Dual chopper crash while following police chase…
FNC was first with the news of the Phoenix chopper crash this afternoon during Studio B with Shepard Smith. FNC’s live footage of the crash was provided by KSAZ, the local FOX affiliate of Phoenix.
Smith: I am 100% sure there are young men and women sitting in newsrooms across this nation, many of whom, just like me, have been in these choppers, and following in Orlando on Interstate 4 or Los Angeles on the 405, and knowing how difficult this is, and what a treacherous position you can be in, and then to watch your colleagues from across town, your friends and your neighbors across town, two choppers down in flames in Phoenix. This will be part of our coverage tonight. Our thoughts and prayers are with our good friends in the Valley of the Sun this afternoon.

Maybe this will put the kabosh on this nonsense. I thought they had quit it since they dont put in on the majors to much anymore. The police should stop chasing altogether unless its a murder or kidnapping etc.
Should forbid new orgs even owning a helicopter in major cities where there will be a whole bunch of the vultures flying around in conjunction with law enforcement choppers. Ground them all…maybe some of the families will sue and put the station out of business hopefully.

Car Chases are very popular with the public, they are just so interesting and entertaining to watch. I love it when they come on Fox and hope they carry on to show them despite this tragic accident and in memory of those who died.
Journalists die in Iraq…show we stop going there?

Journalists die in car crashes too trying to get to a story, should we make them use bicycles instead? Wait, people die riding bikes too, I guess we should just make them walk?

LOL… War in Iraq and car chases are not the same. This is not a war… this is the brainless television. Blame all 5 stations. Educate the people: car chases ARE NOT breaking news.
In a year the guy who stolen the car will be free watching a movie in the tv and the stations in Phoenix will be breaking about another car chase.
Its the same covering the hurricanes. Only a stupid can go out and make a live report in the middle of the wind and the rain.

I agree news helicopters shouldn’t be following these car chases. They are a danger to themselves, the police choppers and to the general public. What if these helicopters fell into a densely populated area?
At the very least they should come up with an agreement to use a single pool helicopter in such situations.
