Diana Anniversary: MSNBC coverage notes…

MSNBC announced its programming plans marking the 10th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana…

MSNBC marks the tenth anniversary of the death of Princess Diana with dayside coverage and documentary premieres and specials. On Friday, August 31st, ten years after many Americans awoke to the startling news that the “People’s Princess” had died, MSNBC will air live coverage of the memorial service for Princess Diana near Buckingham Palace from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. ET. From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET, MSNBC will re-air the 1997 funeral of Princess Diana. MSNBC’s Alex Witt will also report live from London.

In addition, MSNBC will present three specials focusing on Princess Diana next weekend, including “Five Diana Conspiracy Theories,” “Time & Again: Royal Wedding,” and “The Princes: William and Harry.”

“Five Diana Conspiracy Theories”:

A decade after the tragic car crash in a Paris tunnel that took the lives of Princess Diana and her boyfriend Dodi Fayed, there are still questions surrounding their deaths. Was it a simple car accident or were more sinister forces at work? MSNBC’s “Five Diana Conspiracy Theories,” premiering Saturday, September 1st at 12 p.m. ET, separates fact from fiction. “Five Diana Conspiracy Theories” will re-air on Sunday, September 2nd at 3 p.m., 8 p.m., and 11 p.m. ET.

“Time and Again: Royal Wedding”:

Travel back to July, 1981, when hundreds of millions of people across the globe tuned in to the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer. Relive the pageantry as it was covered by NBC News. “Time and Again: Royal Wedding” airs Saturday, September 1st at 1 p.m. ET and Sunday, September 2nd at 4 p.m. ET.

“The Princes: William and Harry”:

In their first American television interview, Prince William and Prince Harry of Wales talk with NBC News’ Matt Lauer. They remember their mother, Princess Diana, and talk about the paths their lives have taken since her death ten years ago. “The Princes: William and Harry” airs Saturday, September 1st at 2 p.m. ET and Sunday, September 2nd at 5 p.m. ET.

Michael Rubin is vice president, long-form programming, MSNBC. Scott Hooker is senior executive producer, documentary production and development, MSNBC. Dan Abrams is general manager, MSNBC.

  2. In other words, they are running more canned documentaries which are years old.

  3. MSNBC should just start airing Paid Programming. More people would watch.

  4. Sorry to inform everyone, but Princess Diana is still big news, she is still a star, she can still make the monarchy feel very rocky, and a good thing too. I plan to watch all I can.

  6. I’d rather see a show about what her legacy is — what are all the folks/organizations inspired by Diana doing these days and how are they helping people. Ten years later that is the real measure of her impact on the world. What is happening there? I’m sure there is a lot of good stuff.

  7. Thanks so much for airing all of these! I’m still sad she’s not with us in the world. I will watch as much as I can.

  9. Yes keep showing the theories about Diana’s death. My first
“gut” instinct when the news broke 10 years ago, was that she was sacrificed. Thank you.
