The hazards of Live TV: #24,889
Running with a Reuters’ report that ends up being bogus. The AP’s David Bauder writes about the Reuters report that claimed a rescue mission was underway to free the Korean hostages in Afghanistan…
CNN’s Kiran Chetry, at 8:29 a.m., said that Reuters had reported that a rescue operation had started. Fox News Channel’s Steve Doocy said there were “some wire reports today that the army over there is dropping leaflets on towns saying, you know, you better get out because we are about to launch an operation to try to liberate these people.”

…and Heidi Collins apologized for CNN yesterday. But, no mention of that in the NY Post story, eh.

And what if this bogus story leaked to the Taliban and led to them murdering the hostages?

A classic reuters fake report… Like the popes’ death 24 hours before… or the building collapse in NY (steam explosion 10 minutes later).

Eddiebear, I guess either CNN, Rutgers, or your beloved FNC would be to blame, eh? Well, thats assuming we have proof anyone was killed due to this report… Oh yeah, and we acquire (by water boarding or jumper cables) further evidence of where the Taliban got this information for something that hasn’t happened.

Anyone killed due to this report? By that same reasoning, Letterman, Leno and Stewart have been responsible for hundreds of terorist attacks and hostage taking.
As for Reuters, they’ve done this so many times now, any newspaper that runs their wire reports, and any news organization that reports on any of their wires without another firsthand source, needs to keep that egg on their face for a good long time.

Looking at it, this just make a point of the point that networks should clearly state that “we have not confirmed this story” when they take stories from news wires and don’t do any internal check-over on it, though they may have from other news wires, who knows.

Reuters is completely untrustworthy. Remember the false reports & pictures they kept posting during the Lebanon conflict last year?

I’m inclined to agree with you. It would perhaps save the networks from having to wipe egg off their face and the viewers would know to take it with a grain of salt until truly confirmed.
Speaking of the hazards of live TV…did anyone catch Doocy and F&F’s airing the Faith Hill video (yesterday? or was it Tuesday?). It was the video where a female fan grabbed her husband’s crotch and Hill went off on the fan. Doocy said something about his having cleaned up the video clip but it was aired exactly as it was found all over the internet…with Hill saying the word “balls”. Doocy seemed quite embarrassed (as well he should be) that balls went out over the airwaves especially after he said something about it being edited. I know everyone in our household went “huh?” when we heard it.
