The Situation Room’s Second Anniversary
CNN is noting the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer’s second anniversary…
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer celebrates the second birthday of his three-hour weekday program, The Situation Room, today. It’s appointment television for political junkies, and it trounces MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews every time it airs and often beats Fox News.
In recent months, Blitzer has interviewed Vice President Cheney, Afghan President Hamid Karzai, and top U.S. Senators. He also moderated two highly rated back-to-back presidential debates that drew all the Republican and Democratic candidates in New Hampshire. In 2006, Blitzer anchored CNN’s election night coverage, which blew away the competition, ranking #1 in total day and prime time in P25-54.
Despite his rep for doing hard news—and a schedule that requires him to be on air live 17 hours each week—Blitzer likes to have a little fun, too. “The Situation Room” is regularly parodied on SNL (see: here and here) and written up elsewhere (see: here and here and here), which Blitzer seems to enjoy.

Congrats to Wolf and the whole group of people who make that program possible. In all honesty, it’s a nice alternative to FNC during the afternoon and keeps things flowing usually at a decent rate.
