GretaWire on the CNN debate…

Greta blogs about last night’s CNN debate…

At the risk of some friends getting mad at me… did you happen to see the Democratic debate last night in New Hampshire, hosted by my former employer CNN? Wolf Blitzer, my good friend, did a great job… my only complaint: Did CNN have to use only white men to do it?

I noticed a full page ad in the New York Times announcing Wolf, Larry, Lou Dobbs, Anderson Cooper and John Roberts. Yikes! Would CNN not notice or not care? I don’t know which is worse. How about a woman? A Hispanic? An African American? When FOX did its debate, Wendell Goler — an African American — played a prominent role.

And while I am at it: The Democratic candidates on the stage snubbed FOX and its partner the Congressional Black Caucus in favor of CNN and its five white guys. What’s with that? Would you not think the candidates would be sensitive to this problem? Yikes! Perhaps Sen. Edwards should clue CNN that indeed there are two Americas — maybe more — not just all white guys.

  1. Why is this not surprising? Greta, wake up from your slumber. FNC has exactly ONE AFRICAN AMERICAN hosting a show . You might want to read that twice so it sinks in. Sheesh! CNN has more minorities (African-American, Asian) than FNC & MSNBC combined! HELLO? How about telling the truth for once instead of trying to get a free rip in just because FNC had Wendell Goler moderating. Too bad they don’t think enough of him to actually host a show! OUTRAGEOUS!

    Comment by Terance — June 4, 2007 @ 12:27 pm

  2. Wow Terance….take a breath. It was all white middle aged to elderly men last night covering the debate. So what? It could possibly be Wendell’s decision not to host a show, not everyone needs that kind of ego feed to live.

    Why wasn’t Paula there?

I would like to know, since when did the “best political team on TV” include the legal dude, Toobin? What a joke!

What are the ratings for last night? Would they have been higher if everyone could look up Chestry’s skirt and see her journalism? It would have been hysterical to watch her floundering though, not a clue what was going on and not paying attention to what was being said.

Is there anyone else who can’t understand a word that Huffington says? Or is it just me? Is she even speaking English?

  3. Greta, YOU GO GIRL.

    Comment by Cathy — June 4, 2007 @ 12:44 pm

  4. CNN’s after debate show was hilarious..AC? Larry King?Huffington? Toobin? “Best Political team on TV? roflmao!

  5. Why wasn’t Paula there?

Uh… ‘cause she sucked so bad on election night? Just a guess.

Is there anyone else who can’t understand a word that Huffington says? Or is it just me?

    Just you, Mary.

  6. Greta should shut her trap. The post debate had many African Americans and so does there programming in general.

    Comment by Randy — June 4, 2007 @ 1:01 pm

  7. Greta should go back to defending murderers. She sucks on TV.

    Comment by PF — June 4, 2007 @ 1:12 pm

  8. Yeah even the pre-debate had 2 African-Americans I believe…and despite #1’s excitement, he does have a point. FNC is in NO position to ridicule other networks about their “lack of diversity”. I guess Greta didn’t have any other nonsense jibberish to blog about today…

  9. Wow, I really needed that laugh.

Maybe Greta should review FNC’s tapes from the past decade before her foot goes any further down her throat. Talk about total lack of diversity, especially during elections!

    Comment by RC — June 4, 2007 @ 1:19 pm

  10. PS — Mary Snow, you so need to be voted off the island.

    Comment by RC — June 4, 2007 @ 1:23 pm

  11. Greta is way out of line here. I completely agree with #1. She should just stick to her tabloid ‘news’ show, and inform FNC viewers more on Anna Nicole, or Lindsay Lohan. That’s what seems to drive ratings over there anyway.

    Comment by Peoplepeople — June 4, 2007 @ 1:57 pm

  12. Mary Snow gets to stay on the island. She’s right - Huffington sounds like Zsa Zsa Gabor, dahling.

    Comment by Missy — June 4, 2007 @ 2:05 pm

  13. Greta’s a very intelligent lady. So why would she write such a stupid letter in her blog?

    Any ideas?

Mary Snow, Kiran is a terrific anchor, is it her fault that she also happens to be gorgeous?…jeez…give her a break!

    Comment by A.M. — June 4, 2007 @ 2:20 pm

  14. Huffington sounds like Zsa Zsa Gabor, dahling.

Are you saying you couldn’t understand anything Zsa Zsa said, Missy? Or that you just dislike accents?

    Comment by Arthur — June 4, 2007 @ 2:31 pm

  15. Another vote for “Mary Snow” to be booted off the island.

As for Greta’s remarks, Fox is certainly not the first channel that comes to mind when I think of diversity. And it’s kind of hard to take her comments seriously with the all the “Yikes!” she’s got going on in there.

    Comment by Marty — June 4, 2007 @ 2:31 pm

  16. I’m with you this time, MS. They are bringing in a lot of New York people to be part of their “political team,” (AC) while shunning others who should be there (Bill Bennett). Paula Zahn and Larry King should never have been part of it in the first place. The entire FNC team is Washington based; and MSNBC’s non-Washington people have political shows.
I’m with Missy too. Zsa Zsa Huffington needs to be booted from the island.

    Comment by erljr — June 4, 2007 @ 2:44 pm

  17. Diversity is what makes america great! Black, White, Brown, Indian, Asian…etc. CNN has more diversity on air than MSNBC and FNC combined! And is the only reason wendall what is name is on the air/helped with the debate just because he’s black. Skin color shouldn’t be the determining factor on who gets on the air and who doesn’t. And yes CNN did have black analyzers on after the debate. Greta just needed a bone to pick! AND Mary Snow just can’t help herself since her favorite CNN anchor got tossed off the island a couple of years ago. Maybe she should join him huh?

    Comment by Me — June 4, 2007 @ 3:08 pm

  18. > wendall what is name is on the air/helped with the debate

Another classic from “Me”. He references Mr Goler by his first name only, then, though he was one of the questioners, “Me” says he just “helped with the debate”. “Helped” how, “me”? By dusting the podium and shining shoes? Funny how people will demean and minimize the accomplishments of others, all in the name of “diversity” and attacking Fox.

  19. Mary Snow,
I can’t understand Huffington either unless I work at it.
Usually I don’t want to work at it!!
    Stay on the island!

    Comment by Cella — June 4, 2007 @ 3:29 pm

  20. I believe the lack of diversity applies to the republican candidates for president. They are all white males. The democrats have Hillary, Bill Richardson, and Obama.

    Comment by alice cervantes — June 4, 2007 @ 3:45 pm

  21. VERY EXCELLENT POINT ALICE #20. REPUBLICAN’S TAKE NOTE.

    Comment by Peoplepeople — June 4, 2007 @ 4:27 pm

  22. I thought we all agreed…
Hasn’t Condy already been crowned Veep for the Republicans next time around?

    Comment by erljr — June 4, 2007 @ 5:44 pm

  23. Why are you liberals attacking one of your own. Greta was with cnn for years and had the #2 spot after Larry King. She is a well respected dem and it was fox’s gain and cnn’s loss or is she just a “bad” liberal because she joined fnc.

    Comment by Cathy — June 4, 2007 @ 5:53 pm

  24. it’s not about whether she’s a ‘liberal’ or not, it’s the fact that complaints about racial diversity coming from a Fox News host is laughable.

    Comment by Mr A — June 4, 2007 @ 6:36 pm

  25. Greta, how far do you want to take this “racist” attack against CNN? Let’s see, how much diversity does your show have? It’s about 99.9 white when I watch it. Pot calling the kettle white?

    Comment by jim — June 4, 2007 @ 7:20 pm

  26. Greta,
Does this mean a tv program can’t air without minorities present? I’m all for equal opportunity, but
being in a minority group, I think this is more a political attack on the Democrats and CNN than any concern you have about racial equality. How many black or hispanic men host Fox News shows? How come you have 99.9 percent whites on your show? Layla

    Comment by layla — June 4, 2007 @ 7:27 pm

  27. Why Greta talk about racial diversity if she always ran histories about white missin’ girls and boys? Natalee Holloway, Lori Hacking, Laci Peterson…

    Comment by Rodrigo — June 4, 2007 @ 8:53 pm

  28. You libs really do eat your own. FNC do have diversity, pull up their menu with their bios on all their reporters. They have more then the rest.

    Comment by Cathy — June 4, 2007 @ 9:12 pm

  29. Cathy, why should we consider Greta our own? SHe doesnt or rarely talks about politics. I would never be able to identify her as a liberal from watching her show. It is all Hollywood crap and court cases. Not much politics there.

    Comment by Randy — June 4, 2007 @ 11:26 pm

  30. Randy we are not suppose to know what side of the aisle someone is on. Now days the news, left and right are all so bias. Greta hides her views on politics very well. She is not a political person or show.

    Comment by Cathy — June 5, 2007 @ 8:11 am

  31. Guys, Greta DOES have a diverse program. Most of the attys. she has on are women (Gloria Allred, Pam Bondi, Mercedes Colwin, Lis Wiehl, Jeanine Pirro and MANY OTHERS), and her other main panelists, Rod Wheeler and Ted Williams, are black.
