Scarborough trashes Imus…

Eat the Press’ Sklar chronicles the fireworks on Morning Joe this morning as Joe Scarborough teed off on Don Imus…

WOW. Joe Scarborough delivered nothing short of a tour de force this morning on “Morning Joe” once the subject of Don Imus came up. Yes, that would be the very same Don Imus whose morning-show seat Scarborough’s been warming for the past three-plus months since Imus infamous “nappy headed hos” remark in late April, followed by his ignominious ouster. Now Imus has settled his termination dispute with CBS for a reputed $20 million and is free to once again work the airwaves (depending on who will have him) — and Joe had some opinions, which took the form of a hilarious stream-of-consciousness monologue peppered with arch commentary from sidekick Mika Brzezinski, plus a producer nervously talking through Joe’s earpiece telling him to wish Imus all the best. Joe wasn’t having any of that. Slightly edited version below, with our favorite quotes to follow:

  1. What makes Mr. Morning Blow think he “deserves” part of that 20 million?

And he called him Banjo boy? Awwwww…poor baby. He’s in the middle of contract negotations? For the love of god MSNBC, do NOT give this doofus a raise!!

Oh and I could strangle Mika…she’s SO damn annoying.

  2. God…what a sad, pathetic performance….I haven’t seen a lot of support for Don Imus anywhere else on MSNBC, and I certainly don’t recall “Morning Blowhard” stepping up and saying anything substantial…all I hearing now is “I stood up”…”I want part of the money”…..lame.

  7. For months it is like not a word from the Network side of the Imus Firing and now with the law suit being settled with CBS. They all are finally letting it out, they have held it in for along time. Why Mika has anything to say I can’t figure that one out, shouldn’t she be working? What was the $$ on Mika’s contract again.

  9. Morning Joe is a sorry, unwatchable substitute for Imus in the Morning. I used to like Joe Scarborough, and I can’t blame him for taking the position MSNBC offered him, but his show is pathetic and downright painful to watch for more than a very few seconds. Sucking up to Steve Capus is my definition of a coward. Imus will bury that show when he returns to the air and Capus will be sorry he lost his biggest cash cow.

  10. This is absurd. I was watching, and I was impressed because Scarborough came off as DEFENDING Imus (while also saying Capus had no choice, o which I disagree). He was honest, in that he doesn’t think Imus liked him, but he mainly talked about how foolish Imus’s critics are and about how the lawsuit against him was baseless. If Imus taught us anything, it was to view things that air in context. I hope that whole segment (it might have been a few segments) goes up on youtube.

  11. Like Steve, I don’t see any trashing of Imus there??

    Comment by Mr A — August 16, 2007 @ 1:14 am

  12. True….very little trashing of The I-Man here….what’s lame, pathetic, and unwatchable {unless you stumble upon a short clip} was “Morning Snooze”’s whining about Imus not liking him…..

    1) Who the $%#@! cares if they like one another? and…
    2) Imus didn’t really like ANYONE at MSNBC…which, if we look at the ratings subjectively, is the American cable news viewing public’s assessment, too….

It just rankles me that someone who actually got himself elected to Congress thinks telling us about his seemingly-unrecorded support of Imus despite being called some names is either enlightening or entertaining…and he gets paid for this??!!.

I mean, lots of people get up early in the wee hours, go to work, and PRODUCE SOMETHING of value…apparently, not at MSNBC…anymore.

  13. Jealous…really jealous.

  14. I don’t have a problem with Mika getting Joe’s coffee, while she is at, she can get me some too.

Imus led off the morning, when he would make references like Banjo Boy, it was a cue to his audience, watch him at least for entertainment value. When he would talk up someone that day, the cue was watch, this has something I found interesting it may be informative. If he said, this is totally unwatchable…well somebody had tee’d him off that day. The bottom line he was cuing up his audience to watch MSNBC for the rest of the day. They had a professional in a good time slot, Imus has been doing this, since the earth cooled. Imus made a mis-step lost his footing and instead of helping him back up, they all piled on him. Is there any grown ups working at MSNBC?

Note to Joe, Bama fans are not this dense, this is how you would expect an Auburn fan to sound. Mika, one sugar and cream.

  15. I didn’t see Joe as slamming Imus at all. I thought he was actually going after the Rutgers player who filed the lawsuit.

  16. Great article. This will be the take down to end all take take downs Brother Joe. Soon 4th place will look like up to Mourning Joe!
