Wednesday’s Numbers…
The mosquitos were out last night because there was some scratching going on. Morning Joe scratched in the Demo. Prime News and Mad Money scratched in the Demo at 6pm. It was actually a double scratch for Mad Money because it scratched in the Demo during both the 6pm and 11pm airings. Mad Money also scratched in Total Viewers at 11pm. Countdown Minus Keith Olbermann came in fourth in the Demo.

Morning Joe’s ratings have been terrible this week. Looking back at February and March ‘07, Joe’s numbers have been significantly lower than Imus. Also, considerably lower than American Morning with the O’Briens.
Comment by Objective Analyst — July 12, 2007 @ 5:25 pm
Well Morning Shmoe’s numbers are no surprise really…interesting that LKL actually LOST demo viewers from Paula Zahn Now, and that was despite the fact that Larry had the Harry Potter kid on…AC360 minus AC also did quite well, building on it’s demo lead-in. Sloppy night overall I guess.
Comment by Anonymous — July 12, 2007 @ 5:38 pm
come on HMM.. where are your negative joe comments? Really.. good thing none of you actually make decisions in TV– ever hear of giving a show a chance to build an audience? It hasnt even officially been made permanent.. (or did i miss something?) I happen to like Morning Joe, but I may be the only one on this blog… Imus was on for 10 years and didnt get good numbers until the last couple of years. Give it a chance!!!
Comment by frank — July 12, 2007 @ 5:44 pm
HLN #’s have not been as good as they were two weeks ago when Nancy Disgrace was eating up all the tabloid murder stories. GB hasn’t been doing that great either.
Comment by Peoplepeople — July 12, 2007 @ 5:52 pm
Frank: Joe didn’t do all that well on his 9PM show so putting him on the morning wouldn’t make that much difference. Plus, MSDNC needs to expand their views to include other opinions beside the DNC view.
Comment by Alix — July 12, 2007 @ 5:57 pm
Erica Hill has been out all week.
Comment by Terance — July 12, 2007 @ 6:02 pm
OK, I know it was only yesterday, but what was going on that got Fox and Friends 924 mil. viewers? I don’t recall ever seeing it that high before.
Comment by jerziegrl — July 12, 2007 @ 6:06 pm
jerzie girl, you are so stupid. Its 928 thousand, not million.
Comment by JMK24 — July 12, 2007 @ 6:19 pm
Frank,
I too like Morning Joe but not as much as Imus. It has a bit of an edge which is better than most morning crap.
However, most of the peeps on this board don’t like him merely because he is Republican who doesn’t pucker up to the party like a good hack should.
Comment by elmonica — July 12, 2007 @ 6:21 pm
LOL @924 million…though i’m sure it was just a mistake.
Anyways, that number IS pretty high — the only higher figure I recall is when they hit the 1,000,000 mark one morning a few weeks back.
Comment by Anonymous — July 12, 2007 @ 6:28 pm
elmonica, Tell me what you think about Joe Lieberman? He a Democrat who doesn’t pucker up to the party like a good hack should.
Comment by Lurker — July 12, 2007 @ 6:55 pm
Lurker darling,
To my knowledge, Liebermann is an Independent who doesn’t have a television show. If he did have a show, I doubt I would watch it because I find him dry and humourless.
Comment by elmonica — July 12, 2007 @ 7:07 pm
Jerziegrl, We knew what you meant.:)
Good numbers for Fox and Friends. I wonder when E.D Hill was on F&F, what the numbers were? Were they over 1 million more often then not?
Comment by Noelle — July 12, 2007 @ 7:10 pm
Hahaha, Yea Lieberman had to become an Independant because his party stabbed him in the back so don’t lecture anybody about RINO Joe. All you need to know about Joe is that Hillary called in to have a chat with him. So you like Joe because he’s not Republican hack so you must also like Lieberman, right?
Comment by Lurker — July 12, 2007 @ 7:29 pm

Imus fans don’t hate Joe Scarborough but MSNBC. Imus should never have been fired, period. Having said that, the problem with Joe’s show, and I’ll admit to watching a few times, is it’s just not very good and I actually like Joe. I feel sorry for him with those two nobodys with him. Imus had a great crew (Rob and Larry were brilliant). The show will not ever get the ratings of Imus. Most of you don’t seem to realize how many of us watched Imus and left the house and listened on the radio and online (over 2 million listened to him on the radio). I don’t know many people who actually watch TV until 9 am. MSNBC has lost most of us permanently.

The problem with Morning Joe is it sucks! I have nothing against Joe but he’s just not entertaining for 3 hours. I have given up on morning tv and will wait for Imus to return.

Hey people–can we try and keep it civil on this board and not insult one another so overtly? Disagreement is fine, great, wonderful but personal insults are just not cool. We’re better than that here aren’t we?
Comment by Alison — July 12, 2007 @ 10:54 pm
FOURTH place out of FIVE for Keith “Second Place” Olbermann in the critical, all important, much loved, key demo? Can we get one of the dozens of newspapers who have written bogus but glowing tributes to Olbermann claiming that Olbermann was especially “popular” among “younger” viewers to issue an accurate report on Olbermann’s “popularity”, please?
Comment by Tom — July 13, 2007 @ 12:13 am
I knew if I read far enough down, I’d see another dig at Olbermann’s ratings. Tom you just can’t wait for your next chance to trash him again, can you? The FACT is that Keith leads his own network almost every night of every week, and usually by a lot.
Comment by Mike — July 13, 2007 @ 12:32 am
“The FACT is that Keith leads his own network almost every night of every week, and usually by a lot”
You know being that network is MSNBC thats not saying much…”Ohh I have the highest ratings on the lowest rated cable news network which means I only get beat 2 to one by everyone else.” :)

Comment by elmonica — July 13, 2007 @ 1:19 am
It’s easy to be number one on your network when you get 4 viewers and your the show before you gets 1.
Comment by Edward Schatz — July 13, 2007 @ 1:40 am
To those who think 360s numbers were not as good with a sub on Wednesday night, look at this:
Mon 10 total 499 key 148 11 total 467 key 173
Tues 10 total 769 key 217 11 total 440 key 182
Wed 10 total 679 key 232 11 total 453 key 228
Compared to Monday when Anderson was IN with a REPEAT in the second hour it’s higher with a sub AND the key demo BOTH hours on Wednesday are higher than with Anderson IN, so anyone stupid enough to say that “the sub is never higher than Anderson’s numbers” needs to stop lying. If the fans don’t like it when numbers are selected to show that his numbers aren’t as high as Aaron Browns or a sub then they can’t pick and choose numbers to suit themselves to say that the sub is lower when they AREN’T.
Oh and Anderson said on the show tonight (Thursday) that they have “thousands” of entries for the debate, if you go to the YouTube site they only have 660 something entries, which isn’t “thousands”. I hate lying.
Comment by Mary Snow — July 13, 2007 @ 4:31 am
Just to point out - it seems that MSNBC has dropped Tucker from the 4pm slot and is sticking to a live broadcast at 6pm, although with the ratings I don’t know how much longer that will last until he is either shuffled around again with another timeslot or dumped altogether.
It should be somewhat interesting to see what changes MSNBC makes after Labor Day, as any progress in the ratings they were making has hit a wall. Come September the overall viewership for cable news should see a spike as people start to tune into the Presidential primary race and MSNBC will be making a big push to get in on the claim of having the best political coverage (although that catch phrase is owned by CNN).
Dan Abrams is going to have to do something if MSNBC is going to at least maintain their current rankings. As things stand now, they risk continuing to falter in ratings.
Comment by FishOil — July 13, 2007 @ 5:02 am

“Dan Abrams is going to have to do something…………”
Not to worry, the Punk and the Msnbc spokesman keep saying, “pretty soon we will have something to talk about…………..” Good one eh?
One other thing, it is getting pretty tiresome, every time the “super anchor” Ms Brezinski READS the news and she says oh wait I didn’t read this one yet or sorry folks I missed that or Im gonna have to review that one. She makes the decision on what goes to air around there? Thought that was Danny boy’s job ?

Frank: Give Morning Joe a chance? Not me. These “extremely intelligent” executives took a successful show with thousands of dedicated fans off air in a matter of days and replaced it with this dull program. Even I can see this made no business sense at all. The only chance it has is continue to barely hang on or go down in ratings.

Sorry, Joe, You are just not what I need in the morning. I’m sorry MessNBC made an error in judgment by dumping Imus. Next time, look at what your viewers want. As for me, I no longer am one of those. I won’t be dumped on twice. I’ll be where the I-Man is.

what MSNBC did is not a violation of IMUS’s free speech, since no one has a constitutional right to the airwaves. He wasn’t the first guy fired from a job and he wont be the last. Was it a violation of free speech when Slim fast fired whoopy- no. was it free speech violation when espn fired rush limbaugh- no. Was it free speech violation when ABc fired Bill maher- no. Get over it what happened to IMUS was IMUS’s fault and no one elses. His numbers weren’t that good anyway.

Hey Objective Analyst, just wanted to let you know the O’Brien’s haven’t been on American Morning for a long time.
In regards to Morning Joe, I’m kinda like the show. I think they need to dump John Ridley and replace him with Willie Geist to add some humor. Mika’s fine, unless you bring in someone like Monica, Amy or Contessa. All 3 are very smart and not too hard to look at either.
The other sad commentary is that when you add all of the numbers up for the 5 cable news channels, they still can’t come close to such high level programs such as WWE, Smarter than a 5th Grader, America’s got Talent, Big Brother, Hell’s Kitchen…pretty sad commentary to today’s viewers.
