  1. What’s going on with Morning Joe’s ratings? They seem to fluctuate a lot.

    Comment by Christopher — August 17, 2007 @ 6:52 pm

  2. I wonder if Greta will blog about getting trounced in the key demo by none other than AC360? See, this is the kind of insight I would like to hear.

    Comment by Terance — August 17, 2007 @ 7:01 pm

  3. Morning Joe is not so good right now because for the past few days its just been Joe and Mika. EEK!

    Comment by JMK24 — August 17, 2007 @ 7:10 pm

  4. Even with breaking news, people still run to FOX and CNN. I’m sure Dan will send a congratulation memo soon.

    Comment by Alix — August 17, 2007 @ 7:10 pm

  5. What’s going on with Morning Joe’s ratings? They seem to fluctuate a lot.

With 37,000 in the demo, “disappear” would be the appropos word.

    Comment by Ira — August 17, 2007 @ 7:43 pm

  6. I wonder if Ms. Mary Snow is going to YELL at us again for AC’s very high demo figures….unless she’s already had a stroke after reading the numbers.

And for the record Ms. Snow (since I know you’ll be sticking your nose in here)…I did NOT say that the ratings came because of “breaking news” last week — you completely took my words out of context. What I said was that the REASON why Soledad got such good numbers WAS because of the breaking news. On a “regular” news day, there is NO doubt that she would have pulled in slightly less than what AC normally does. I strongly believe that if AC was not anchoring the past 2 nights of his program, CNN would have NOT seen as high a number they did. It would have been good, but not AS good. And I’m sticking to that. If your hero/lover/father of your child Aaron Brown had been here, he would have *drove* CNN viewers away with his dramatic pauses and “philosophical” remakrs. So please, keep my name out of your drunken ramblings in the future, ok?

    Comment by Anonymous — August 17, 2007 @ 7:44 pm

  7. So now we’re bashing Aaron Brown? Didn’t CNN just hire another person with the surname “Brown” to replace him?

AC did great last night by the way. This kind of story is what he does best. And this time, for once, he did this type of story from the studio. He was cool, calm, collected, and organized! And he got rid of the uhs and ums. I was impressed. CNN had the best coverage last night.

  8. The ratings for American Morning have improved quite a bit with Marciano co-hosting with Chet. These two act like they really adore each other. Maybe Roberts won’t have a spot when he gets back.

  9. dang. loook at ac’s numbers. doing kinda good there i’d say. And tv newser has the overnight rating in which CNN beat fox in demo AND p2.

    Comment by Me — August 17, 2007 @ 8:42 pm

  10. Wow Anony is angry at being called what she is and has to resort to name calling. Now that wasn’t fair was it CoopedUp, was it? Your sticking your nose in here so why say that about someone else.

The numbers would have been the same the last 2 nights no matter WHO WAS ANCHORING, JUST LIKE LAST WEEK WHEN SOLEDAD GOT HIGH NUMBERS when she filled in.

Not sure what your problem is here Anony but maybe you should go back to your fan group silly school girl nonsense and leave these people who seem to know MORE about news and ratings than YOU do alone. BTW, we can read what you write over there and drunken ramblings doesn’t begin to describe it.

Why do you think anyone is having a stroke? You mention that all the time and then you go on a angry name-calling rant here. You appear to be having some sort of mental problem because your little dream lover (and it’s only going to be a dream for you) isn’t doing as well as he should be.

IT’S ONLY BECAUSE OF BREAKING NEWS NOT THE ANCHOR! that’s what you said, and I’m sticking to it.

Get back on your meds girl and go post something else about Anderson’s underwear where the others will appreciate it.

If you want me to leave you out in future, don’t say something stupid.

  11. Kiran’s interview this morning with the Gov. of Utah was
extraordinary. She is no longer a star in the making, she has arrived; she’s a true pro. Step aside JR.

    Congrats, Kiran!

    Comment by A.M. — August 17, 2007 @ 8:52 pm

  12. Errr…Mary Snow, I don’t belong to ANY fan groups, not for AC, not for ANYONE…I don’t know where you got that from. As for the “name calling”, you make it sound like I’m here USING CAPS single day yelling at people and belittling them, when in reality the only person I have to call names is you, because calling you “nutty” or “insane” obviously doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface when it comes to describing your insanity. And as for the ratings, you’re a goof if you don’t think that another anchor would have been able to get the *same* ratings as AC did last night. You make it sound like I’m the only one who likes AC, when in reality on an average night he does better than Mr. Dreamboat Aaron Brown ever got on an average night. He got good reviews for his anchoring skills last night, including some on this blog alone. Oh Mary, Mary…I’m gonna have to call the looney bin you’re staying at and tell them to limit your internet access…

For the record, here is my original comment I posted regarding the “BREAKING NEWS RATINGS” jibberish last Friday:

    >> Soledad had good numbers, can’t she be a star? Oh right, she got demoted.

Comment by Mary Snow — August 13, 2007

    >> Well to be fair Ms. Mary Snow, Soledad was covering “breaking news” (10pm - the mine, and 11-11:10pm news was about the potential terror plot).

    Comment by Anonymous — August 13, 2007

From those THREE lines, you extrapolated a whole new story about where I stand. I said it once, and I’ll say it again. Soledad only got good numbers because there was BREAKING NEWS. Without the BN, she would NOT have done as well as Anderson Cooper does on a normal night. This is my opinion, and I don’t know why you keep twisting my words.

And btw, the same night, you said:

    >> So it has to do with “breaking news” not the anchor then, remember that the next time Anderson’s numbers suck when he’s doing “breaking news”.

Yet, here we are, breaking news — and AC is sweeping the demo.

  14. I sense deep anguish from you people over Keith getting 2nd place in the demo. Hopefully Nancy had a sleazy crime story tonight to pull over some of the Fox viewers because a full week is too much to take.

By the way Melanie Morgan got worst person tonight. What a vile, horrid woman she is and a perfect fit for Fox News.

    Congrats, Kiran!

  16. Wow, a lot of old people do watch BO for real 2.1 million viewers with 321K demo number, while AC360 1.5 million views and 602K key demo.

    Comment by chi — August 17, 2007 @ 9:57 pm

  17. A.M., Kiran is getting much better in her interviewing. She can do hard news and do it very well. I wonder if Cnn will let her do more investigative reporting or issue oriented stories. I always had a feeling that there was a very strongly pro-choice side of Kiran that wasn’t allowed to be shown on FOX and wonder if more of that would come out now that she is at Cnn. She don’t have to deal with Napolitano anymore!

    Comment by california dreamin — August 17, 2007 @ 10:24 pm

  18. I really haven’t been following the Mary Snow comments as some of you do, but “Anonymous”, you really can’t accuse her of using your name in “drunken ramblings”, because you’re ANONYMOUS!!! If you’re going to stick around, just use your dog’s/cat’s/neighbor’s name or something so we don’t confuse you with others who use that tag.

And elmonica, now what did poor Melanie do to warrant Keith’s ire?

    Comment by Missy — August 17, 2007 @ 10:30 pm

  19. you really can’t accuse her of using your name in “drunken ramblings”, because you’re ANONYMOUS!!!

Missy, I believe “Anonymous” is the person’s ‘handle’ on this board. I admit he/she would be well advised to pick a less ambiguous one.

Speaking of handles, I wonder if CNN’s Mary Snow knows some looneybird is using her name here? Maybe someone should tell her?

    Comment by Arthur — August 17, 2007 @ 11:16 pm

  20. By the way Melanie Morgan got worst person tonight. What a vile, horrid woman she is and a perfect fit for Fox News.

Elmonica: Yeah, this “horrid” woman who has gone a zillion extra miles in supporting the troops.

Certainly not your kind of lady, El!

  21. I always had a feeling that there was a very strongly pro-choice side of Kiran that wasn’t allowed to be shown on FOX and wonder if more of that would come out now that she is at Cnn. She don’t have to deal with Napolitano anymore!

Cali: Yeah, I guess Chetry know longer has to worry about Napolitano and those other mean conservatives on Fox taking away her “reproductive rights.”

    Comment by Ira — August 17, 2007 @ 11:38 pm

  22. Ira,
She is a war enabler. Supporting the troops and enabling their deaths is a contradiction in terms and is a little like Charles Manson contributing to a victim rights fund. Hijacking the concept of patriotism with slogans and cheap rhetoric is one of the calling cards of the Fox News collective.

Missy, Melanie falsely stated a National Guard reservist was violating his code of conduct by being political. Tell that to Lindsey Graham why don’t you Melanie.

    Comment by elmonica — August 17, 2007 @ 11:52 pm

  23. Cali: Yeah, I guess Chetry know longer has to worry about Napolitano and those other mean conservatives on Fox taking away her “reproductive rights.”
Hey Ira: Kiran has exercised her reproductive rights with her husband to produce a beautiful little girl. There has never been any evidence that Kiran is pro abortion. Only the speculation of those that don’t like her.

    Comment by earl fenton — August 18, 2007 @ 1:18 am

  24. the lack of msnbc talent besides olbermann really shows with late night coverage of a breaking story. they dont have a “go to anchor” like cnn and fox do (anderson cooper and shep smith respectively) and it really hurts them IMHO.

Comment by Chris (My Two Sense) — August 18, 2007 @ 2:39 am

  25. Missy: Melanie Morgan has led active campaigns to get our soldiers coffee, other foods and toiletries among other things. Only a kool-aid drinker such as Elmonica would describe such endeavors to “enabling their deaths.”

Earl: I have no problem with Kiran Chetry. Just wanted to answer another ridiculous comment on this thread.

    Comment by Ira — August 18, 2007 @ 1:10 pm

  26. Ira,
Only a loofah licking, falafel fondling patriot such as yourself dismisses weekly hateful comments by right wing hacks because she gives milk and cookies to the troops.

One of her typical Fox viewer pleasing comments about this same National Guard reservist exercising his free speech against the war was the following:

“He needs to be stomped on and neutralized”

    Comment by elmonica — August 18, 2007 @ 4:36 pm

  27. In regards to the comments above regarding Kiran and abortion, I suggest you people read this recent blog post by author and devoted Christian Anne Rice who understands which party better exemplifies the teachings of Jesus Christ.

    Comment by elmonica — August 18, 2007 @ 5:16 pm

  28. elmonica, So, Ms. Rice supports the biggest advocate of unlimited and up to the moment of birth abortion, Hillary Clinton. You know, I always become real suspicious of people who say that we cannot lower the number of abortions by making them harder to get. If this way of thinking is to be used, how about applying this standard to other distasteful things in society as well? Think of the bevy of laws that are now on the books today that we could simply erase in favor of just making the effort to persuade a person not to do something. Maybe if we had just talked Manson out of killing, and how about child molesters? Why don’t we talk to them and offer them help instead of throwing the book at them and giving them incarceration? Why is it okay to have laws for some things and not others? Maybe any rule or law is a bad way of trying to control human behavior.

In my way of thinking, Jesus Christ would want innocent human life protected. Don’t give me this liberal, wishy washy, God condones everything crap. I don’t think God involves himself in politics, and in my honest opinion, he wouldn’t be too happy with either party right now. But for anyone to claim that they are pro-life and yet support those who openly and aggressively market abortion and make millions off of it (Planned Parenthood, NARAL, etc) is a direct insult to my intelligence and my deeply held beliefs of right and wrong.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 18, 2007 @ 5:39 pm

  29. Oh, one more thought. For those of you who love to use that old line of “people are going to get abortions whether they are legal or not”. Okay, fine. Should we drop the current laws on murder, robbery, rape, child molestation, drunk driving and any other number of crimes? I mean, people are always going to do these things, even with laws on the books.

Our country is currently outraged at the Michael Vick dogfighting case. We are sickened by the thoughts of dogs being brutalized and dismembered. For some sad reason, the killing of unborn children is not met with that same outrage. You know what they say-out of sight, out of mind.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 18, 2007 @ 5:51 pm

  30. CD, I agree with your comments on how I believe the Lord views abortion. Jesus talked about the “narrow path”, yet liberals want to widen that path and let everyone in, whether they abide by His Word or not. I don’t care if anyone listens to what I think, but how can they distort His words to such an extent? He put forth very specific tenets by which we should live, yet they are largely pushed aside by today’s society. I’m not judging anyone, but I know He will in time (and of course He will judge my sins as well, which are many).

And what’s with this “Anne Rice”, mentioned above? I had never even heard of her until a few hours ago, and have come to find out she writes books on vampires! I’m thinking she may not be the best authority on Christianity.

    Comment by Missy — August 18, 2007 @ 8:46 pm

  31. Missy, Have you been reading any of Lauren Green’s blogs on the FOX website? I have always liked Lauren, but after reading her blogs I have a greater respect for her. There is a lot of depth to this woman….she seems like a very nice person. Her latest blog indicates that she is pro-life. God Bless her. A rare breed in her profession for sure. You can bet she loves working for a network where she is free to express a pro-life view. Apparently she isn’t looking to go running over to Cnn anytime soon like one of her former co-workers recently did. I don’t think Lauren’s views would be accepted at Cnn anyway.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 18, 2007 @ 9:02 pm

  32. Missy dear,

Drudge linked to her blog and I happed to read it today. The novel Interview with a Vampire is excellent and the movie starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt is not bad either.

Who better to discuss Christianity than somebody who crossed over from the dark side and found the light (so to speak), gave up writing books on vampires, and now writes religious themed books.

    Comment by elmonica — August 18, 2007 @ 9:14 pm

  33. elmonica, You call someone who still supports abortion rights as one who has “crossed over from the dark side”? Sounds like she’s still on the dark side to me. Anyone who thinks it is their right to decide for someone that their life is not worthy of living has not found the light, in my opinion. A lot of people who have abortions cite reasons such as the fact that they don’t want their child to face a life of inevitable hardship and pain. Well, if that’s the criteria they think should be used, then this earth would be a pretty empty place, don’t ya think? I remember former Surgeon General Dr. Joycelyn yacking about how every child should be a wanted child when making her pitch for abortion. What a cold fish. People who have these utopian dreams of perfection have always sent chills through me.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 18, 2007 @ 10:07 pm

  34. California,
Sorry, I tried to respond but my comment was eaten or denied. Actually you would have been surprised by my position.

    Comment by elmonica — August 19, 2007 @ 1:14 am

  35. california dreamin: If FNC parted ways with Lauren Green, you can be sure she would gladly accept a position with CNN. You can also be sure that CNN or any other network wouldn’t offer her a position within an hour of her termination.

    Comment by earl fenton — August 19, 2007 @ 1:48 am

  36. earl fenton, And wouldn’t you agree that the reason Lauren wouldn’t get hired by any other network is probably because she is too conservative? Let’s face it, a woman is not allowed to be a conservative (especially on abortion) in the news business these days, but FOX does seem to be a little more tolerant of them. Cnn grabbed Kiran in a hot second because they already knew she fit their liberal, pro-choice mold. I really don’t blame FOX for their public spat with Kiran and her Hollywood super agent. Any other network would have done the same thing. In my opinion, she already had her deal ready to go with Cnn while still sitting on the air at FOX, pretending to be the above board employee in good standing. It seems she was disloyal to FOX and to her fellow employees. Any network doesn’t like one of their own who plots with the competition while still earning a paycheck from them. Just ask Kathy Levine, formerly of QVC. If Kiran had been with Cnn and was planning a little deal with FOX, while at the same time praising Cnn as that high and mighty “gold standard” , don’t you think old Klein would have kicked her out on her rear end as well? No network wants a conniving and disloyal malcontent. It’s not just FOX.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 19, 2007 @ 4:48 pm

  37. elmonica: Re: Melanie Morgan.

Rather than endlessly picking up irrelevant garbage from leftist blogs, You Tube etc. and attempting to appear knowledgeable and intellectual; I get to hear Ms. Morgan locally, so I know her body of work far better than you. Occasionally she may be provocative, what talk show host isn’t, but by tirelessly supporting our troops, I know her heart is in the right place.

california dreamin: Apparently I misread your post about Kiran Chetry which I thought chided both FNC and Judge Napolitano for being pro-life.

    Comment by Ira — August 19, 2007 @ 7:18 pm

  38. No, I wouldn’t agree that Lauren wouldn’t be hired immediately because she is conservative. She wouldn’t be hired immediately because she is bland and boring.

CNN grabbed Kiran in a second because she is a competent anchor (as even you are grudgingly coming to see), she has tons of personality and she is gorgeous to boot. As Klein said, she lights up the screen.

There is absolutely no evidence that Kiran is pro abortion. That just what you want to believe.

I see you’ve bought NewsCorp’s sliming of Kiran hook, line and sinker. Roger Ailes has a history of this conduct when someone leaves FNC. Remember Paula Zahn. Kiran on the other hand has refused to lower herself to Ailes’ level. I’m as conservative as you. But I can still see that Ailes is being petty and vindictive when he has his minions act as legal VP Dianne Brandi did in leaking the letter to Kiran’s agent. Are you really that gullible that you buy the story that FNC wants you to believe completely?

    Comment by earl fenton — August 19, 2007 @ 7:46 pm

  39. Ira,
Oh o.k., you have looked into Ms. Morgan’s heart and saw goodness in the same way George Bush looked into Vladimir Putin’s eyes and saw his soul. I get it now and I feel as convinced about Ms. Morgan’s heart as I do about Vladimir Putin’s soul.

I have seen enough of that wretched woman on Hardball and other news programs to form an opinion without the help of some right wing talk-radio listening yahoo telling me otherwise.

And as far as my linking to third-party websites goes, that is called providing support for one’s argument. And if memory serves me, on at least one or more occasion you have asked me to provide a link to a report that I was discussing.

Instead of always talking out your azz, maybe you can put a little more research and effort into your comments so you too can make Aunt Mary’s list of favorite commenters.

    Comment by elmonica — August 19, 2007 @ 8:34 pm

  40. earl, I admire many of the FOX longtime employees. Some have been there from the beginning and still don’t enjoy nearly the spotlight that Kiran did when she left FOX. I have to believe that they really enjoy their work at FOX and that they believe in their team and their reporting family there. Kiran hired this new Hollywood agent, apparently not satisfied with the job her current one was doing. She must have felt that her newly found pitchman could somehow bully Roger Ailes. I don’t know how she could have arrived at that conclusion! See, Ailes likes teamwork and loyalty. He likes loyalty to him and loyalty amongst his employees. Maybe they felt that Kiran was being too much of a prima donna. Anyway, everything worked out just the way she wanted it to in the end. She got everything she wanted and more. I just have more respect for those who still love their jobs without having to be the star attraction at someone else’s expense.
