  1. This ought to be interesting. Sanchez is Cuban-American. I’m not sure if he was born in Cuba or the U.S. but I’m sure that this is an issue near to his heart.

  2. Why is a ‘news’ anchor debating anyone? Sanchez should read the teleprompter and keep his opinion to himself.

  3. The weird thing, Steve, is they’re both anchors. I’m trying to picture the Great Cronkite/Koppel debates… failing…

  4. Passion worn on the sleeve is the emerging anchor template at all-news channels. Shep Smith is the archetype.

  5. Alison — Sanchez was born in Cuba. He mentioned one time he didn’t speak english when he first arrived in America as a child.

  7. I still can’t believe how people can sit there on TV and justify breaking the law. God only knows what Sanchez will say to rationalize this behavior.

  8. Missy your assuming sanchez is coming on the debate to glorify Illegal Immigration. America’s imigration is far more complex than simple wrong and right, its a serious problem that needs logical and well thought out responses.

  9. Lou Dobbs is a bigot & is too stupid to know it. He continuosly insults EVERYONE who posseses even a drop of Spanish blood or maybe has children or relatives with Spanish blood including Americans whose families came to America in 1590’s BEFORE the British.

  10. From what I have seen, it was a debate regarding a person’s right to speak their native language (immigrant or not). They were discussing the Salvation Army lawsuit….as a Native American, from a tribe with 5 fluent speakers left (due to gov’t policy to abolish our identity)I am glad to see this issue brought out into the open, for once. Tribal people around the world are desperately trying to bring their languages back, after generations of forced adherance to to the “dominant” language. The fact that these are immigrants is a side issue. I am anxious to see how this is articulated….

  11. I came to the United States as an immigrant (LEGALLY), I had to wait for 3.5 years for my documentation to arrive, it did, I cannot see why we allow ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS in the first place. I truly believe that this nation is a blessing for Immigrants such as myself, I cannot justify breaking laws for immigration. As far as Cuba goes, I have been there, lived there and I see no reason for anybody to fear Castro or its government on a emminent basis, yes there is Economic hardship but there is plenty of freedom to work your way up. I have seen it done through others I met who eventually settled in Canada and or the United States so there is no reason to give special status to Cubans for Immigration basis. By allowing illegals and law breakers immigration status, honest and lawful persons planning on immigrating to the United States like myself maybe waiting for 7-10 years rather than the 3.5 years I waited. DONT ALLOW IT!

  12. Steve (comment #2)you sound like an idiot by suggesting that any American (or anyone, for that matter) doesn’t have the right to debate an issue that they believe is unjust, regardless of their profession or anything else that other people define them as. Sanchez did a remarkable job.
