  1. Could someone explain to me how CNN gets these numbers. I have been looking at the numbers daily and other than their God’s Warriors series, and one or two night that Larry King had special guest, FOX beats them in total viewer? What am I missing?

  2. Anderson Cooper should get more airtime. That would help the ratings.

  3. Okay Sam. FNC has never topped CNN in total viewers. FNC viewers simply watch longer. For instance, if CNN has 12 viewers watching for five minutes each in a particular hour, and FNC has one viewer watching in that same hour, they both have a single ratings point.

FNC usually wins in the ratings. CNN usually wins in total viewers. But when there’s breaking news (Katrina, mine collapse, bridge collapse) or a special like God’s Warriors, CNN viewers watch longer, and CNN usually tops FNC in the ratings.

Now among those of us who understand this, FNC fans think CNN fans have short attention spans, and CNN fans think FNC fans are zombies. You can make up your own mind about that.

*snort* Thanks, erljr. I needed that.

Sam: The magic word is platforms which these days includes the web site, cell phones and worldwide audience etc. Everything AND the kitchen sink!

Wonder if his bosses will give Jon Klein a big raise based on all those platforms!

  6. CNN is the place where cable tv news watchers go to first when news happens. That is never going to change.

    Comment by TT — August 29, 2007 @ 6:42 am

  7. Untrue TT. CNN viewers just lengthen their attention spans when news happens. No one changes the channel; they stick with their loyalties.

  8. People who don’t normally watch cable news on regular basis do watch when big breaking news happens and for many people CNN is the one they go to for these stories.

  9. myview - read TT’s post: “CNN is the place where CABLE TV NEWS WATCHERS go to first when news happens.”
That is what I was responding to.

  11. Take Wolf Blitzer off the air or at least limit his 99 hours a day of time on the air. I hear his voice and flip the channel!

  12. When news breaks, I go to MSNBC. I don’t trust Fox and CNN is boring. Dan Abrams is right that CNN puts you to sleep.
I watch FNC to see what the other side is saying… but I don’t like them.

  13. FNC calls itself fair and balanced. They are just right-wing propaganda. Does anyone ever notice they are ALWAYS doing a negative piece on Hillary Clinton?? They always dig up some story about her. But they never do a negative piece on say Rudy or Mitt Romney (who they secretly love). People wake up and smell the bias!! LOL
