More calls for Imus’ firing…
The Huffington Post’s Stacey Parker Aab thinks Imus should be out of a job…
It is not OK to sit like a coward in one’s studio and speak such poison into the airwaves. I hope, for a moment, Imus might take a moment to sit with the fact that he is in the wrong here, and then take another moment to put himself in these womens’ impressively-hard-to-fill shoes.
So, I’m afraid to say that I still don’t have an explanation for my mom as to why Imus still has a job. Other than the one we already know: in America, no one gets fired for hurting and disparaging black women. Ever.
Thank you, Gregory Lee and the National Association of Black Journalists and all others who have spoken out against Mr. Imus, and have demanded his dismissal. An apology was a start. But it can’t be the end.

After thay get Imus off the radio how about we burn all the books we don’t like ? The man made his bed own bed make him sleep with the REV Al for the rest of his radio career.

I think you are (willfully?) missing the point, which is that there are usually NO consequences to the kind of trash Imus spouts. Nor do I expect there will be lasting consequences of this either. Because it’s true: “In America, no one gets fired for hurting and disparaging black women. Ever.”

Bye-Bye Imus!
Authur, I have two words for you. Bob Grant. So don’t say ever. Though in fairness that was against a black man.
And just a thought. Should a lot of rappers today be thrown off the air today for making ‘hurting and disparaging remarks against black women’ on their songs?

Arthur..You are just to thick for words!

Hey Puck you hit the nail on the head..since most of the people who make disparaging remarks against black women in the media are black rappers then of course no one get’s fired..theres no Al Sharpton protest at any radio or tv stations that broadcast rap music..it’s part of the PC bs that we are forced to put up.

“It is not OK to sit like a coward in one’s studio and speak such poison into the airwaves.” I agree. Yet when other losers on MSNBC spout omments like “monkey” at a Jew and “fat-a*&”, that’s ok and brave?

What a bunch of thin skinned, humorless, dimwitted, high and mighty, wusses who can’t recognize cynical satire for what it is when they see or hear it. Don Imus became a success by saying stuff like that his entire “Talk Radio” career. A popular success, is he. One doesn’t get that way by NOT giving the majority what they want. Therfore, to the MINORITIES I say, “Tune the (bleep) Out” and go “BLING” shopping.

The real problem is that his radio show should never have been broadcast on MSNBC, which purports to be a 24 hour news station, while for the past 35 years Don Imus has been doing a comedy show, albeit a comedy news show akin to the Daily Show.
Imus’ comment was insulting but no more insulting than he is to his own wife, who he refers to as the “Green Hoe.” Describing the Rutgers women as “nappy-head” is a fairly accurate description of many black women. They may not like being “nappy-headed” but that’s the way black women’s hair happens to be. It’s a shame they aren’t comfortable enough with that fact to accept it being stated.
This whole controversy comes down to economics. MSNBC loved his show as little as a few weeks ago, when they added an additional half hour to his time slot, but once the advertizers, cowed by the hypocritical likes of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, made it a racial issue, the die was cast and Imus was going down.
While not my cup of tea, Don Imus was an equal opportunity offender in the long tradition of Don Rickles, Jack E. Leonard and to some extent most stand ups working today. CBS and MSNBC have proven once again that they are gutless money whores. They used Don Imus when it suited them and now they have tossed him aside because he can no longer fill their pockets. Meanwhile Don Imus has raised more money for SIDS, children with cancer, injured veterans and the like than either CBS or NBC have ever given to any cause.
