News Corp./Dow Jones: Dow Jones agrees?

CNBC’s David Faber broke news earlier this morning that Dow Jones, via the Bancrofts, was going to be accepting the News Corp. bid… (via FishbowlNY)

“It did come awfully close, in fact, closer than many had anticipated,” Faber said. “But at the end of the day, according to people who were working on this, a number of the Bancrofts who had been somewhat vocal in their opposition–Chris Bancroft for example–seemed suddenly at the realization that they were going to have to pay all these banking fees said ‘Wait a second. Hey, if you pay my fees, I’ll give you my vote.’ And that may have turned it.”

  1. Chickadee…do you work for Fox or something? Your constant “pumping” of this deal and the upcoming network is sickening…

  2. Still… you gotta love CNBC breaking the news that it’s about to become second banana even faster than originally anticipated.

  3. I had predicted from the start this was going to be a done deal. The Bancrofts realized there was nothing that would ever match the offer from Murdoch. Good for the News Corporation, which now can incorporate the talents from Dow Jones into its upcoming Fox Business Network.

Paul Krugman from the NY Times must be apoplectic from this news. Good for him, too. Maybe he needs a sedative to calm him down from his feral attacks on Murdoch.

  4. Anonymous, You pump CNN constantly, Do you work for CNN? What’s the difference?

FBN will blow CNBC out of the waters, with or without Dow Jones!

    Comment by Noelle — July 31, 2007 @ 11:16 am

  5. Noelle are you KIDDING ME??!?!?! I only watch CNN like 1 or 2 hours a day, MAX (and after Paula’s gone, probably an hour tops). I probably watch more Fox than CNN. What a joke…

And FBN vs. CNBC — I think you guys are seriously underestimating CNBC, and I don’t understand why. The biggest thing CNBC has is EXPERIENCE, not necessarily in “business news”, but the way it has seen the Fox vs. CNN battle fold out over the past 5 years or so. Do you really think that CNBC/NBCU is going to just sit there and watch Fox Biz eat their lunch? I highly doubt it. CNBC is going to fight, and going to fight HARD.

  6. Now that the “pumpers” have been exposed.. its time to “ramp up” the paltry 30 million subs, eh?

  7. Again Anonymous, You are always “pumping” up CNBC and it is sickening!

    Comment by Noelle — July 31, 2007 @ 11:27 am

  8. OK Noelle…are you a ditz or what? The only reason I singled out Chickadee is because it seems that whenever I see her post, she’s constantly talking about Fox Biz, Fox Biz, Fox Biz…the last time I checked, I’m not always talking about CNBC or CNN, so I suggest you zip it already.

    Comment by Anonymous — July 31, 2007 @ 11:33 am

  9. Gosh Anonymous, you sure like calling people names. And no, I’m not going to “zip” it because you tell me to. You need to look in the mirror.

    Comment by Noelle — July 31, 2007 @ 11:41 am

  10. LOL trust me Noelle, “zipping” it will be for your own good to prevent you from babbling nonsense jibberish.

And I have the feeling Chickadee = Noelle
Why the heck would you spend so much time defending Chickadee and her opinions…

  11. Mr./Ms. Anonymous: First of all, Spud has never tolerated those who use multiple user names to post comments. Secondly, Anonymous comments also aren’t usually a “done” thing in these parts. Thirdly–over the top personal attacks and telling someone to shut up? Also not cool. But I’m sure Spud will be glad to explain it all to you or will make an example of what he does and does not tolerate at this blog.

  13. People, please! Why don’t we all take a deep breath, sit back and watch what happens. It should be something to see, especially the way Fox has always been agressive. I don’t always agree with them but you have to admit they sure seem to know what works and how to do it.

  14. Want to know what MSNBC really thinks?

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19916213/

Ouch! However this guy doesn’t give one shred of actual evidence for his opinion… only assumptions, guesses, and flat out “I’m-making-this-up”-isms. I wonder if he also does palm readings.

    PS
Gotta love the guy’s by-line photo.

  15. Imnotblue,

That guy looks real happy, are you sure this is a MSNBC story? Dave Sweet, he looks like Glen, from Talladega Nights. “Hold on baby Jesus, this rides gonna get bumpy” Ricky Bobby -Talladega Nights. CNBC needs to take a look in their rearview mirror.

  16. Murdoch has to buy credibility. Just wait he’ll turn the journal into trash just like the ventures he actually gave birth too. They say it won’t happen…but it will.

    Comment by Harry — July 31, 2007 @ 10:42 pm

  17. Thank you, Miss Cleo… I mean, Harry.
