So I guess I missed the announcement That “Msnbc Live” is the replacement for the I-Guy.
Quite sure they were calling it “Mourning Joe” last week. Ah well, too bad for Joe.
But I am glad to see they have decided to move forward and replace the I-guy’s format, cause it doesn’t work !

How can Keith “Second Place” Olbermann be mired in an abysmal FOURTH place out of FIVE? Haven’t we been instructed by dozens of writers for American publications that Olbermann is especially “popular” among “younger viewers”?
Comment by Tom — June 25, 2007 @ 5:46 pm
Don’t ask silly questions Tom. The journalists know better.
Comment by Edward Schatz — June 25, 2007 @ 5:56 pm
Isn’t it time for Countdown to start inviting guests on, who disagree, and mix it up with host Keith Olbermann?
We get it, Keith- ya’ll hate the gop and bush administration.
However, your show has been on the same loop for about
18 months now.
Comment by TK — June 25, 2007 @ 6:00 pm
Ugh, Tom and Edward posting on a ratings thread. I wonder what (or who) they could be talking about?
MSNBC will be hoping that some of Tucker’s 4pm audience will follow him to 6pm if what TVN says is true. His numbers there are terrible.
Comment by Mr A — June 25, 2007 @ 6:03 pm
Beck beats tweety-Matthews again. Wonderful.
Why is there no or little talk about beck’s slow uptick?
Kudos for HLN.
Comment by Shady Grady — June 25, 2007 @ 6:14 pm
If Beck was a liberal, he would have a couple hundred fawning articles already written about him by now. Similar to KO’s.
Comment by Jim — June 25, 2007 @ 6:19 pm
NBC/MSNBC fires Stone Phillips and Brian williams weekend replacement and won’t pay Brown more money but will hire Rosie, and pay KO up to 4 million. There priorities are all screwed up.
Why is Dan a general manager?
Comment by Alix — June 25, 2007 @ 6:21 pm
-Wait till ya see the nut their gonna throw at Rosie.

What, only three KO bashers? A measly third of the comments? you guys are slipping.
Comment by Arthur — June 25, 2007 @ 7:08 pm
Now now Arthur, don’t shed any tears just yet. This would Olbermann could move up to third in the demo.

Comment by Edward Schatz — June 25, 2007 @ 7:13 pm
Who’s shedding tears, Ed? I’m just wondering if you guys are off your feed or something. You feeling all right? Getting enough sleep?
Comment by Arthur — June 25, 2007 @ 7:18 pm
The Jessie Davis tragedy pulled good numbers for Greta and Nancy Grace. I know that it’s a compelling story, but I hope Greta starts to back off the wall to wall coverage. However, it probably won’t let up for a while, notwithstanding the ridculus Paris Hilton release from jail tomorrow.
Comment by Objective Analyst — June 25, 2007 @ 7:33 pm
Why isn’t anybody talking about Fox and Friends beating O’Reilly in the demo?
Comment by Jack Lewis — June 25, 2007 @ 8:27 pm
If KO wants higher ratings he needs to yell more and have conservatives on for him to yell at.(AKA become a liberal BOR)
Comment by JMK24 — June 25, 2007 @ 9:47 pm
Tucker should stay at 4 and David Shuster should get a 6pm show. OR… MATTHEWS should be put at 6 exclusively. Matthews is enough of a blow-hard to get huge ratings @ 6.
Comment by JMK24 — June 25, 2007 @ 9:52 pm
Steve, Gretchen, Alisyn and Brian have really been racking up the demo numbers.
Their success is not all that surprising though, they put on a wonderful show.
My congrats to the gang!
Comment by A.M. — June 25, 2007 @ 10:29 pm
Yes, F&F is a good show, but I think Alisyn is trying to push her way into the spotlight too much, with her being with the gang at the end and all. She seems to try and out-talk Gretchen.
Comment by JMK24 — June 25, 2007 @ 10:39 pm
JMK24, either Alisyn or someone is trying to push her onto the program. I’ve seen commercials advertising the fact that she’s reading the news for a few minutes out of the hour. And someone wrote here last week that she ends up being on the set with the three of them at the end of the program! Lauren never did that.
Comment by Missy — June 25, 2007 @ 11:08 pm
Alisyn brings a lot to the show and I believe Gretchen understands that; and has been so gracious and professional about it, it’s endearing her more to the viewers. And besides, it’s not Alisyn who makes the calls, it’s the producers/directors who say when and where the talent appear in front of the camera.
Actually, I thought it was rather odd when Alisyn wasn’t there at the end of the show. Having her sitting with the gang at the end, gives her a chance to promote the next days show, plus it ties the whole 3 hours together…imo
Comment by A.M. — June 25, 2007 @ 11:11 pm
Still, I think Gretchen is slowly floating into illegitimacy. Elizabeth Hasselback filled in for her once (Which was stupid)and now Alisyn is getting a lot more air time. With the guys, they each have their thing sports or weather, but the ladies have none so they fight more for air time.
Comment by JMK24 — June 25, 2007 @ 11:28 pm
I am not a morning person, however I was up early today. I tried to watch Fox and Friends — too peppy for me that early, I need someone grumpy like IMUS. I turned to CNN, too dry and boring. Flipped to MSNBC, awful, just awful, I love Willie G. but even he who is always great on Tucker was just dry and boring. I gave up and watched a movie.
Comment by Aunt Mary — June 25, 2007 @ 11:55 pm
I am glad to know it’s not just me thinking Alisyn is trying to get too much face time. I personally cannot stand her as I get tired of the dramatics, the rolling eyes, the trying to be funny bits she does. Gretchen is so cool and normal acting and brings a bit of sanity to Steve Doofus and the other guy with the brown hair that’s not Steve Doosy. (Steven Colbert’s description). Lauren Greene was wonderful and I miss her cause she didn’t try to hog the spotlight like Alisyn does. I find myself more and more watching Robin & Company when she is on.
Comment by sophia — June 26, 2007 @ 8:05 am
Believe it or not, I ended up flipping to Morning Joe as both F&F and AM were talking about Paris Hilton.
Comment by JMK24 — June 26, 2007 @ 8:38 am
I have 30 minutes to catch up on the news in the morning as I get ready for work. Which is why I watch CNN. If I had 3 hours to kill, I’d watch CNN for an hour and then a movie and still get more news than watching 3 hours of F&F.
Comment by Omal — June 26, 2007 @ 9:06 am
After months of awkwardness when Gretchen replaced E.D. Hill, F&F seems to have found ratings success with a televised version of a right-wing radio morning show.
The news headlines are buried in favor of the items that attract heavy interest (Paris, Rosie, and the Pants-Judge). Issues like the Iraq war and politics seem only to be discussed when they can be used to praise the administration or (more often) bash Democrats.
When Lauren Green was there, the show was more on the Today Show/GMA model: a block of hard news followed by the fluff. Lauren, with her admirable formality (refusing even to use terms like “busted” and “cops”) was usually able to deliver the news and step aside (though Brian Kilmeade’s antics sometimes made her clearly uncomfortable).
Under the current format, the newsreader seems obligated to be part of the hijinks. Alisyn fits into this role easily (maybe too easily, as she often seems to step on Gretchen’s toes). I just can’t see Lauren Green reading a headline/teaser for yet another Griff Jenkins segment on the Pants-Judge.

I like Morning Joe…at least you get some objective talk about REAL news instead of the Bush Cheerleading at F&F.
