Marsden out at Red Eye…
Gawker nailed it. Rachel Marsden blogs that she won’t be appearing on Red Eye anymore…
A note to inquiring Red Eye viewers: I will no longer be appearing on the show, as I have been told that it is heading in a “different direction” from its inception, and I am the “first casualty”.
UPDATE: Page Six has the story…
SECURITY officers hastily escorted “Red Eye” contributor Rachel Marsden out of Fox News Channel’s Midtown headquarters yesterday for bizarre and erratic behavior. “She’s out of her [bleeping] mind. She was doing crazy stuff,” a spy told us.

no surpise, I used to be the office manager for a well known F500 CEO and we used security escorts often…it means it’s all over.

Interesting, Anon. Her website makes it seems like she’s still a FNC contributor and that she was let go just from this one show.
But the security escort thing makes it seem pretty permanent.

Aw… she was fun on that show! A little dry humored, but she was a nice balance to everyone else.
Comment by Charles — May 30, 2007 @ 11:25 pm
Good they got rid of the stalker.

Admittedly, I’ve only watched the show a couple of times but I thought Rachel was the best part of the show. Did not know about her past, though.

We escorted people out when I worked retail! I wouldn’t read too much into it without more details.
Comment by Gab — May 31, 2007 @ 1:53 am
She is insane. She really damaged Fox’s reputation and obviously Fox takes a lot of liberties and Rachel Marsden is a dangerous human being. Her stalking is a disgrace to men and women, conservatives and liberals alike. She claimed to be harassed when she was not and harassed both men and women, hurting their careers and well-being.

It took a while but the show has grown on me. I didn’t think Rachel did a “bad” job….it’s obvious she wasn’t a comedian. But I thought she could be witty at times. Personally, I would have bet that Bill Schultz would have been the first to go….I just don’t think the guy is very funny. They have him doing “man on the street” stuff, so we’ll see where that goes.
From all the other news on the topic, I guess it was more behind-the-scenes personality conflict stuff than her performance on the show.
I wonder who they will replace her with….hopefully not Courtney Friel. She fits the bill with the long shots of the legs, but she doesn’t seem to have much to contribute beyond stories about meeting b-celebrities in clubs.
Comment by FishOil — May 31, 2007 @ 5:37 am
FishOil, Every time I see your name, I think “did I take my fish oil today?”. LOL, seriously, I do.
The few times I have been able to watch it (it’s on so darn late) I really enjoyed the show. I liked the guy who sits next to her (I don’t know his name) but he is pretty witty.
Comment by Noelle — May 31, 2007 @ 9:48 am
Forget Rachel damaging FNC’s reputation, they had that horrible Courtney Friel on in her place last night. She was horrible on Fox & Friends and she came across as extremely arrogant, shallow, and uninformed even on a show like that. Janice Dean was also a guest and comparing the two were like night and day. The hiring and in your face of Friel is where I’m going to lose respect for FNC.
Comment by Gab — May 31, 2007 @ 10:13 am
Gab: Boy am I glad I didn’t force myself to stay up and watch that! ROFLMAO!
Comment by Amused — May 31, 2007 @ 10:17 am
Be very glad, Amused. Rachel may be crazy, but at least she was somewhat intelligent. The only things Friel contributed were how ugly she think Ben Affleck’s baby is, how she spent 3 days in the Hamptons drinking this weekend, and when asked about the Chavez situation, she obviously knew nothing about the situation so she said something like OMG did you see Adam Housely getting things thrown at him!?!?
Comment by Gab — May 31, 2007 @ 11:00 am
Gab: Friel is very fortunate to have been born with such good looks, because otherwise she’d be unemployable.
I can’t stand the way FNC is trying to cram her down our collective throats. For a while, it seemed like she was on every show - John Gibson, Cavuto, Shep Smith, H&C and so on.
Fortunately, I doubt she’ll ever be showing up on Brit Hume’s show. :)

Lurker: Further update from the other “Rachel” thread:
Julia Allison appeared on the Wednesday “Morning Show With Mike and Juliet” which is broadcast from the NewsCorp Building. Somehow I don’t think she has been banned from “Red Eye.”
Gab: As you said, Last night Courtney Friel sat in Rachel’s chair. She had been scheduled. Janice Dean was the emergency fill-in.
Fishoil: I disagree about Bill Schulz. The guy is quick and witty but has been underutilized.

Sally, Mardsen damages their reputation because she is a stalker and a liar? The face of the network is a sexual harrasser.
Comment by Randy — May 31, 2007 @ 12:20 pm
For the life of me I can’t see where people think Friel is so attractive. Just another run-of-the-mill bleach blonde. Don’t even get me started on her empty head.
Comment by spiffo — May 31, 2007 @ 12:30 pm
You forgot Friels only other contribution, she said that she met tonights guest playboys playmate of the year for 2007, at the Kentucky derby, and “she is really nice”.
Comment by Cale — May 31, 2007 @ 1:35 pm
If they are going to add another person I wouldn’t mind Janice Dean, Rebecca Gomez or Laurie Dhue. I really liked their appearances on Red Eye. Like Charles said, Rachel had this dry humor and kind of balanced out guys, some of the funniest moments on Red Eye is when the guys play off her comments. Plus she’s intelligent added some insight to the stories but it seems like Gut wants every story to be some mindless punchline with no breaks for some serious talk. There was also this guys ganging up on her schtick that is gone from the show. It probably wasn’t even a schtick but for real. Keep on egging her until she cracks.

Amused / Gab — I caught a snippet of last night’s show. Friel was absolutely horrible. Between her neon-white teeth & her cluelessness, it was just sad. After seeing her pathetic impression of “Wonder Woman” in the most recent FOXercise segment & last night’s gig, if I hadn’t already been throwing up, those segments would’ve made me.
I think Brit Hume is smart enough to know that to have Friel on his show would completely ruin any & all credibility he & the show have. We’d never be able to take Brit/the show seriously ever again.
How exactly did Friel get the job at FNC/Foxnews.com ?? What exactly were the job requirements?? Sad sad sad …

Randy: How ridiculous!
By your definitiion, the face of CNN is a crook! Because early in his radio career, Larry King served jail time in Florida for what I believe were grand larceny charges!
Comment by Ira — May 31, 2007 @ 7:46 pm
#19 - I agree that Friel is just not good. Why they would keep putting her on with any consistency, in my estimation, would be because she is an attractive woman and thus attacts (no pun intended) the younger, male demographic.
What I think they should do with Friel is only bring her in when something big in the pop culture world breaks and she would have inside info. to pass along. Otherwise, she needs to be sent back down to the minors.
In regards to Marsden’s post, I wonder if there will be more “casualties”…..the show only has 4 permanent members (not counting Gutfeld’s mom).
Comment by FishOil — May 31, 2007 @ 8:44 pm
FishOil: I think you’re dead-on regarding why they brought in Friel.
As for Red Eye “casualties,” my hunch is that there won’t be any more firings. Why would Marsden post on her own blog that she was tossed out for being bonkers? That tale about “taking the show in a different direction” was made up to save face.
Comment by Amused — May 31, 2007 @ 9:52 pm
FishOil: I get the impression that Red Eye is reducing the time for Greg’s mom.
Last night, there was no spontaneity to her phone call and Greg said she’s be gone the remainder of the week.
Comment by Ira — May 31, 2007 @ 10:55 pm
Yeah, but Larry King did his time like 70 or 80 years ago. Rachel’s escapades are still pretty fresh.
I’ve known some gorgeous whack-jobs in the past and she fits the mold. Approach with caution.
