Tony Danza on Paris/CNN…

The Washington Post’s Liz Kelly has Tony Danza commenting on Paris Hilton and CNN… (via Shenanigans)

You used to host your own TV talk show. Considering all the hype surrounding the Paris Hilton interview and the jockeying to score the first one, would you have gone for a chance to talk to her?

I was in an airport [last Wednesday] when that whole Paris Hilton interview was going down. I was watching “The Situation Room” and they were talking about this interview that hadn’t happened yet and then counting down to it. I’ll never watch CNN again.

I mean it. I think something’s happened to news and entertainment. News has become entertainment. They don’t give you what you need, they give you what you want. And entertainment has taken a turn, too. People aren’t much interested in virtuosity. They just want to feel better when they watch something and that changes it all. So I don’t know, maybe that’s why Broadway was so great and I’m going to Vegas.

  1. Tony Danza??! Hey, why not get a comment from Montel, Sally Jesse Raphael, and Jenny Jones too?

  2. Is he still alive? It’s pretty hard to imagine that someone looking down from the lofty heights of “Whos the Boss” would have a negative word to say.

  3. Throw in Geraldo Rivera for good measure!

  4. “News has become entertainment”
HUH? I think this mental giant got it backwards.

  5. I’m really no Paris Hilton fan, but I feel bad for her in that she now seems to be the personification of tabloid news (or non-news). A plethora of entertainment programs and newspapers, and tabloids, have been around FOREVER, covering each and every move of these non-important Hollywood types. Yet it’s just now becoming obvious to everyone that they really don’t matter?

Again, I am no fan of Paris, but shouldn’t we be equally sick of hearing about people such as Angelina Jolie, all of the Anna Nicole hanger-onners, and the countless others that the media has inflicted upon us over the years? And I am truly sick of hearing of all these “stars” and their out-of-wedlock offspring. As a member of “Jesusland”, I do not find this an honorable way to live one’s life, and wish we’d stop seeing it glorified by the media.

  6. Hate to say I agree with Danza, but CNN has sullied the “brand” of The Situation Room with their inclusion of Hilton news et. al. Cavuto is interviewing porn stars. And Hardball tries to shoehorn Hilton into a political framework. Give me a break.
