Abrams vs. Amanpour…

But will anyone watch/care? Probably not.

Hey, maybe Dan will announce a “new” edition of LOCKUP focusing on religion.
Comment by Terance — August 27, 2007 @ 4:32 pm
Does anyone care what Dan Abrams said. After is “act” concerning Imus, stick a fork in him.
Comment by Obama in 08! — August 27, 2007 @ 4:32 pm
I think some religions are different from other religions. I thought that was a given. Very insightful for Dan to notice this.
Comment by Jim — August 27, 2007 @ 4:48 pm
The only thing Dan knows how to do is slam other networks. Perhaps he should stop all of this hootenanny and focus his attention inward at his own network.
Comment by jmkaib — August 27, 2007 @ 4:51 pm
LOL at posts 1-4!! I think Abrams is just peeved that CNN’s “doc block” a) beat MSNBC’s new docs that went up against CNN and b) is actually worth watching, unlike the crap he puts on every night.

I wonder will he attack Amanpour for trying to compare mainstrem Christians in the same light as Radical follower’s of Islam which is the truth or take the PC line and attack Amanpour for trying to compare Islam with Evil Republican Bushco. Christians?
Comment by mlong — August 27, 2007 @ 5:21 pm
#4 - I agree. Dan needs to focus on his own network. He doesn’t have much ground to stand on in this case…those specials were well done.
As far as MSNBC’s programming goes, it’s worth noting (read this in the NYT) that 19 of MSNBC’s 25 highest rated shows in the month of July were To Catch a Predator re-runs. Doesn’t speak well for the live news.
Here’s a link to the NYT article (registration required), for those interested.

That stat is old news to anyone who read ICN. I’m the one that first posted that data…
Comment by Spud — August 27, 2007 @ 5:44 pm
Dan Abrams should make a smart move: Kill his show, put himself back on @ 4 Et, and add another hour of doc block ever y day @ 9 et. Last week most of his show focused on interviews with things relating to porn. Already that desperate for ratings Dan?
Comment by Aaron — August 27, 2007 @ 6:16 pm
Attacking the (more successful) competition has become a staple for MSNBC. They figure it might have helped them a little…so they’ll beat the concept into the ground.
It’s pretty pathetic. They’re like little kids starving for attention…”Look at me! Look at me!”
Comment by bigred — August 27, 2007 @ 6:23 pm
Soon, MSNBC will run out of Docs people haven’t seen! They cannot keep this up much longer.
Comment by jmkaib — August 27, 2007 @ 6:28 pm
Sorry, Spud…didn’t mean to imply that you hadn’t covered it.
I was unaware, although I do check out ICN daily but don’t remember every statistic reported.
Comment by FishOil — August 27, 2007 @ 6:40 pm
If MSNBC spent half as much time and energy into making their own product better as they do bitching about everyone else (with better ratings) then they too might attract viewers.
Comment by Alison — August 27, 2007 @ 8:03 pm
I was watching Amanpour when she called the murder of that dutch fellow as a ‘holy killing’ - I could not believe it. Either Amanpour accepts western values and justice to include not committing ‘holy killings’ or she does not. Labelling a murder as that is an affront. I hope Dan hits her on that.
Comment by gadlaw — August 27, 2007 @ 8:05 pm
I didn’t comment on this CNN series before because I didn’t watch it, because I thought it would be biased. Sure enough, it was, according to Abrams, at least.
In general, he seemed to say that Christiane was giving the radical Muslims a pass on their acts AND their motives, while blaming the Jews and Christians for conflicts in the world.
Again, I did not watch her series (protecting myself from being p*ssed off), but that was Abrams take. And I tend to agree with him, based on the very small portion of the series that I did watch.

I have been onto Christianne for a long time. She used the airwaves to foster her liberal husband’s views for years.
So I, too, chose not to watch this show. (self-preservation)
Good for you, Dan, for speaking for many of us.
Comment by Cella — August 27, 2007 @ 10:45 pm
I think that whenever Abrams can find a way to bash CNN, he goes for it, because most nights he is bashing FNC.
I agree that, taking all six hours together, this set of docs excuses Islam for it’s radical islamofacsistic goals. But I also believe, taken separately, the three docs can be a learning experience for all of us. I don’t personally know anyone more well versed on this subject than me, and I learned from the series. And, as I’ve said before, I reject the assertion that Americans are too dumb to see through the bias in Amanpour’s reporting. Most of us who comment here watch all three cable nets, not because we agree with the spin, but because we want to hear all sides and make up our own minds. I challenge anyone who watched this to:
1) tell me you were brainwashed or
2) tell me you didn’t learn anything
Comment by erljr — August 27, 2007 @ 10:57 pm
I suppose this is just my take from the series, but I didn’t perceive Amanpour as excusing “Islam for its radical Islamofascistic goals.” I think she was trying to take an objective view of each religion….that is, she wasn’t putting herself in the position of judging the merits. I saw the same in the documentary she did on Bin Laden. She wasn’t justifying his actions, but was trying to put together how he became a mass murderer and conveying his rationale and how it was developed.
Anyway, I agree that it was very informative.

Abrams vs. Amanpour i will take Dan any day, even with all his negative side.
Some people we know feel the same way after we found out some story in regards Amanpour when she was in Italy i belive few years back.
That woman is danger zone.
Comment by Sandy — August 28, 2007 @ 8:04 am
I watched all three segments. They were all informative. What is sad is some of the comments here of people who DID NOT EVEN WATCH the series, took the view point of a competitor’s general manager (what did Dan spend on this, all of about 5 minutes). Really sad.
Comment by Obama in 08! — August 28, 2007 @ 10:01 am
O08, I am assuming you mean me, for one. And as I mentioned I saw very little of the documentaries. But what I did see was:
1. Right after her interview w/Rev. Falwell, she goes to a story on an abortion clinic bombing, as if Falwell himself was involved. This is NOT the case; Falwell was always very emphatic in his views on abortion, but NEVER resorted to showing his opposition (to anything) using violence.
2. When interviewing Ron Luce, founder of Teen Mania, she compared the group’s conservative dress code with that of the Taliban! Really? Luce just asks that the girls dress non-provocatively, not that they cover themselves up and dress in a ridiculous, dangerous and identity-hiding manner.
So that was enough for me. And based on past performance by both Christiane and Dan, I tend to trust Dan in this case.
Comment by Missy — August 28, 2007 @ 10:14 am
Frankly I found the segment on Christianity to be the weakest in terms of information and production.
Missy, I find you tend to be pretty informed and leave thoughtful comments. I just think we all go down a slippery slope (journalistically) when we form our views via a single media pundit verses actually seeing the original piece.
Comment by Obama in 08! — August 28, 2007 @ 10:55 am
OK, O08, point taken.
Comment by Missy — August 28, 2007 @ 11:33 am
Theo Van Gogh was obviously a holy killing, it’s stupid to think otherwise, drop the oh there’s christian extremists too. The question is was theo van gogh’s murder a holy killing, yes, it was. Pages of the Koran were stabbed into the man’s chest.
Honestly if you think that it wasn’t you’re biased and frankly dumb. It obviously was.

One acknowledges that men’s life is high priced, nevertheless different people need money for various things and not every man earns enough money. Thence to get quick home loans and just credit loan will be a correct way out.
