1/2 Hour News Hour’s future in doubt…

TVNewser has the internal memo from FNC’s Bill Shine announcing that FNC’s 1/2 Hour News Hour won’t air any more episodes after September 16th but left the door open to some furture version of the program coming back at some point, which, honestly, doesn’t sound very promising to me…

  1. The show keeps getting better, but it ends with a Dennis Miller hate speech every week. It’s never good to leave with a bad taste in your mouth. I can never remember any of the bits; just how Miller not only disagrees with Democrats, but hates them.

  2. This is a really funny show. Jennifer Lang is priceless..
The Gutfeld crap is just stupid, not funny. Wish they would get rid of it and keep 1/2 Hour

  3. i like red eye, and thats saying a lot since i hate fox news in general.

i watched the half hour news hour a couple times, and there were a couple laughs, but overall it sucked.

  4. The show doesn’t belong on a news channel! I like the co-hosts though..Perhaps they’ll land a new gig out of it!

  6. Good riddance to trash is right! In all respects, Red Eye at least holds a touch of realistic relevance in it, as small as it is, in that these people make small mentions of current news items that are kind of on the “oddball” end of the relevance spectrum. This show was purely entertainment and that’s not what a news channel needs! Just stick to programming about news stories.

  7. Aren’t they putting the 1/2 Hour News Hour “special” on this Friday night in place of the Factor?

I’m with you guys, I like Red Eye better as far as the lighter programming goes, though it really depends on the guests, if they are smart and witty, it’s great, if they are the bimbo eye candy types (usually “entertainment” reporters and editors), it’s a snoozefest…except the Half-time Report…I’ll admit a lot of nights I just wait around for Andy Levy. I think he’s great.

  8. I don’t get why Fox tried this. Red Eye and 1/2 hour do not belong on cable news stations. It is obvious Fox was trying something new and different with both, but I think it just doesn’t work for a cable news channel.

Red Eye is horrible! I have watched it a couple of times out of desperation for something on at 2 a.m. while battling insomnia, I hate it. Not my cup of tea. I was quite surprised to see that type of show on FNC, it is crude and Greg Gutfield is just a moron.

1/2 hour is pretty funny, but so overly right sided. Apparently, Rush has just finished shooting scenes for it a few days/weeks ago. Again, not what I would like to see on a cable news network, it doesn’t matter what time it is on.

  9. A failure… The program wasnt funny. I mean.. We know that many here are FNC lovers and they eat all that Fox is broadcasting, no matter what they are watching… but, come one… The program was very very BAD.

In red eye we can see a brainless girl calling for kill every muslim in this world and racist and sexist -and brainless also- people who like to watch a porn star in the Cavuto biz show may laugh about it…

but in the non hour non 1/2 non nothing wtf… there wasnt humor.

  10. At least Red Eye is a real show and it is on at 2am EDT.
The 1/2 Hour News Hour is a scripted comedy show and should not be on FNC. Move the show to FOX before Mad TV or on FX.

  11. I started out hating this program, but now it’s my favorite.

Most of you who hate the program hate Fox News anyway, so I don’t know why you care whether it’s on or not. And while Fox gets slammed for devoting a half-hour to this program, MSNBC and CNN vote much more of their time to documentaries. Where’s the outrage?

And why not give conservatives a half hour of comedy per week? Libs have the Daily Show and every other comedy program out there. Why does this mere 30 minutes intimidate the left?

The only lame part of the program, IMO, is “Guy White”. But come to appreicate the rest of the program, especially those spots they do showing what the ACLU has “contributed”. I hope they somehow resurrect this program.

  12. I give Red Eye a pass… Its on late. I watched HHNH, Began to find it funny (Accept Dennis Miller), but believe it should not be on a news channel. I am glad to see it go, although I enjoyed most of it, mostly for the sake of FNC’s credibility as a news org.

  13. As I recall, the Half Hour News Hour was originally pitched to the Fox entertainment network which has had many successful comedies. Fox entertainment turned the show down. (Maybe because they respect the intelligence of their audience a little more than Roger Ailes does his.)

As a last resort the show was tried out on Fox News, in the hope that the drooling, mouth-breathing half-wits who stay glued to Fox News all weekend were a more suitable fit for this colossally lame, outdated, derivative, hokey, moronic, amateurish piece dreck.

  14. Missy, there is a difference between a documentary showing true information and facts about a select event or story and a program scripted so faaaar to the right it’s pure aim for anyone who dislikes Fox News. I mean, it’s weird a network can scream “Fair & Balanced” and then show a “humor” program saying ACLU-sucks, liberals-suck, blah blah blah. It tears down their credibility of actually being seen as a legit news network, I mean, CNN International only rebroadcast clippings of the Daily Show, they didn’t produce it.

Simply put, when and if a news network crosses the line and begins to produce entertainment programming with no, I repeat, no news value, and it shows an obvious bias, it tears down the credibility of that network and the personalities on it. Worse yet, they had Kurt come around to many of the ACTUAL news programs on the network, I mean, you don’t see Jon Stewart coming onto regular news programs and impacting the programming of an actual broadcast. Anyway, it’s sickening and just plain disgusting that FNC crossed that line.

  15. I can’t stand this show. I guess I have watched Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert too much and see this show as a very lame excuse at comedy. Good riddance.

  16. It will move over to FBN after it starts brodcasting on Oct 15.

  17. I didn’t mind the HHNH and its place on Fox…it was on the weekends and clearly stated it was a “comedy” show. I think they were trying too hard to be a counter to The Daily Show and didn’t have decent comedy writers. That and the canned laughter tied into sketches that clearly weren’t at all funny just made for bad t.v.

If they get decent writers they can have something to work with…if they don’t abandon it completely (which the memo seems to suggest).

  18. I’ll be glad to see this show go. It never should have been on Fox News in the first place. On the other hand, Red Eye is an excellent fit for cable news.

There’s a big difference between the two shows. Red Eye is a bunch of bloggers, columnists and comedians sitting around joking about current events, celebrity gossip and oddball news stories. The 1/2 Hour program is a scripted comedy skit show that’s more suited for Comedy Central.

  19. TBDave: It appears that “Red Eye” is in reruns this week. I was wondering when these guys were going to get a vacation.

  20. I still say “If you want some good laughs, watch MESS-NBC”! They are the REAL joke.
