  1. So, is it smart business to keep Imus or not? Advertisers have left, but his numbers yesterday were huge.

Another good day for Scarborough, and with Joe there. Grace’s numbers in the demo are not surprising, but they are surprisingly low in the total viewers. I was expecting around 900,000 because of ANS. It will be interesting to see how she does this week because it is huge for her. FIrst the ANS announcement and now the Duke Rape Case news.

  2. I think it will be interesting to see how his numbers are when/if he comes back.

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 5:23 pm

  3. I believe Media Matters reported that Imus will return just in time for Spring sweeps. Knowing the numbers will be high, it will ba a shame to see MS-NBC profit from this. But with advertisers dropping at such a quick rate, I have a feeling he will not be back.

  4. I’m going to go out on a limb and predict Imus won’t be back. I predict he will discover that he needs to spend more time with his family, or on a spiritual journey for healing or something; he’ll be back in a year with a new book about how he’s a changed man.

    Comment by Arthur — April 11, 2007 @ 5:35 pm

  5. He’ll go to rehab, if there is one that can fix dumb.

    Comment by Sheryn — April 11, 2007 @ 5:42 pm

  6. Imus is doing great. Why will MSNBC get him out for 2 weeks with the ratings are going up.

    Comment by Devin — April 11, 2007 @ 5:47 pm

  7. It’s not up to MSNBC, it’s up to the advertisers ( and CBS, of course ) And then there’s the surge of all the people vowing not to ever appear again. Looks bad for the I-Man !!

    Comment by Jim — April 11, 2007 @ 5:52 pm

  8. Here is the interesting thing. I think the the advertisers are going to leave. BUT, i think when he would be slated to come back, his ratings would be higher. I think yes people would leave, but there would still be the level of interest in what Imus has to say raising even higher. Though I think Imus will not make it through the week. So many of his advertisers are leaving and I think both CBS radio and MSNBC will have no choice but to fire him, even if they do not believe him being fired is a just punishment for his actions.

  9. According to TVN the simulcast is going to receive a large BOOT tonight or tomorrow!

    Comment by Terance — April 11, 2007 @ 6:01 pm

  10. If what TVN reports is true, Im disappointed, however I really cant blame MSNBC for the decision.

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 6:08 pm

  11. Imus is officially fired. Tucker just broke in his repeat to report on this.

    According to MSNBC’s homepage… Randy’s right… Imus in the morning is gone…

Make way for “To Catch A Predator: Bagels and Coffee Edition”

    Comment by ImNotBlue — April 11, 2007 @ 6:36 pm

  13. Obviously MSNBC has an advantage because they have the story first, but I’m surprised the other networks haven’t gotten and reported this yet.

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 6:39 pm

  14. Yep… I have and AP news alert about it… Imus is fired now:
MSNBC will no longer simulcast the “Imus in the Morning”

    Comment by Rodrigo — April 11, 2007 @ 6:39 pm

  15. Dan Abrams will certainly be blaming FNC for this unfortunate turn of events.

    Comment by Jim — April 11, 2007 @ 6:40 pm

  16. CBS hasnt fired him so he is still on the radio, just not on MSNBC. I do believe though that CBS will fire him as well.

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 6:41 pm

  17. I’m still hoping for the early morning LOCKUP. But, seriously, it’ll be interesting to see what they do long-term. I know they were supposed to run news for the two week suspension. But, I’ve always heard they didn’t want to run news against The Today Show…

    Comment by Terance — April 11, 2007 @ 6:44 pm

  18. Have other networks reported on this yet?

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 6:49 pm

  19. MSNBC needs more Live News… Its a news channel. Was boring to watch a crappy guy live on MSNBC talking about nothing.

    Comment by Rodrigo — April 11, 2007 @ 6:50 pm

  20. MSNBC needs a lot of change, including no repeats of Tucker and Hardball, a Morning show, and one less documentary.

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 6:53 pm

  21. I think Imus will not survive to CBS. Check.

AP: Bruce Gordon, former head of the NAACP and a director of CBS Corp., said Wednesday he hoped the broadcasting company would “make the smart decision” by firing Imus.

“He’s crossed the line, he’s violated our community,” Gordon said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “He needs to face the consequence of that violation.”

    Comment by Rodrigo — April 11, 2007 @ 6:53 pm

  22. With Imus gone it may be difficult to determine if the changes to AM make a difference ratings wise or not.But of course the ones who like the changes will decide any rise in ratings is due to Jr and KC and the ones who don’t necessarily like this duo will say any ratings rise is because Imus is gone.

    Comment by myview — April 11, 2007 @ 6:54 pm

  23. Imus is gone! Thank You MSNBC! Thank You Steve Capus! Hopefully CBS will do the same.

    Comment by Noelle — April 11, 2007 @ 7:13 pm

  24. I welcome I-MAN viewers to Fox N Friends.

    Comment by Lurker — April 11, 2007 @ 7:30 pm

  25. Another humiliating THIRD place out of FIVE performance for the Countdown hostess. Had the Deal or No Deal rerun not been moved out of Olbermann’s time period, Olbermann would have been in his traditional FOURTH place out of FIVE.

    Comment by Tom — April 11, 2007 @ 7:32 pm

  26. Nah, Lurker… FNC doesn’t need him. They’ve already got the numbers… what do they really stand to gain?

    Comment by ImNotBlue — April 11, 2007 @ 7:36 pm

  27. INB - Total destruction of American Morning =)

Let’s widen the gap even more

    Comment by Lurker — April 11, 2007 @ 7:39 pm

  28. Tom, its not total humiliation. Nice caps btw, it was SOOO necessary.

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 7:55 pm

  29. Oh and Tom, can you find me information that suggests that Olbermann’s USUAL spot is fourth? Id love to see your evidence that he USUSALLY finishes in fourth out of five.

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 7:57 pm

  30. How is it HLN beats CNN in the primetime demo, when if one take take a look at the demo numbers, CNN beats HLN in the demo in all but just one timeslot in primetime.

    Comment by Sam — April 11, 2007 @ 8:18 pm

  31. Sam, I believe that is because primetime is considered only from 8-11. And when you average the 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm hours together, HLN wins.

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 8:30 pm

  32. Randy- I agree with you that MSNBC needs a lot of changes! I wonder if MSNBC is going to continue to blame John Gibson of Fox News for the Imus situation

    Comment by Chet — April 11, 2007 @ 9:01 pm

  33. Rodrigo: Wouldn’t it have been nice if you could live in a country that showed Imus in its entirety rather than relying on You Tube?

    Comment by Ira — April 11, 2007 @ 9:23 pm

  34. Chet, Dan Abrams did NOT blame FNC for the Imus mess.

    Comment by myview — April 11, 2007 @ 9:54 pm

  38. Dan abrams did not blame Fox, but instead they were being hypocritical for the way they covered it.

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 11:28 pm

  39. “Last night on MSNBC the general manager of that operation, Dan Abrams, was guest hosting one of their shows and was dealing with the Imus dustup. Amazingly, Abrams blamed FOX for his Imus problem.”
He sure did blame Fox, I listened to it.. Gibson was the first one to report this story, when the mainstream media let it go at the beginning, because MSNBC is a liberal network

    Comment by Chet — April 11, 2007 @ 11:34 pm

  40. Im gonna lift my boycott of you for one more comment. Your quote is Gibson’s. Are you kidding me?

    Comment by Randy — April 11, 2007 @ 11:53 pm

  41. I just told you that I listened to Abrams full statement on it.. Do you have a serious problem of not reading what I say? You repeatedly lied about things I wrote on Monday’s Ratings.

    Comment by Chet — April 12, 2007 @ 12:02 am

  42. I wonder if Imus will get rid of the guy he hired to do the “n-word” jokes, Bernard McGuirk. If I were CBS, I would make that a condition of continued employment. McGuirk, like Rosenberg (before being banned for life only to be brought back on the day of the incident) has said some horrible crap over the years.

    Comment by Keyser Soze — April 12, 2007 @ 12:34 am

  43. C’mon Chet you’re dodging. What did Abrams say that makes you think that he’s blaming Fox? This is easy, the video’s available at YouTube and at Scarborough’s home page and it’s only 7 minutes long.

    Comment by Steve — April 12, 2007 @ 12:51 am

  44. Chet: I am telling the truth.

    Comment by myview — April 12, 2007 @ 9:28 am

  45. Dodging what.. I just told you now for the 4th time, I listened to Abrams, and he’s dragging Fox News into this mess.. Abrams knew Imus has said these types of comments for 40 years and still had him on his channel…
Not sure what you’re asking me

    Comment by Chet — April 12, 2007 @ 11:05 am

    Comment by Chet

Chet, now you say Abrams is dragging FNC into this mess. That is different than what you said last night in above quote. The fact you said Abrams was BLAMING Gibson and FNC for the mess is what I was correcting you on.

    Comment by myview — April 12, 2007 @ 11:14 am

  48. So you’re saying I should have written ‘dragging’ intead of ‘blaming’… Who the hell cares?
