Dan Abrams back on TV…

Page Six dishes about MSNBC GM Dan Abrams being back on the air at 9pm…

DAN Abrams is said to be thrilled to be back on the air at 9 p.m. at MSNBC, where he’s also the general manager running the cable channel. With Joe Scarborough doing the morning time slot vacated by Don Imus, “Scarborough Country” has been put on hiatus, and the 9 p.m. slot is now “Live with Dan Abrams.” “He’s having a blast,” said a friend of Abrams, who is doing both jobs for now. Asked if Abrams would give up his management duties, an MSNBC spokesman said, “If it becomes permanent, that will have to be discussed.”

  1. Well, duh. Abrams is a camera ham who wants face time.

  2. I saw the taped program before ‘First Look’ this morning… He’s like uhm… Cooper.

  3. I’m shocked that that “rug wearing egomaniac” waited this long to grace us with his knowledge and presence!

  4. I know I’m in the minority here, but I’m glad to see Abrams back on TV. I don’t always agree with him on the issues, but at least he puts forth good rationale for his positions. And he always allows opposing views to be heard (unlike you-know-who).

From what I remember, his previous “Abrams Report” focused mostly on legal matters. Maybe if he branches out more, as he now seems to be doing, ratings will improve.

(I would never abandon H & C for Abrams, however, but they can be seen just a few hours later, at midnight.)

  5. So Dan does wear a rug? I heard that but it’s pretty good and hard to tell. I like they say Scarborough Country is on hiatus because they have no confidence that Morning Joe will be on long term. I like Joe on Scarborough Country but not Morning Joe myself. Dan has lost the authority he had on with Abrams Report - he now speaks in a higher pitch and doesn’t exude confidence like he used to but how could he with the mess he is stuck with at MSNBC.

  6. give up his management duties

Is that the terminology for being demoted at MSNBC? Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t remember Abrams show as being even remotely successful before he got the GM job so what makes him now able to compete with Hannity & Colmes and Larry King now? This is par for the course in terms of Abrams’ brilliant managerial decisions.

  7. Abrams Demoted himself? Affirmative Action at work? Hmm…well good work Dan I guess.

    Comment by Ree — July 10, 2007 @ 11:08 am

  8. He missed being in front of the camera and instead of paying someone else to do it he’s doing it….what a trooper!

  9. ” “Scarborough Country” has been put on hiatus…..”

They aren’t serious about the move. They have left an out for when it fails, which it will and they know it.

The spokesman said they would have something to talk about soon, didn’t think it would be to decide whether Danny is GM. shouldn’t that be decided already ?

    Hmmm - July 10, 2007 @ 11:54 am

  10. I really like Dan Abrams program and am glad he’s back. I wish they would make room for Scarborough in a little later time slot.

  11. No thanks to a Dan Abrams show! Last night I caught a glimpse of it and AGAIN he was showing clips of Bill O’Reilly. I already watched Bill’s show, I don’t need for Dan to put his spin on what Bill was saying.

Dan, It’s just the same old tricks. Look at Keith, it’s getting old.

    Comment by Noelle — July 10, 2007 @ 12:24 pm

  12. Yawn. Maybe if these bozos focused on making their own shows better instead of attacking others, they might get a few more viewers.

When you attack Bill O’Reilly every night, by the 150th time, it gets a little redundant. And pathetic.

    Comment by bigred — July 10, 2007 @ 2:12 pm

  13. Of course you guys are right about him attacking O’Reilly et al. But I’m so used to seeing EVERYONE at MSNBC doing so that I hardly notice anymore.

But isn’t that pathetic - the one thing that each MSNBC program does is the showing of their competitor’s perceived faus pas. It’s pathetic when they have to rely on Fox or others for so much material.

  14. Having Abrams back in front of the camera is merely MSDNC’s comically transparent attempt to save face. They will fire Abrams as GM given MSDNC’s abysmal ratings, but they will allege that Abrams had his hands full in front of the camera, and thus he did not have the time to devote to playing GM. Therefore, they will allege that they were forced to find a replacement GM for Abrams.

    Comment by Tom — July 10, 2007 @ 5:19 pm

  15. Missy — you and I have talked before about being long time Abrams fans. But he just can not get the job done any more, it is hard to watch him.

Mel — When Dan came on the air just after Imus was fired, he just “WIGGED OUT” and has not been the same since, he acts more like Nancy Grace (to dramatic), leaning into the camera, etc. Anyway you said it just right — “DAN DOESN’T EXUDE CONFIDENCE”.

    Comment by Aunt Mary — July 10, 2007 @ 7:34 pm

  16. See O’Reilly is so Awesome!!!! it takes two MSNBC shows to attack him…I guess thats the real reason Abrams sent Scarborough to the morning slot…he just wasn’t bashing Bill enough. :)

  17. Speaking of BOR, did anybody noticed how lathered up he got trying to get Miss NJ to tell him EXACTLY what those photos of her contained?

He cracks me up, the pervert!

    Comment by bill — July 10, 2007 @ 8:27 pm

  18. bill — I had a group of friends over and O’Reilly was playing in the background. Someone turned it up and everyone saw it as “O’Reilly just trying to pin point just what the big deal is with the photos. Miss NJ was “evading the questions” — she made it appear that there was a great deal more to the story than she was saying. O’Reilly was asking her questions to get some clarity.

  19. The following article, below the Abrams’ piece, about Kimberely Guilfoyle, is interesting. It says that she and her new husband, a furniture magnate, recently sold their house for nearly a million dollar profit, after owning it a just little more than a year. It says that the newlyweds now live in an apartment on Columbus Circle (seriously big time, at the corner of Central Park W.& S.). I find it interesting that Kimberly is really taking New York by storm.

    Comment by Objective Analyst — July 10, 2007 @ 9:29 pm

  20. BOR lives in a glass house and he doesn’t need to be throwing stones. He is such an easy target. He seems to be attacking CNN more than MSNBC is attacking him.

    Comment by Ladyone — July 10, 2007 @ 9:53 pm

  21. OA, I find it hard to believe that Kimberly could have been married to Gavin Newsom. She is so clearly on the side of the law in her commentary, yet Newsom often seems just the opposite - most notably, when he ignored law and performed those same sex marriages a few years back. And it seems he’s always in some type of controversy as of late.

And bill, Glenn Beck is on right now, and he, too, is questioning Miss NJ’s story. If they’re not vulgar or anything else O’Reilly asked about, why is she so afraid of the pictures being revealed? As Aunt Mary states, he was just trying to get clarity.

Ladyone, who is he going after at CNN? He’s mentioned Larry King and his softball questioning techniques, but that’s about it.

    Comment by Missy — July 10, 2007 @ 9:55 pm

  22. Yeah Missy, I agree that it does seem a little odd as Newsom is the liberal mayor of SF…Kimberly comes off as a law and order conservative. However, I suspect Kimberly has a pretty wild side. I read a while back that she was formerly a Victoria’s Secret’s model. Also, there a few high profile couples who are polar opposites politically, who seem to have strong relationships, i.e. Mickey Sherman-Lis Weihl, James Carville-Mary Matlin.

    Comment by Objective Analyst — July 10, 2007 @ 10:26 pm

  23. I know I exaggerated a bit with BOR’s questioning of Miss NJ. making a point with humor. I just think with his, ummm, background in sexual harrassment, it always amuses me when he gets good looking women on his set and asks them questions about sexual stuff.

    Hey, he’s a great interviewer and commentator….but he’s still a perv.

    Comment by bill — July 11, 2007 @ 12:07 am

  24. I liked Dan Abrams on his previous show. But now, he’s belligerant to guests, he keeps them focused on a tiny part of a story just to promote an argument instead of focusing on the whole story. Monday night he repeated quoted the National Enquirer as a news source! Is he really supposed to be a journalist??? Even the pro wrestler commentator called him on that. Jeez, is he trying to be O’Reilly?

    Comment by Jeri — July 11, 2007 @ 3:33 pm

  25. Thank God Dan is back. He is by far the most interesting compelling host/commentator on MSNBC (Keith is great too). Hopefully, he can balance his management duties with his on-air time.
