CNN’s “Immigration Day” coverage…

CNN announced its “Immigration Day” coverage plans this afternoon…

With special reports, live coverage and the latest “Broker Borders” town hall hosted by CNN anchor Lou Dobbs, CNN will cover all the angles of the second anniversary of the Immigration Day events and protests around the country.

CNN’s “Immigration Day 2007” coverage will put a face on the national immigration debate with live reports from special correspondent Soledad O’Brien from Chicago starting at 9 a.m. (ET) along with coverage from New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., Phoenix, and other cities and locations where the impact is both national and local. With live reports on events and special in-depth interviews with the individuals affected, CNN will report and investigate all aspects of this important issue.

On Wednesday, May 2, Dobbs will host a live “Broken Borders” town hall meeting in Hazleton, Pa., a city at the center of the immigration reform debate because of its Illegal Immigration Relief Act. Dobbs will examine the effects of the law and lead a dialogue in front of a live audience with experts and guests including Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta; Robert Rector, a senior research fellow with the Heritage Foundation; T.J. Bonner, president of the National Border Patrol Council and John Trasvina, president of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund among others. Dobbs will anchor Lou Dobbs Tonight at 6 p.m. from Hazleton followed by the town hall at 8 p.m.

The network’s Tuesday, May 1, coverage will include:

American Morning anchors Kiran Chetry and John Roberts will discuss the impact on the children of illegal immigrants and the fallout from recent deportation raids. The program also takes a look back on changes in immigration policy over the past year and violence associated with the smuggling trade. American Morning airs from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.;

Paula Zahn Now correspondents will cover the effect on federal immigration statutes at the local level and how, in some cases, sheriffs are assisting in the deportation process. Also, the program examines the debate over a pizza chain in several Southwest states accepting pesos for payment. Paula Zahn Now airs from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Anderson Cooper 360º will report on the battle on the airways for political action, particularly on Los Angeles radio DJ Eddie Sotelo’s role with last year’s Immigration Day and his message for this year. The program also provides an in-depth look at several immigration raids across the country and how is dismembers families, forcing some children into the foster care system. Anderson Cooper 360º airs from 10 p.m. to midnight.

  1. One of the demonstrators who was hit by a rubber bullet said that “..all he wanted to do was peacefully DEMAND amnesty..”. WHAT? Then he said the USA was like a police state! Again, WHAT? If he’s here illegaly, he’s not supposed to be here. Oh and for those that think there should not be any borders, get a life! The children wll suffer because of the stupid decisions made by their parents. No one that I know is against legal immigration. Seems to me the demonstration should have been held in Mexico. What’s that? Mexico is a police state?

    Hey illegals, get in line
