You are right erljr, the Free Rep. guy's line of "IF we see it, we take it down" along with "having monitors for the website costs money" were weak at best. If you are going to man a website such as that you need to also take the responsibility of taking off anything inappropriate.

This isn't a left/right issue. While the leftist websites like Kos and Moveon.org get the most attention because the media (not just BO) seems to like them and pay attention to them, both sides are guilty of this hate speech garbage and BOTH sides have no excuse.

I am not saying we should look to censure free speech, but saying things like Hillary Clinton should be killed by a stray bullet (free republic) and printing indecent cartoons about Joe Lieberman and the Pres. are beyond free speech and should not be allowed.

The guy from the free republic didn't do very well defending his blog last night. It's not hard or costly to set up a program that flags certain words, and puts those comments into a holding bin for review before posting. I believe something like that is done on one of my favorite blogs.
The left-wing and right-wing blogs have no excuse. Sure, certain hate speech can get by once in a while; but if they want to be seen as anything other than hate sites, they need to make a little efort.
