What’s hot/What’s not: 8/26/07

What’s Hot

CNN’s Publicity Department - When CNN has something big cooking their publicity machine tends to go all out, but this week ratcheted things up to another level with the publicity for “God’s Warriors”. In addition to the usual blanket publicity campaign there was a concerted effort to reach out to the blogger community this time. Although the event was sort of scripted, with questions being submitted in advance rather than a free flow chat, just the fact that CNN tried this maneuver is notable.

Christiane Amanpour - This one is rather self-evident. You had to be living under a rock to not notice Amanpour’s profile this week.

Keith Olbermann - Though he was off Countdown most of the week, Olbermann’s name was all over the press with the announcement that NBC was going to run Countdown before the NFL preseason game Sunday night.

Geraldo Rivera - Whether it was mixing it up with Michelle Malkin, Laura Ingraham, or Michelle Dellaroche, Rivera was front and center in the topic of illegal immigration this week.

FNC opens Studio E - Fox and Friends was the first show to debut in FNC’s brand new Studio E, but it won’t be the last. Up on deck, The Fox Report and Studio B (but will it still be called Studio B?)…

What’s Not

Tammy Haddad - Haddad was removed or resigned (depending on whose story you believe) as EP of Hardball this week. Haddad will still be a force in MSNBC’s D.C. Bureau but this was a definite prestige hit for her.

  1. So “hot” doesn’t necessarily mean what is good or done well but what had the most publicity. Got ya. It doesn’t mean physical attractiveness as some of the slow to catch on theought. ;)

I thought Haddad was just removed from the EP so she could concentrate on the upcoming election duties. I guess some don’t ever want to believe that anyone is media is ever terminated.

Now where is anony with her lame ass “stroke” comment?

If you really want to clean up the board, get rid of the Anderfans. This recent attack has only occurred since I outed CoopedUp from the Andersphere as anony. Notice how she brought all the loons with her to attack me. Pattern of behavior. Odd that Me posted at 4:59 right at the same time that CoopedUp posted on Andersphere at 4:51. That’s how you figure it out kids.

Go read their board Spud - right now they are discussing whether or not Anderson would wear a wedding ring and if he might be secretly married and find out who the crack-heads are.

Now I have to go back to being either John Roberts agent or Aaron Brown’s lover as Me accuses (personal attack that occurred first BTW), they both keep me very busy.

  2. According to my schedule it is almost time for Countdown on NBC. Let us all be sure to tune in and show our support for mainstream America’s anchorman.

The rest of you can turn on Geraldo or the Beltway boys and suck your thumbs over the attention KO is getting today.

  3. What the hell. My NBC affiliate is not playing Countdown but paid programming for Time Life Music.

  4. Bye, bye Mary Snow. You were warned. You ignored it.

  5. My NBC affiliate is airing local sports coverage! So much for Countdown.

  6. Elmonica, if it makes you feel any better… KO’s on Directv.

  7. I should add, that’s in market #19. I guess its up to the local affiliates whether or not they take the network feed.

  8. My super-secret insider sources tell me:

NBC affiliate WAFF-TV channel 48 in Huntsville, AL, is showing Keith

  9. Good point in regards to Geraldo. Whether you agree with his position or not, his becoming the go-to guy for the pro-comprehenive reform view serves to give him lots more publicity. Personally “Geraldo At Large” is not my cup of tea, but the exposure he’s been getting should help.

  11. My husband laughed at the idea of Keith on before football and thankfully put on 60 Minutes.

  12. Finally. Thank you Spud.

  13. FishOil & Spud: I disagree about Geraldo Rivera.

Geraldo refuses to even acknowledge that if the ringleader in Newark had been deported when he was arrested on pedophile charges, the murders of those college students would not have occurred. For that reason, Geraldo Rivera is hardly the go-to guy for immigration matters.

  14. as I wil continue to say;
what is hot: Don Imus returning to broadcasting
what is not: ultimately giving a contract and a morning show to Joe Scarborough

  15. Ira - I hear what you are saying…but again, it depends on what side of the issue people are on, and Geraldo verbalizes the pro-comprehensive reform well. Again, I’m not saying he is right or wrong…the point I think Spud was raising was that Geraldo has recently become a prominent figure on Fox, which is good for his career (and more specifically, Fox’s “Geraldo at Large”).

Just to add to Spud’s list…Geraldo squared off with GOP Presidential candidate Tom Tancredo on Hannity and Colmes last week. Again, he is getting a lot of face time and is thus raising his stock.
Speaking of which…Geraldo was filibustering throughout the debate. Tancredo let out a sigh at one point because Geraldo kept going and going while Hannity was trying to pass it back off to Tancredo…probably reminded Tancredo of his experience during the debates.

  16. The ‘Fox Report’ and ‘Studio B’ are also going to be in E? I assumed that they were going to a new, remodeled Studio B and that’s why they were still filming in their temporary homes this week. Is Studio B going to be solely for FBN now?

I don’t see how Shep’s comments about the new high-tech set and the relaunching of the ‘Fox Report’ fit Studio E unless there’s an alternate set in there that we haven’t seen yet. That would be cool. But whatever, ‘Studio B’ still is very missable these days.

  17. Sonic, I think Spud might have been saying that F&F/E aren’t the only new studios for FOX, Studio B/Fox Report are next to appear in new sets for the network, not to mentioned the forgot Big Story w/ Gibson/Nauert
