  8. I bet CNN doesn’t keep the momentum going at 11 pm, they’ll do something to screw it up. It’s about time that Cooper beat the O’Reilly repeat. The hour long show with short segments and no entertainment crap are so much better. Now if they could just fix the fact that Cooper looks like someone shat on his corn flakes every morning, it could be even easier to stomach. But, I have a feeling that they will have him to a 2 hour special on the new tats that Brangelina now have and will loose more viewers than they gained.

Now, just to find out how much time anony or her other names has spent today thinking about me, is just creepily weird.

  9. Did anyone else watch Anchorwoman? It was awesome! It was hysterical! It goes to prove that the job ain’t that hard and people can be trained on how to do it, which pretty much sums up the talent on CNN. They can just be an outside with no intelligence at all. They have people behind the scenes proping them up.

  11. Mary Snow, I’ll keep in mind what you said about the talent at CNN the next time you go on and on about how AWESOME John Roberts is. You must’ve been Anchorwoman’s only viewer–it’s been canceled after an extremely poor showing.

And btw, who’s asking you to watch Anderson Cooper in the first place? Since you don’t like his looks, his show and CNN, your time might be better spent polishing up your shrine to Aaron Brown.

  16. Hi california dreamin,
Needless to say, I totally agree with you comment. Since I didn’t actually see that particular interview, it brings up a more interesting issue. I believe that Kiran strongly felt that she would get E.D. Hill’s spot. The attention brought by Kiran’s FNC departure surprised me. When she actually left Fox, it seemed to take management by surprise. Someone in FNC management appeared to get genuinely pissed. Then the leaking of the infamous fax making her look very egotistical and career driven. (In the spirit of fun and lively exchange, we can discuss the idea that you have: her being flaming liberal…I’m out of time tonight because the Saints are playing). IMO, Kiran’s departure was much more related to her career advancement as opposed to the political leaning of either network.

    Comment by jmkaib — August 23, 2007 @ 8:58 pm

  19. Umm..did they really cancel “Anchorwoman” because of ratings or because the story of a person hired to do the news solely because of their looks hits too close to the truth?…or because CBS news was already airing the same program called the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric?

    Comment by earl fenton — August 24, 2007 @ 1:19 am

  25. earl, You may end up with two posts from me on this cause I just did one but it didn’t show up. Why do I think Kiran is liberal? 1-Thinks Jimmy Carter is “wonderful”. 2-Peter Jennings is her hero in news. 3-Raved about Brokeback Mountain. 4-Appeared to think it was funny when Sup. Court Justice nominee Alito’s mom told the press that her son was pro-life. 5-Made comments about Pres. Bush and how he had openly admitted to using cocaine years ago and then trying to back up her statement by referencing some anti-Bush book. 6-Went absolutlely ga-ga over John Edwards back a few years ago. 7-Seems to have a problem with the absence of pro-choicers in the Republican Party but apparently doesn’t have the same concern when it comes to pro-lifers in the Dem Party. I think it’s what we call a liberal double standard. Okay, that might be enough to chew on!

    Comment by california dreamin — August 24, 2007 @ 9:18 am

  26. CD, thanks for giving us those examples. I’ve read that people thought she was a lib, but I never before saw any instances of such. But the ones you’ve noted certainly seem to indicate that that’s her leaning.

How could ANYONE possibly laud the antics of Jimmy Carter or John Edwards?

  33. california dreamin: What I had in mind was pointing out something she has said recently, like the “newfound set of talking points since joining CNN” that you mentioned. You give nebulous examples with no context from years ago. I too think Jimmy Carter has done some wonderful things. I also think he was one of the worst presidents in US history, certainly the worst in my lifetime. I agree she was certainly wrong about President Bush admitting to cocaine use.

Several times since she joined CNN I’ve seen her have the opportunity to express her views on abortion and she’s not given the slightest indication of what they are. Since you want to talk about comments from years past, I’ll mention some that certainly paint a different picture. While at FNC I’ve heard her express pro second amendment and anti illegal immigration views. Sounds like a rock solid conservative to me!

My point (somewhat tongue in cheek) is, I don’t know if Kiran is a liberal or not. Neither do you. Most of the time she reveals very little of her own views. She opines even less now on a hard news show than she did on a show like Fox and Friends that allows more opinion.

If I had to bet on it, I’d say she does lean somewhat to the left on some social issues, and to the right on personal liberty and national security matters. I think she is hardly the flaming lib that you suggest. There are certainly many other journalists far more deserving of your invective.

    Comment by earl fenton — August 24, 2007 @ 8:43 pm

  34. earl, You say you think she leans to the right on some “personal liberty issues”? Well, I guess that means personal liberty for everyone but unborn children. I get it.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 24, 2007 @ 9:32 pm

  35. earl, one more little nugget and I’ll let it go. Many of Kiran’s questions lately concerning abortion have been very one-sided and pretty revealing as to her beliefs and biases on the matter. She may not have shouted “I’m for abortion”, but her words certainly lead me in that direction. I’m just curious about something-why does Kiran present herself as this loveable person who cares about creatures, going out of her way to rescue and help them, expressing outrage when they are abused or tortured, but then when it comes to unborn babies, well…….Lots of liberals are like this, and it doesn’t make much sense to me. What’s wrong with placing value on all life? God made all of us special. He knew us even before our mommies and daddies did.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 24, 2007 @ 9:54 pm

  36. Some argument CD. EF is shaking in his boots. Insults aren’t proof. I think you’re busted. If not, offer up a link or two.

    Comment by erljr — August 24, 2007 @ 9:57 pm

  37. I wrote that without seeing your last post. Still a poor argument. People who love animals like abortion? C’mon.

    Comment by erljr — August 24, 2007 @ 10:03 pm

  38. erljr, EF just admitted that she was socially liberal, so I guess he agrees with me! Look, it’s that “all life is precious and should be protected, except the unborn” attitude that really sours me on a lot of these female journalists. If there is any one issue where they absolutely can’t hide their views, it’s this one.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 24, 2007 @ 10:13 pm

  39. california dreamin: You have yet to offer the slightest evidence to support you insistence that Kiran is pro abortion. What questions has she asked about abortion that leads you to believe she wants to kill the unborn?

I didn’t admit that she is socially liberal. How can I admit something that I said I don’t know? I said that I believe she probably leans left on some social issues. If you can’t see that difference it’s pretty easy to imagine the leaps in logic you must take to reach your conclusions.

    Comment by earl fenton — August 24, 2007 @ 11:07 pm

  40. Just to be clear CD, I agree with you on the hypocrisy of female journalists in general on this issue.

    Comment by erljr — August 25, 2007 @ 2:13 am

  41. earl, I’ve always been a careful listener and observer when it comes to the news media and their reporting on abortion. The media is pro-choice, and they portray those who are against this atrocity as wackos. Even though pro-lifers strongly disagree with Roe V. Wade, we go about our day and accept that this is the way it is, at least for now. We don’t believe in violence to solve this injustice. We would, however, like to change hearts and maybe a justice or two on the Supreme Court, so that the issue could return back to the states where it belongs. I don’t see what is so wacko about that.
So, as I told you, I listen very intently to words. Maybe I listen more closely to Kiran’s words because she has always struck me as a caring and non-violent type;respectful of life. But as I listen to her ask those questions of politicos from the left and right, I hear a familiar theme and direction. It always seems like the liberal media wants to know why Republicans can’t be pro-choice, like they should feel ashamed if they are not. I never hear Kiran or anyone else ever ask a Democrat about why their party is so lacking in pro-life members. The reason it isn’t asked is because they don’t see any merit in the pro-life position. Pretty simple.
I think it was one of you who replied to my comment about those who express great sympathy and outrage when animals are mistreated, tortured or killed. I love animals and don’t want to see any of them mistreated. But I think if you were to attend a PETA meeting or rally, you would most likely find that the majority of these members are pro-choice when it comes to abortion. Hollywood celebrities are a great example of this. Okay, I’ve talked enough on this.

    Comment by california dreamin — August 25, 2007 @ 4:22 pm

  42. Yes, you’ve talked more than enough on this and you have yet to offer a single word that Kiran has said that indicates she is pro abortion. When I’ve heard her interview someone on the subject, I’ve heard her meticulously avoid injecting opinion into the questions she’s asked.

I’m just as much pro life as you are. And I believe you are correct in your assessment of Hollywood and PETA.

But I’ve been watching Kiran since she first appeared on FNC in 2001 and I haven’t heard a peep from her that indicates a position on abortion one way or the other.

    Comment by earl fenton — August 25, 2007 @ 8:22 pm

  43. earl, Here’s a small portion of the transcript of the interview Kiran did with John McCain recently on Cnn. Very professional job by Kiran, but do you get a sense that an abortion supporter is asking this question? I sure do.

CHETRY: When it comes to Rudy Giuliani as well he was the only one on the stage that was willing to say that he was pro-choice. I mean, after really getting questioned. Do you think that a pro-choice candidate can win the GOP ticket?

MCCAIN: I think it’s very difficult. I think it’s very difficult, because it’s one of the principles of our party. But he seems to be doing pretty well so far. (END VIDEO CLIP)

CHETRY: All right. So that was John McCain weighing in about Rudy Giuliani saying it is difficult to be the only pro-choice candidate in the GOP field. Giuliani still leading the national polls, though.

So, old Rudy is the only one “willing”, huh? Is she calling the rest of the GOP field cowards or scared because they weren’t “willing” to say, “yes, I think a woman has a guaranteed right to kill an unborn child”? I don’t know what she expected, because the GOP presidential field has never been filled with pro-choicers! Has she read that GOP Platform lately?

    Comment by california dreamin — August 26, 2007 @ 2:21 pm

  44. Is that all you’ve got? Good God that is weak!

That was a perfectly legit question given some of the other Repub candidates positions and splitting of hairs.

Romney: “While I’ve said time and again that I oppose abortion, I’ve also indicated that I would not change in any way the abortion laws of Massachusetts, and I’ve honored my promises.”

McCain: McCain said he had “come to the conclusion that the exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother are legitimate exceptions” to an outright ban on abortions. “I don’t claim to be a theologian, but I have my moral beliefs.” If Roe v. Wade is overturned and abortion outlawed, McCain said he believes doctors who performed abortions would be prosecuted. “But I would not prosecute a woman” who obtained an abortion.

Fred Thompson, in a Tennesseans for Choice questionnaire he filled out in 1996: Thompson: The Supreme Court has attempted to delineate the constitutionally appropriate roles for individual and governmental decision-making on the issue of abortion. Beyond that, I believe that the federal government should not interfere with individual convictions and actions in this area.

Sounds an awful lot like candidates other than Rudy are willing to allow abortions, they just aren’t willing to say so in a public debate. Exactly Kiran’s point.

    Comment by earl fenton — August 26, 2007 @ 6:47 pm

  45. earl, I had not thought of this angle. I believe all of these candidates (except Rudy) declare themselves as pro-life currently, correct? I certainly knew of Romney’s flip flops on the issue, and recently I’ve also read about Thompson’s questionable past concerning his position on abortion. I think McCain has always been pretty consistent on the issue. He’s more in line with what President Bush would say on the matter…abortion legal in some cases. Anyhow, it’s always possible that Kiran was approaching the question from this direction. I’m willing to be fair and entertain the possibility.
