Edwards vs. News Corp…

Broadcasting & Cable’s John Eggerton writes about John Edwards calling for Democratic candidates to refuse/return contributions from News Corp. because it’s acquiring Dow Jones…

A News Corp. spokesman was not available for comment, but Brit Hume reported on the Edwards’ statement during FNC’s Special Report Thursday night.

Hume quoted Edwards as saying “the time has come to stop pretending we’re friends with the very people who demonize the Democratic party.” Hume said it appeared to be a jab at Hillary Clinton, who he said had received more than $20,000 from News Corp. executives. According to OpenSecrets.org, Clinton has also received $78,650 from News Corp., one of her top 20 donors.

Hume went on to say that no candidate had received as much money as Edwards. He pointed to the $500,000 advance and $300,000 in expenses News Corp. says it paid Edwards, though its Harper Collins subsidiary, for his book, Home, which was published last fall.

  1. John Edwards is a crook, being in government, maybe he should put an end to lobbying for votes in congress all together… outlaw it… groups like the NRA would really suffer, but the government should be run by the people, not by corporations.

Elections should also be reformed, it should not cost so much to run for president. There are so many bright people in this country, everyone should get a fair chance, and most of them would do better than what we have right now.

  2. See, that’s just Hume being biased… remembering facts and pointing out hypocrisy… THERE IS NO PLACE FOR THAT KIND OF TRUTH IN THE NEWS MEDIA!

    …unless it’s about the Republicans… then it’s okay.

Go get another haircut, John… the adults are talking.

  3. “The Edward’s campaign said that all the proceeds from the book went to charity”.

It is always amusing when the rich and famous throw out that line, like they gained nothing. Right, after travel and haircut expenses for the book tour, in which maybe a little campaigning just might have been in order. Very little ends up in that “proceeds” check when much is used as expenses!

    He is such a joke!

  4. Edwards is such a big cry baby and a coward and a fool. And
    those are his good points.

  5. I voted for Edwards in the primaries in 2004. I voted for him again in the general election but boy, his sharp turn to the far left in’08 has turned me off in a big way. He’s pandering to the radical extremists in the party somehow thinking that will help him win. BIG mistake. And his poll numbers reflect that.

  6. Maybe he can get his wife to stand up to Murdoch. She seems to be the boss in the Edwards family.

  7. This goes right along with Edwards charging $10,000 to talk about poverty. It is pathetic and hypocritical, but that seems to be the resounding theme of Edwards these days. He is a coward who doesn’t have the cajones to stand on his own covictions, but simply thinks that if he coat tails Kos and Moveon he will get ahead.

Newsbusters has a good posting about what Moring Joe had to stay about it:

  8. What a hypocrite. The more Edwards talks, the more he exposes himself as a glib but opportunistic candidate. His record as a trial lawyer, where he collected millions from hospitals and doctors, is notable for his use of pseudo-science. It’s no wonder his standing in the polls has been downward and stagnant, having been exposed as a narcissist more than a leader who can provide this nation with serious leadership.

And who is Edwards to question the sale of Dow Jones to the highest bidder? That’s how our system works, and he should be shutting his damn mouth. Nobody ever questioned how much he collected for his legal fees except the doctors and hospitals that he victimized with his devious methods.

He ought to take a break and enjoy that vast estate he built in North Carolina and stop talking about fighting poverty. He sounds as mendacious as somebody most of us know.

  9. Somehow I find populist rhetoric from a multi-millionaire laughable. I wonder where he stands on tort reform?
