Laura Ingle attacked live on the air…

FNC’s Laura Ingle was doing a live remote on the IPhone around 9:50 am ET when someone came up and yanked her microphone away. He then tried to run off with it. Johnny Dollar has the video.

  5. I just happened to catch the incident. Laura was interviewing a man who was one of a very few who has had an iPhone. He was explaining the various features when the guy tried to grab the mike. However, the security jumped right in…Laura handled the incident very well…she was very cool while on the air. I predict that we’ll soon see this clip replayed frequently.

  6. ^ I’ve seen the clip and it looks to me like “fox security” was a little LATE to the action.

  8. Attacked? puh-leez.

why didn’t they bring the guy with the iPhone inside so he could give a calm interview and not be surrounded by sleep-deprived tech crazies?

i AM victim blaming! sue me

  12. CNN’s, Starr, will report about this incident saying, “Al Qaeda’s violence is now spewing out of Iraq and moving overseas..Roberts’ will agree and add, “it’s no longer just an organization, but a fullblown movement. Kiran will nod agreeably.

    Hold onto your IPhones.

  16. “behind bars? For snatching a microphone? I really hope you’re kidding…”

No. Assault & Attempted Robbery are criminal acts. The person who perpetrated them should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

    Comment by craig gordon — June 29, 2007 @ 12:17 pm

  17. Hey A.M., Maybe Kiran sent one of her interns over to do a little dirty work for her! Chet looked a little out of place this morning while sitting between Roberts and Amanpour. They know their stuff, and it makes her inexperience stand out so much more when a big story hits.

Ingle handled this incident just fine. The FOX anchor was trying to hype it up and make a big deal out of it, but Laura calmly described what happened and then moved on. She is one of the best reporters on FOX, IMO.

  18. Laura Ingle stands about 4′-10″. She makes Greta Van Susteren look like Yao Ming!

I would have loved to see somebody attempt to attack Geraldo Rivera doing an interview. From his old syndicated show, we know Geraldo has some boxing experience!

    Comment by Ira — June 29, 2007 @ 12:28 pm

  19. Obviously this was totally uncalled for. I’m not even a FNC fan, but what the hell…what the heck was that all about? Let the lady do her job. That man should simply be prosecuted.
I fear now FNC may show this over and over and turn it into a ‘liberal’ wacko, nut-job issue now. Perhaps the guy was? Don’t know, but this definately was dispicable behavior.

  25. California Dreamin’, IMO you are the most biased blogger that I’ve ever encountered. I have to chucke at the way you despise Kiran. I watched every minute of the CNN coverage this morning and Kiran was terrific. She did more than just hold her own with John and Christiane. Of course, you’r not the only one….lots of people can’t stand Kiran. It is interesting that the vast majority of the (lets not say hate) “Anti-Kiran Crowd,” are female. That’s another topic. Anyway, the topic of this thread is Laura. To address that topic, I think Laura, as well as Security, handled the incident very well. It’s a great example of how quick things happen.

  26. Can someone explain the fascination with Kiran Chetry?

Yes, she’s a competent reporter/host and she’s attractive, but why the big deal over her, like she’s one of the giants of broadcasting?

Also, I agree with those who’ve said that Laura handled this with class and finesse. She’s a total pro. :)

    Comment by Amused — June 29, 2007 @ 1:18 pm

  27. OA,

I’m a fan of Kiran’s, but I too felt she looked a bit out of
place this morning, sitting between the likes of Roberts and Christiane.

I’m sure she’ll carry her own gravitas someday.

  29. Hi Amused, I hear you. I too have been wondering why the fascination with Kiran. I guess the way that she departed from FNC brought addded attention. The Page Six piece, etc. However, no doubt about it, her looks get lots of attention. I appreciate the “whole package.” She appears to come from a good family. We all know her husband is cool.

    Comment by Objective Analyst — June 29, 2007 @ 1:30 pm

  30. Objective Analyst, I’m just saying that Chetry doesn’t have the experience or wealth of information to draw on that a bunch of the others at Cnn have. They are a network that prides itself on hard news and hard facts, and the team that they’ve hired at Cnn proves that. At FOX, Chetry worked with many who hadn’t been in the business any longer than she had and didn’t have any more experience, but at Cnn she is in the minority with the qualifications that she has. I want to mention that many of the FOX anchors would have the same problem if they were to go to Cnn. They would all look “green” compared to the Cnn team.

    Comment by california dreamin — June 29, 2007 @ 1:37 pm

  31. OA: Even when she was still at FNC, she had a huge fan club who thought that the sun, planets and stars revolved around her. Like I said: she’s pretty and she obviously has a brain in her head, but I don’t get the cult-like status she has.

She’s obviously good at what she does, but so are so many other pretty and intelligent women in the business, but most of them don’t have the whirlwind of attention and obsession that she generates.

    Comment by Amused — June 29, 2007 @ 1:44 pm

  32. Hey California, I can’t disagree with that. She is very green. If she can keep it up for a while, several years, she should gain credibility with more viewers. I just want everyone to give her a fair shake.

    Comment by Objective Analyst — June 29, 2007 @ 1:48 pm

  33. Objective Analyst, Okay, so we agree that Chetry is “green”. And maybe that’s why FOX didn’t give her the hosting job she wanted. Gretchen, having been with CBS previously, plus her experience with covering big stories in the past, most likely impressed Roger Ailes enough to make up his mind for him. Kiran overreached in her demands for Gretchen’s reassignment and has now created very high expectations for herself at Cnn. She thought she was so good, and now she has to prove it. She is going to have a tough time making a name for herself at Cnn because of the veterans that are currently in place, who are willing to go on location, travel the world, acquire “sources” and dig up the facts. She can’t just sit in the studio like she did at FOX. Cnn is much more demanding.

  36. Since we’re off topic in this thread.. Check out what Bill Moyers’ had to say about FNC on TVN! SNAP!

    Comment by Terance — June 29, 2007 @ 2:43 pm

  37. If a tree “SNAP”(s) in the middle of a forest, does any one hear it ?

That’s the like Mr Moyers (the tree), saying something on PBS, (the forest).

No one and I mean no one hears it.

By the way since you brought up tvn, Ms. Friel, is doing exactly what they hired her to do. She’s the entertainment correspondent, for the website NOT the third chair on FF.

  40. Hmmm, the “snap” I was referring to would be that of a bull whip. Anyway, Friel isn’t qualified to work in market #207. But, I realize FNC’s standards are set pretty low. Although its frightening to think there is anyone with less knowledge than her on the payroll.

    Comment by Terance — June 29, 2007 @ 3:18 pm

  41. What do Kiran Chetry, Courtney Friel, or Bill Moyers have to do with Laura Ingle’s microphone having been stolen by some wacko while she was in the middle of a live hit this morning?

And Peoplepeople, your fears were unwarranted, as I have not seen any video of this on FNC since it happened live this morning. And I’m home without a car today so I’ve had the TV on most of the day.

    Comment by OverHere — June 29, 2007 @ 4:10 pm

    Comment by Amused — June 29, 2007 @ 4:35 pm

  43. Amused, I’m not at all sure what that has to do with Laura being attacked. But to answer your question, I normally keep a car AT my home. Not sure why that matters to you though…
