Thanks Aunt Mary for the kind words. We may not always agree, but your cool. BTW, this is the sixth time I believe I have tried to post this, but for some reason, the other five didnt work. So I would have posted this a couple days ago.

So Noelle. What do you think about me?

eddiebear -- I think you are correct when you say that Olbermann has often touted the demo, he has even used it to say he beat O'Reilly for 15 minutes. I was not trying to get in the middle of your actual debate. I was just pointing out that Randy is thoughtful and reasonable, therefore does not fall in to the loon group. LOL

Maybe so. But I have found it amazing that all a sudden, many of the Olby-lovers (is that better?), including Olby himself have touted the demo. Randy is the first KO fan (is that better as well?) to demote the demo. And while Stelter has pushed the demo, so have other outlets like Rolling Stone and The Daily Show.

That is why I have pointed out what caught my attention with Randy.

eddiebear -- I think you are wrong to imply that Randy exhibits the Olbyloon mentality. Olby-Olbermann, Loon-a crazy or simple minded person. While that discribes Olbermann it does not at all apply to Randy. He is left but "NOT" unreasonably left. He gives his comments from his point of view, as we all do, however his comments have excellent thought content and contribute to our healthy debate.

Mr. A, this is how the conversation you blindly jumped into started...

"Scarborough was great, but I sure wish he would dump all that Idol junk.

MSNBC is trying to piggyback off American Idol’s success. Olbermann tries to use segments on the show for a ratings boost all the time.

Someone else pointed to Scarborough doing Idol segments... Olbermann does them as well... They both work for MSNBC.

You do the math.

Is that a real term? SLUMPY... never heard that one before. And out of curiousity (because I never even discussed anything like that in any of my tv or journalism classes) what was the topic at hand? I'm interested, and would like to know more.

Eddiebear, not EVERYBODY here is Brian Stelter. HE was the one that said that the demo was the most important thing. I have never said that. If you look back, I always say that both are important. Second, I dont think I have ever heard KO say anything at all about Paula Zahn, so I do not know what you are talking about in that regard.

To answer a question, I personally do not watch American Idol because it is simply a bad and annoying show. I still watch other Fox shows and have in the past such as 24 and Family Guy.

Blue, We KO fans, as well as those on MSNBC Im sure have conceded first place to BOR. We dont know why so many people watch his show, but they do, and we have to live with that. So because of that, it is a fight for 2nd. That is still important because of the type of viewer that advertisers love. It is called the SLUMPY, or Socially Liberal Urban-Minded Professional (learned this in my tv class last semester). Which is where KO comes in, because those are his viewers.

Why do you think that KO fans don't watch Idol? Do you think he gets them to hate FOX so much that they won't watch?

And just because he comes in second, it's not always something to brag about! If you come in second by a whole heck of a lot, how proud can you really be? It's like going to the Super Bowl, and getting blown out by the other team. Yeah you can be happy you got to the game, but how much bragging goes on afterwards. As Seinfeld says, "Second place, is just the first place of all the losers."

Your originally referred only to Olbermann and not MSNBC overall, and you know that. Unable to bash his ratings performance (he finished 2nd overall) you decided to take a random potshot at his coverage of American Idol - which lasts about oooh, 3 minutes? I highly doubt the same people watch Olbermann and American Idol anyway. Once again, as Shaun put it, your comment was ridiculous.

Did I say it was wrong to cover American Idol? No. I said MSNBC was doing segments on Idol to boost their own ratings. Which is true of them & countless other media outlets.

It's funny how you KO lovers get so defensive when someone brings him up. In your world, Olbermann can never be criticized for anything because he feeds your Bush hatred.

In the real world, MSNBC does segments about a very successful FOX show to boost their own ratings. If I ran the channel I probably would too.

Randy:

Once again, you exhibit the Olbyloon mentality. Now that he is 3rd in the demo that I was told was the be all and end all, it no longer matters. Now, it's total viewers? But I thought the demo was the most important. What's next, DVR and YouTube?

Also, since KO lost to a woman, I am surprised he and his fan haven't started up with some of the nasty bile they throw at her on a daily basis.

Shaun, then explain to me why Olbermann repeatedly does segments about the most popular show on television. Nowhere did I say they were serious segments...it's a live karaoke show. There's nothing serious about it. Why else would he keep doing segments on it other than to grab ratings? He's already shown he will say anything about anyone (as long as their not a Democrat) to get ratings.

I'm utterly ridiculous? You're an Olbermann worshipper. Case closed.

The demo numbers for MSNBC are interesting -- Tucker had a higher demo than Hardball and Scarborough had a higher demo than Countdown.

Shaun, in television news, they often save stories for the end, to keep people watching all the way through. That's why they start teasing the show at the begining. If people want to see the story, they'll stay tuned until it shows up.

Sorry, but the increase in ratings--on every cable news show, last night--has nothing to do with Malkin and everything to do with DON IMUS. If O'Reilly had hosted, the numbers would probably be even higher. There was a significant percentage increase on every show b/c the Imus story was controversial, he was fired, and people were angry. They wanted to feed that by watching cable news talk, not a specific substitute host.

In response to Tom. The illogical logic of the Olbermann haters is hillarious. If this was a 'humiliating' night for Olbermann, than it must also have been a humiliating night for everybody else as well. As for 'finally' beating Nancy Grace, does Tom even realize how ridiculous that sounds?

Randy: Agree, a good night for Scarborough Country but LKL and H&C also had solid nights.

As we have discussed before, when we get into the May sweeps and Grey's Anatomy and CSI are both first-run, you'll see a significant drop in the 9pm numbers.

Another humiliating night for Olbermann. Destroyed by the O'Malkin Factor and beaten by Paula Zahn in the critical, key, much loved, all-important demo. On the bright side for Olbermann, he finally beat Nancy Grace.

Sam: What happened is that there was no new "Grey's Anatomy" at 9pm and overall except for a new CSI, not much on broadcast TV to decrease cable numbers.

MSNBC is trying to piggyback off American Idol’s success. Olbermann tries to use segments on the show for a ratings boost all the time.

Okay bigred. You are so ridiculous sometimes. If he does an American Idol story, it's the last one and he's typically rolling his eyes and laughing at the show. He's certainly not leading off with it nor does he treat it seriously. If he wanted to "boost ratings" as you so intelligently put it, wouldn't he put it earlier in the hour? Again, your statement is utterly ridiculous.

I think the IMUS stuff is spiking all the numbers on all the shows. Scarborough was great, but I sure wish he would dump all that Idol junk.

god knows i cant stand malkin, but those numbers dont lie. 2.5 mil for a substitute anchor? usually his numbers drop to about 1.5 mil when he's away. definitely impressive, but maybe not since numbers seem up across the board last night for everyone. paula over 800K? scarborough over 700K? and what the hell was msnbc airing from 10-12 to get those demos?!
