Studio B gets the wrecking ball…
Beginning Monday, all FNC shows that air from Studio B will move to various other studios (Studios A, C, and D. A new fifth studio, Studio E, is currently under construction). Studio B and its control room are to be gutted and renovated. The obvious question is what happens to “Studio B with Shepard Smith”? Of course the show will continue, but will it still be called “Studio B” since it won’t be airing from Studio B anymore? We shall see…

Studio B includes where FOX & Friends, 11am FNL, and The Big Story are done?

I don’t have a list of all the shows affected but yes Fox and Friends is one.

Good Jesus, great balls of fire, FNC finally saw the light! B has looked horrible for at least the last year and thank god they are finally retiring the product, its worked well but it just got old! Anyway, I wonder if FNC has plans to move into more space in the News Corp building, they can’t have too much room left to add in FBC.

Perhaps there will be a change to HD and digital equipment.
TBS is doing it, CNN is doing it. Maybe Murdoch is making the changeover–an inevitability.

Im worried about the transition period. How long is this going to last for and how much worse could the set look?… Im sensing we are going to see alot of close up shots of the hosts during the renovation
I hope they give it a permanent set, rather than the rotating ones we have now. Would be nice to have a long desk. a soft area for fox&friends/interviews and a BIG modern screen, not like the dated one they have now.
Shows that are LIVE from B:
Fox & Friends First
Fox & Friends
Fox News Live with ED Hill
Fox News Live with Jon Scott
Studio B with Shepard Smith
The Big Story with John Gibson
The Fox Report with Shepard Smith

Well, all editions of The Big Story and The Fox Report are from the studio, not to mention the Sunday morning edition of FNL. If anything, they have broadcast from other studios before and they usually do it pretty well, like when The Big Story comes from the same studio as the Journal Editorial Report.

Too bad all the studios at FNC aren’t getting the wrecking ball. Now that would be progress!

When B is unavaliable, Studio B usually airs from Studio A. (And is still called “Studio B”.)
They’ve done this kind of thing before and it’s worked out just fine for all the programs. And that was before they even had Studio D!

Well, I am hoping this also means new graphics too, they are using the tube LIVE/Location bug again on the channel for a car chase, the bug not being used since the terror scare a few weeks ago.

not to be off topic or anything, but when will the weekday primetime shows get new graphics and sound? studio b, your world, big story, and special report all got the new stuff but when will fox report, oreilly, h&c, and greta get an overhaul?? just wondering…….

1/4 if not more of the screen is at least cover by graphics.
i wish they as a law saying how much of the screen can be cover.

FNC usually rolls out about 4-5 big graphics changes per year. So, on average, a show stays with the same graphics package for an average of two years. Some shows, like Cashin’ In, are prone to frequent tweaks and changes. Others, like Special Report, rarely get a overhaul.
FOX News Live used to be changed over about once a year, but I think that’s slowed down recently. H&C just got a overhaul about a year ago, and before that they had their graphics for what, 4 years? So there’s no exact science behind anything. And I think for the 8-10 programs, they are more hesistant to change all the time, just to create consistancy.

Does it matter what studio it airs from? Look at America’s Newsroom, it doesn’t air from the newsroom. Does FNC have a newsroom…hmmmmm.
Comment by Me — July 6, 2007 @ 8:18 pm
“Me”, they have that one anchor seat in the middle of their newsroom that they use during FNL updates during the evenings.
Comment by Chris — July 6, 2007 @ 8:22 pm
Chris, that’s actually Studio N. They have one or two other one-seat newsroom camera shots, too, but I don’t recall what those studio letters are. (I assume “N” stands for Newsroom, so that’s why it’s not letter D, E or the such.)
(Yes, I am a nerd…)

I’ve toured FNC… and that studio (Studio N, as you called it) is really just a glass box in the middle of the news room. A whole bunch of cubicles and stuff, with a little “news cage” in the center.
I kinda felt like tapping on the glass when I walked past, but I thought that would be rude.

I am very excited! Studio B absolutely needs to be redone. I hope FNC goes HD, but I doubt it. I assume that Studio B will also be renovated to help go along with Fox Business’s launch. I guess the one thing Studio B will now have is more flat screens. I hope that big projection screen goes, the pictures it presents look horrible on my plasma TV. I feel bad for Fox and Friends, it always seems like they are moving to one studio to another. Maybe FNC will start doing more segments outside during the renovation. I remember when Shep used to do Fox News Live outside and the anchors would conduct interviews in the plaza. The setting was nice seeing NYC in the summer. Well, good luck on the renovations!

More to the point what is up with the total lack of Skinnerville and teasers on Studio B and the FOX Report… it seems to have gone all serious and is no longer fun?
Comment by Paul Tomlinson — July 7, 2007 @ 1:47 pm
It will be interesting to see if they go ahead an upgrade to HD while making the studio changes. There is definitely some FNC talent that I would have no problems watching in 56″ of HD glory. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see the FBC roll out in HD.
Comment by Caufield — July 9, 2007 @ 9:31 am
Shep said it should take about a month.
Comment by JMK24 — July 9, 2007 @ 3:19 pm
Good point 21, Skinnervill being axed is a travesty. And that whole “next” thing is pathetic. I want the big intros, the ott music and the sillyness. THAT is what made shep, not serious the news.

I am glad CNN is going hd as I watch it regularly and I will be getting a hd tv soon. As to whether the other channels are we will have to wait and see.
