The hazards of Live TV: #24,887
More lower third troubles. FTVLive has a screen grab from yesterday’s Alberto Gonzales testimony where Republican Senator Arlen Specter was misidentified as a Democrat by FNC. Instead of the (R) after his name, there was a (D).
You’d think FNC would be more vigilant regarding this sort of error after the Mark Foley incident last year.

At what point do you say “mislabeling party affiliation” is deliberate? Does anyone want to fill me in on the circumstances? Ya know, like what exactly Specter was SAYING while being misidentified? I believe that would clear this up rather quickly.

I don’t know who is writing the crawls at FNC now.
But I have seen so many errors recently in syntax and semantics and simple rules of grammar.
Pathetic!

Well, he isn’t known as “Specter the Defector” for nothing. Maybe a Freudian slip? lol

“I don’t know who is writing the crawls at FNC now.”
Probably the guy who got fired from crawl writing at CNN. ;)

Should have read RINO (Republican in name only)

Cella: Ditto.
I also noticed that they got the date of Lindsay Lohan’s arrest wrong on their graphics (7/24/07 not 7/19/07).

They fixed the typo for the re-air, if it was intentional they would not have fixed it..

Like KO said it’s “Fox Noise” and not a credible news channel.

“They fixed the typo for the re-air, if it was intentional they would not have fixed it..”
It’s not a typo. A typo would be putting ‘Reo’ for ‘Rep’. It’s a psychological indicator of FNC mindset. The easiest way for a member of the GOP to switch parties these days, at least on Fox, is to be caught cheating on his wife, chasing boys or criticizing the administration.

What ever became of “little boy blew”, Mark Foley?
Comment by Roger C. — July 26, 2007 @ 12:47 pm
If there’s anyone who seriously thinks this is an ‘accident’, please point me to an equal number of Dems erroneously labelled (R). Or a Rep who’s doing something praiseworthy being mislabelled with a D.
Can’t find one, can you? I didn’t think so.
Comment by Arthur — July 26, 2007 @ 1:02 pm
You people are insane. MSNBC makes the same mistakes, but since nobody watches them, nobody notices. Also, how can you seriously say that they are bring unfair since they don’t screw up equally on both sides? That is so stupid, I’m almost thinking your joking.
Comment by Nobody — July 26, 2007 @ 1:11 pm
Wasn’t it MSNBC that accidentally added an extra “g” to the first name of CORE spokesman Niger Innis?
As little use and respect that I have for MSNBC, I never for one minute thought they meant to call him a “n-word.”
Comment by Amused — July 26, 2007 @ 1:24 pm
And what about CNN putting that big X over Cheney’s face?

“Also, how can you seriously say that they are bring unfair since they don’t screw up equally on both sides? ”
I’m not saying it’s UNFAIR that they’re not screwing up equally on both sides, I’m saying it’s not an ACCIDENT because they don’t screw up equally on both sides.
Accidents are uniformly distributed. ‘Freudian’ slips are not.
“MSNBC makes the same mistakes, but since nobody watches them, nobody notices.”
Ahem. Ho-paux?
Comment by Arthur — July 26, 2007 @ 2:14 pm
So wait… who was this one insulting to? Specter? The Democrats? The Republicans?
Comment by ImNotBlue — July 26, 2007 @ 2:40 pm
Hey Spud, just a thought… could you perhaps make a new searchable category for “On-Air Errors.” That way when things like this happen… no matter what the network… we can more easily see who’s screwing up.
Comment by ImNotBlue — July 26, 2007 @ 2:42 pm
Apparently nobody watches Abrams Live or they’d have seen a great blooper when Don Imus’ face popped up with him sticking his tongue out with the caption about honkies when he was doing a segment on the murders in CT last night. Do we know if Dan did this on purpose?
Comment by Melanie — July 26, 2007 @ 3:00 pm
“Do we know if Dan did this on purpose?”
Interrupting a segment on some gristly murders with graphics for comic relief? Only if he WANTS to be a clown.
Comment by Arthur — July 26, 2007 @ 3:01 pm
Arthur - it was obviously a bad joke or someone trying to mess with Dan. Give me a reason to watch tonight!
Comment by Melanie — July 26, 2007 @ 3:43 pm
Yeah, Melanie, but a bad joke in the middle of a story about a family where all the women were raped and then murdered? Kind of tasteless, don’t you think?
Comment by Arthur — July 26, 2007 @ 5:55 pm
Of course, it’s an awful story so why did they do it?
Comment by Melanie — July 26, 2007 @ 8:14 pm
Special Report viewers know Arlen Specter is an R. What would saying he is a D accomplish? Nothing, It was not a big deal.
