Hemmer in London…
Bill Hemmer reported live from London this afternoon. He is anchored the 3 PM and 4 PM hours today and will also co-anchor America’s Newsroom live from London on Monday morning. Hemmer was last seen in London, covering the British sailors’ hostage situation and also was hailed for his reporting last summer when a terrorism plot at Heathrow International was thwarted.

I watched his 3pm report and he was good as always. CNN must be kicking themselves.

Eh, the only thing about him on FNC seems that he looks worse than he ever did on CNN in my mind, maybe it’s the in your face camera shots or maybe some makeup thing, who knows. Even so, it was one of the few live broadcasts today, but didn’t seem like too much to talk about the times I rang in to it.

You probably are just missing his glasses.
He did a great job of cutting over to Sky News for updates and he had some good interviews. Everyone else was on tape and he was doing a great job. Just when I applaud FOX for stepping it up, I tune in and see that stupid pretend news thing that they had this evening. Anything is better than that satire. I want news. They should have had Hemmer on in it’s place.

Well, one item would have to be Hemmer needs to get some sleep to broadcast tomorrow for AN. Still, the only item would be nothing is breaking right now and rolling coverage would be completely pointless bable about nothing.

Excuse me… Nic Robertson was live sunday morning at 5:00 am ET reporting from Glasgow the latest, not from London. CNN have people on the ground, in Glasgow, and have a set and a newsroom in London w/ more people that one ‘talking head’ like Bill Hemmer. Come on!…
Fox need to broadcast more from Sky News if they want to be better than the ‘very busy’ CNN’s London Centre.

I always feel better when Hemmer is on. I’m glad he is in London reporting this story to us. He brought in Sky News several times so I don’t know what some of you are talking about (did you guys actually watch Bill and FOX?)
Comment by Noelle — July 2, 2007 @ 11:14 am
Rodrigo…you obviously have NOT been watching Fox….Of COURSE Fox is using Sky News…ITS there SISTER network…owned by News Corp/ Murdock….

CNN used Sky News footage on Saturday at 12:24 PM, which I reember because I looked at my watch. Fox and CNN were airing the same footage at the same exact time. it was very funny. Why would Fox give CNN permission to do that?

Whoa! Hemmer on Sunday.
Perfect.
This young journalist has a bright future ahead of him.
It was a treat to have Bill Hemmer reporting instead of that stable of insignificant women news readers FNC is trotting out, weekend after weekend.

Cella…Where do you see Bill’s future heading?…I know that this time next year he will be in contract negotiations….Would love to hear your thoughts

Whenchie…I like to see Hemmer on the big stories and breaking news. I just love that guy! And what about a Sunday morning show teaming him back with Jack Cafferty to do commentary? I know, I know…Jack is still at CNN, but things can change can’t they? Bill and Jack were a better team than Wolf and Jack.
Comment by newsfan — July 2, 2007 @ 3:32 pm
Newsfan….Somehow I cant ever see Jack going to Fox…I think he would shoot himself first..lol…and I really cant see Bill going back to CNN with Klien still there and where their last offer was the WH Correspondent post…Bill seems to really like Fox besides….
But certainly viewers can dream .. :-)….I fully expect Bill to resign with Fox…I cant imagine any of the networks offering him a position that he would be willing to take…and I cant see a struggle MSNBC making much of a bid…I doubt CNN wants him back….So I see him back at Fox…and I think he will be ok with that….

I should add one of the reason I cant see Hemmer back at CNN is…John Roberts…..He was a massive “get” for CNN and I dont think Bill would be happy with anything less than an anchor chair….If anyone is kicking themselves its not CNN letting Hemmer go….Its CBS letting Roberts go….
I am a big admirer of Bill’s but its fair to say he really doesnt have the creditials that John Roberts has…Not at this point…He simply hasnt done enough long term field reporting…He went to anchoring too quickly I think in terms of his long term outlook….Same thing happened to Peter Jennings…He got the anchor job when he was young but wasnt ready…so he left the chair and went and got more experience…

Interesting comments Wenchie. Actually Hemmer reminds me of a younger John Roberts (looks and reporting style).

I agree newsfan…Perhaps when Bill is in his 50’s and has more experience under his belt….and gets a more widely known name (hard to do when you are at a cable network…Roberts is fortunate that he spent so much time at CBS) the suits and powers that be will see him in a more formidable role…
I recall what Bill Shine (Sr VP of programming) had to say when Hemmer was hired….
“He knows what he’s doing. He’s a solid journalist,’” Shine said. “Could he be even stronger? We think he can be.”
After watching both men report over time…I can and do see the difference though…But its only fair to say Roberts has something like an extra decade of solid journalist experience over Bill…
Given the opportunites…(and in this industry most are just lucky to have a job)…He’ll get stronger like Shine suggested….
