make such hateful and meanspirited comments if tomorrow KO said he had cancer. I was reading some old posts from here, and there were many people who thought it was hilarious and deserving that KO had his anthrax scare (much like the NY Post). So I could easily see some of the scum that post here, as well as the NY post, not being such great people if KO got cancer.
Comment by Randy — April 3, 2007 @ 1:58 pm
Randy, I believe what you saw was people laughing at the idea KO had an anthrax scare… AFTER finding out that it was soap… and AFTER hearing him talk about how bogus terrorist threats are. I haven’t anyone wish him personal harm… but to see read about him freaking out, when at the same time he preaches that these threats are “made up” by the Bush administration to scare the public… well, it seems pretty hypocritical to some of us.
