Monday’s Numbers…
I don’t know what MSNBC is going to do with the Imus timeslot but whatever it is it better do it soon. Stephanie Miller scratched in the Demo yesterday. MSNBC came in behind HLN in the Total Day Demo. Anderson Cooper 360 beat On The Record in the Demo. 360 in fact had the highest Demo number in primetime.

She scratched in the demo? Well I guess I wasn’t alone in not liking her!

I think we safely say that Mr. Olbermann is solidly second more times than not. Although he seems to be leveling off in the 500’s, his special comment night was only in the 500’s. Unless you like O’Reilly or there is a serious breaking news story, people seem to tune into Countdown over Paula.
Comment by Obama in 08! — May 1, 2007 @ 6:38 pm
Greta deserves to be last in the numbers race.
Her sucking up interviews with that horrible “Prince” was disgusting. She has hit rock bottom with this stuff.
Comment by cella — May 1, 2007 @ 6:45 pm
i have been hearing that Stephanie Miller was just filling in and isnt trying out for the job. Any truth to that Spud?
Comment by Randy — May 1, 2007 @ 6:45 pm
Well, with over 200 fawning articles about Keith O, and dozens of articles slamming BO over the past couple years, I would say the margin is about right.
Comment by Jim — May 1, 2007 @ 6:47 pm
And Obama 08, numbers still seem to be down, especially at 8pm. There is no reason even with a subhost that O’Reilly should be below 1.9 million and less than 300,000 in the demo. Paula Zahn and Nancy Grace are both down in viewers and the demo, and Countdown is down in viewers. All those numbers are down for one reason or another for which I have no clue.
Comment by Randy — May 1, 2007 @ 6:48 pm
Interesting rebound for AC360 after Thursday and Friday’s low demo and viewer numbers.
Comment by Marty — May 1, 2007 @ 7:01 pm
I think (and this is just a guess) but the numbers are down because it’s getting nice out… and people are perhaps spending some more time outside, instead of inside watching the tube.
Comment by ImNotBlue — May 1, 2007 @ 7:04 pm
Right on, Cella!
Comment by Terance — May 1, 2007 @ 7:10 pm
Marty, Anderson was off Friday; last night he was on a roll. Best mix of hard and ‘fluffy’ news (think: DC Madam) they’ve presented in a long time.
Comment by Arthur — May 1, 2007 @ 7:11 pm
#8: Think you guessed correctly plus in this household we’re busy watching playoffs( hockey and basketball)
Comment by myview — May 1, 2007 @ 7:12 pm
Does anyone have any thoughts about where Imus may turn up? If at all? I sure do miss him. MSNBC is AWFUL!
Comment by cas — May 1, 2007 @ 7:21 pm
#11 you are right on. I am a faithful AC/360 viewer and last nights show was great but Anderson had to share me with my beloved Detroit Red Wings playing in the 2nd round of the playoffs,
Comment by Judy Stage — May 1, 2007 @ 7:24 pm
Arthur, I agree, Anderson and Jeff Toobin were a blast covering the madam story. And of course, there was Michael Ware, “telling like it is” on Iraq, as AC said. Good show.
Comment by Marty — May 1, 2007 @ 7:25 pm
I think the news hangover is still lingering, as numbers are down across the board.
Comment by Edward Schatz — May 1, 2007 @ 7:25 pm
I don’t know what Miller is supposed to be doing. Trying out? Filling in? Does it matter? It doesn’t appear to be working.
Comment by Spud — May 1, 2007 @ 7:39 pm
MSNBC Live- 125,000 viewers (a scratch with 39,000)
Good god…MSNBC would just be better off simulcasting Squawk Box or something. Yikes.

What does a scratch mean?
Comment by Joe — May 1, 2007 @ 7:42 pm
Even KO reruns could do better.
Comment by Jim — May 1, 2007 @ 7:43 pm
Michael Smerconish did better than Miller is doing partly because he is known by MSNBC viewers.
I think MSNBC is just trying different things in the timeslot, including other radio hosts, to see what works and what doesn’t. They don’t want to spend money developing something, so don’t expect an MSNBCesque Fox&Friends or Early Show. Eventually they’ll try reruns or a morning doc-block, and find the ratings are about the same.
Comment by erljr — May 1, 2007 @ 7:52 pm
What does a scratch mean?
If memory serves, it means a program got less than a .1 share of the audience.

Well technically it means that only the person’s family and close friends watched.
Comment by Sam — May 1, 2007 @ 8:20 pm
Tom Joyner should be next getting a shot at the time period. They can’t do any worse.
Comment by Ripclawe — May 1, 2007 @ 8:23 pm
Although I agree with erljr (#20), having a scratch with a total audience less than 1/3 of Imus is alarming.
With such dreadful numbers, I doubt whether MSNBC will extend Miller for the entire week as they did with Smerconish.
Comment by Ira — May 1, 2007 @ 8:26 pm
Maybe all the TV’s in the invalids long-term care institutions were tuned to CNN sometime Monday and well, being invalids they couldn’t get up to change the channel when primetime came on and it was the night that their kids and grandkids came to visit, so WOW look at 360s numbers. Jon Klein’s army of channel changers worked out well.
See anyone can make up stuff, doesn’t make it true. The numbers go up the numbers go down.
Anderson being off Friday doens’t matter. The show still happened and it’s the same as every other night. People should be tuning in to watch the NEWS, not to see their “TV boyfriend” anyway.
Comment by Cooperite — May 1, 2007 @ 8:32 pm
The Bottom Line boys and girls is that MSNBC has Lost the morning demo, end of story! It does not matter who they bring in,they are officially toast in the morning…and what, all of a sudden, the I-Man is gone…and guess who is now reading the morning news at 9 am…none other than Dan Abrams personal favourite,Contessa Brewer…I knew he was gonna bring her in early mornings,it’s a get back at Don Imus thing…Dan,It’s not working! If you had the balls,You should take over the morning show…lets see if you can get more than a “SCRATCH “ratings wise…you sure as hell don’t answer your emails when they are sent to you!
Comment by BernieO — May 1, 2007 @ 10:30 pm
Fox was pretty low tonight, except for Fox & Friends!
Comment by Chet — May 1, 2007 @ 10:38 pm
Does MSNBC want their ratings to go through the roof?
Next week they should simulcast ‘The War Room’ with Quinn and Rose. Then they could follow that with Lionel since he is going to take the suicide leap onto Air America Mornings. Then after that they could do Neil Boortz for a week. Then they could do Tom Joyner for a week.
No thanks Dan, just send money.

I think MSNBC is just spinning wheels until Alison Stewart gets her morning radio show going. She did say she wasn’t leaving MSNBC entirely, after all.
Comment by berberry — May 1, 2007 @ 11:40 pm
berberry — last week when we discussed this possiblity for Alison I did not think that MSNBC could wait that long to fill that time slot. You must have given some more thought to the commerical breaks, etc. I think she would do an awesome job.
#8 ImNotBlue — I think you are correct — I look around my neighborhood in the evening and people are still outside at 8:30 or 9:00 every night.
IMO - Tomorrow when we see Miller’s numbers for this morning (Tues.#’s), I think we will see an increase as there was a lot of buzz about her last night “Good and Bad”. On ICN alone there were 66 comments. I think a few more people will have checked her out this morning out of curiosity!
Comment by Aunt Mary — May 2, 2007 @ 1:21 am
Well, well, well, CNN/AC360 gets good numbers, so NATURALLY, “Cooperite” has to surface in order to spew out more of its tiresome “Jon Klein/360 sucks” blather. Yawn. “Cooperite” is SO predictably boring.
Comment by Marty — May 2, 2007 @ 1:47 am
Msnbc will never make it. They have gotten rid of so msny talented people. I use to watch MSNBC 10 years ago. Linda Vester, Bridget Quinn, John Gibson, Laura Ingrham, Randy Mier etc. were all let go. It use to be good, because you got a variety of news people. Now all it is, I hate Bush or Bill O. Keith O. will never get higher in the ratings, everyone is a little over MSNBC since I-Man was fired. You should have waited….He picked on everyone. No once again, he was wrong to have picked on a bunch of young women, disgraceful, but he can’t be replaced.
Comment by cathy — May 2, 2007 @ 8:24 am
#8: I agree with you as well. Numbers for big broadcast network hits like American Idol and Desperate Housewives are down somewhat from last year as I understand it. It’s no surprise that the cable news ratings would drop a little as well.
Comment by Scott — May 2, 2007 @ 9:20 am
I just read on TV Newser that today was Miller’s final day on MSNBC. I thought she was supposed to host all week long.
Comment by Alison — May 2, 2007 @ 3:32 pm
She never was supposed to be on for the entire week.
Comment by Randy — May 2, 2007 @ 3:34 pm
When I channel surfed on Tuesday Stephanie and a caller were discussing crotch sweat. When I channel surfed today Stephanie was talking with cINDY (BUT IT’S NOT FAIR)Sheehan with Maxine Waters and John Conyers up next. What a TOTAL waste of TV time. MSNBC better thing hard and get these left wing lunatics off that time slot.
