Fisking Chris Matthews…

FishbowlDC fact checks Chris Matthews during his Ann Coulter interview…

On yesterday’s edition of Hardball, Chris Matthews made the claim that Ann Coulter was the first person to mention the names Anna Nicole Smith and Paris Hilton on his show:

_________

A cursory search of recent Hardball transcripts, however, shows a different picture.

Fishbowl has a point, particularly about Hilton which Matthews himself covered as a story, but if we want to go by the literal interpretation of Matthews’ remarks, wouldn’t both names have to be used by someone on the show to qualify?

  1. Nice catch.

Just to add - Matthews came off as hypocritical when he was moderating the phone call between Elizabeth Edwards and Coulter that dealt with stopping personal attacks and lowering the discourse. Earlier in the show Matthews referred to the part of the crowd that was there supporting Coulter by making a reference to the film “Deliverance.” Anyone who has seen it can surmise what he was asserting.

  2. Isn’t everyone sick of Matthews “shouting and spinning”?
That is, when he is not sulking.

  3. As much as Ann often “asks for it” in some of her discourse, I end up siding with her because of all the overkill that the MSM flings at her after the fact.

Again, she was taken out of context - she just said she would next time say about Edwards EXACTLY what Bill Maher said about Cheney. But of course that first part was omitted from all the sound bites that were spread throughout the media world.

But Ann sure gets her revenge on Matthews and Edwards - go to her website and look up her current column, “That was no lady - that was my husband”. http://www.anncoulter.com/cgi-local/welcome.cgi

Again, I find it hard to defend many of Ann’s comments, but she was really set up this time.
