  1. I’d say the FNC debate was pretty hot…better than any of the others have been (and wasn’t it highest rated?)…if not the whole debate, Carl Cameron was great.

For not hot, I know, not a real answer, but the fact that I am forced to watch Olbermann during football.

    Comment by Sarah — September 8, 2007 @ 12:59 pm

  2. Also not hot, the lack of ICN in my life this week.

    Comment by Sarah — September 8, 2007 @ 1:00 pm

  3. What’s hot? KO’s demo numbers

    Comment by randy — September 8, 2007 @ 1:06 pm

  4. What was hot–Fox’s GOP debate (hightest #’s for a debate thus far)

(get back to you on the What’s not after work)

    Comment by Wenchie — September 8, 2007 @ 1:17 pm

  5. CBS News Baghdad bureau’s on the ground performance in getting Couric around Iraq. No other news organization has been able to accomplish this. Regardless of what the numbers say, the news community took great notice of not just broadcasting from a hotel roof.
And, Couric’s serendipitious exclusive with the President on his surprise visit to Al Anbar.

  6. Sorry…and what is not hot???? Osama Bin Laden’s dye job….

    Comment by TV Colleague — September 8, 2007 @ 1:28 pm

  7. Not: TVN this week.
Hot: MSNBC — had a good week in the demo, especially Slobermann.

  8. What’s hot:

Randy’s back to praise Olbermoron’s every word.

FNC’s debate. The best so far. Professional, tough questions, and candidates sparring with each other. Exactly what a debate should be.

Not hot: Counting a 15 minute segment in the demo as a ratings victory, when you still lose in the demo and get almost tripled in the overall ratinggs.

    Comment by bigred — September 8, 2007 @ 2:31 pm

  9. I’ll vote TVN as “What’s not” as well…This site and that site were on my must check daily lists..No more…Its become weak…

Also..IMO…Fred Thompson for not doing the NH debates

    Comment by Wenchie — September 8, 2007 @ 3:45 pm

  10. Osama bin Laden is hot right now. Look here’s a man that has resisted being captured by Bush and he just loves to flaunt it. Simply amazing NOBODY will turn him in and claim the reward money.

    Comment by Me — September 8, 2007 @ 4:08 pm

  11. Actually, I’d say Fred Thompson is hot for not doing the debate…for once a candidate who actually has a chance is kind of playing by his own rules and not letting the media manipulate and control him…and they can’t stand it.

Totally agree about TVN, Wenchie. I USED to check it daily as well.

    Comment by Sarah — September 8, 2007 @ 4:27 pm

  12. NOT HOT: To Catch a Predator (Chris Hansen is starting to seem a little wierd to me); Olberman (Same Song, Different Day); Geraldo Rivera.
HOT: Fred Thompson for not giving in and doing what he wanted re debates; Fall is coming and that is Hot!
Re: no one turned in Osama for reward money - What would they spend it on? Rock polish.

    Comment by Sophia — September 8, 2007 @ 4:50 pm

  13. Sophia, the cave dwellers need all the rock polish they can get with this little economic slide we are going into rock polish prices will go up
HOT: Bill O’Reilly comes back from vacation and Olby is not so hot anymore. Brit Hume/Chris Wallace for the debate.
NOT: Msnbc’s ratings watchers can’t seem to ever speak a truth. Carl Cameron (can anyone stand him). I was watching the Big Story Weekend today and they had Fox News live graphics flashing all over the place and even said “Big Story Weekend.” Did Fox not realize this? It went on for over 15 minutes.

    Comment by Aaron — September 8, 2007 @ 5:12 pm

  14. Me, have you noticed? Six years since the attacks and we have not been attacked? Who cares about bin Laden - he’s apparently been neutered, and his only interests now are the impotence of the dems and the subprime mortage problems some people are having.

    Comment by Missy — September 8, 2007 @ 5:38 pm

  15. All

I not seen any coverage of the NJ Corruption Arrest 11 top officials arrested there are ties to Senator Hillary Clinton why isn’t the MSM covering this story the Print Press is.

    Comment by Ree — September 8, 2007 @ 6:01 pm

  16. Missy, part of the whole point of the WOT was to capture Bin Laden, and he still matters in the larger shift of things. While he’s not running the ship, he still has a certain amount of power over inspiring the people to work for their side. We haven’t been attacked in 6 years since we went after their organization in Afghanistan, where the enemy really was, not Iraq. Iraq had nothing to do with the WOT, the proof to go into the country was even questioned then, and the overall situation we’re in now is just a joke in many respects.

We’re stuck with Iraq, but if they aren’t going to do their end of the work, what in the world is the point? It’s like yelling at a child to not do something, give him some sort of acknowledgeable, then turning around and see him do the same thing again. If we stand watch, he won’t be beat up by the kids that’ll beat on him, but if he doesn’t learn to defend and stand up for himself, he’ll fail once we leave. Iraq in that regard is a failure at this point, and the question becomes what really is the final answer for us to get out and let them evolve.

On topic, a few simple items this week:

Hot : FNC Debate - Pretty good ratings, though it seems like they all said the same scripted responses for most of the program.

Hot : Countdown - Even though a minor win, the program might be showing signs of benefiting from the NBC exposure.

    I can’t think of anything that isn’t…..

    Comment by Chris (clind) — September 8, 2007 @ 6:23 pm

  17. I have not seen any coverage of that triple murder suicide in Florida that involved all those republican aides that had ties to Rep. Patrick McHenry.(R)One of the dead guys use to be Mchenrys roommate. One of them was once a lover of Ralph Reed. Havent heard anything on this story either. It happened right before the Larry Craig story broke.

    Comment by ali — September 8, 2007 @ 6:25 pm

  18. Republicans in Florida cancel out Democrats in New Jersey. Are we even now?

HOT: FNC debate, Brit, Chris and Wendell.

Not: TVNewser stealing without attribution or apology.

Not: ICN leaving us with the corrupt TVNewser

    HOT: ICN’s triumphant return.

HOT: bin Laden, or a shoe-polished facsimile.

  19. Hot: A week’s vacation on Maui.

Not: A week of Cable News research in New York.

    ;-)

  20. grandpa D…you have me rolling in laughter :-D….LOL

    Comment by Wenchie — September 8, 2007 @ 9:08 pm

  21. Hot: Mike Nifong going to jail.

Hot: President Bush’s surprise trip to Iraq.

Not hot: Rita Cosby’s book about Anna Nicole being discussed everywhere it seemed.

Not hot: Larry Craig waffling as much as John Kerry.

Not hot: Story of Brenda Nesselroad-Slaby remembering to unload donuts from SUV, forgetting daughter. Also all the other child neglect/deaths in the news.

    Comment by Caroline — September 8, 2007 @ 11:01 pm

  22. Geraldo being heckled during his live show on Saturday night in front of FOX News Headquarters for half the show. Not sure if that’s HOT or NOT, but it was interesting to watch… and listen too….

    Comment by Nobody — September 9, 2007 @ 1:13 am

  23. Hot: Fox’s debate for it’s ratings…the highest yet.

Not: Chris Wallice for being disrespectful to Ron Paul during the debates. (Note: I am not a Ron Paul acolyte). During a question where he was listing the government agencies Paul would want to get rid of, he couldn’t contain himself from laughing when he got to the FBI. The notion may be absurd to many, but Wallice should be more professional. It got worse when, in a follow-up to a question about Iraq, Wallice asked Paul if we should “take our marching orders from Al Qaeda.” It was a rather insulting question and had nothing to do with the assertion Paul was making….Wallice is smarter than that.

Hot: Tucker Carlson. He was on remote from Los Angeles last week because he was taping the game show that has been running through the rumor mill the past few months. Despite lackluster ratings on MSNBC, Tucker Carlson is actually branching out and will be getting more exposure.

  24. Oh yeah - forgot to mention two definitely NOT HOTS - Rita Cosby and her face all over every Fox and Court Tv show. Why do the suits give her air time? She is just offensive, kinda like Al Sharpton being given time. I was surprised I didn’t see Geraldo have her on though - I never thought he was real crazy about her when she was at Fox.

Also - Star Jones and her new Court TV show. IMO, it is just awful and doubly so because at 2:00 CST they quit whatever trial they are showing and go to her. Friday - just as the Prosecutor in Phil Spector trial was to begin his final closing argument, what does Court TV do - cut it off and go to her and it is ticking people off. They get rid of Catherine Crier and get Star Jones? Go figure? Definitely not hot.

    Comment by Sophia — September 9, 2007 @ 8:02 am

  25. Not HOT….The NEW UBL. He looks like one of the “Smith Bros.” from the cough drop boxes or the “Elbonian” from the Dilbert Comic Strip.

    Comment by Roger C. — September 9, 2007 @ 8:13 am

  26. Fish Oil, what is this game show that Tucker is involved in?

Sophia, I, too, have been infuriated w/Court TV when they drop certain court proceedings. I rarely watch it, but a few times over the years, there have been certain high profile trials occuring. We’ll be watching, and they’ll cut it off right at 5 p.m. ET to go to taped programming. Or at other crucial times during the day, as you suggest. I imagine you and others were furious if they did that during the closing arguments of the Specter trial. Do they have such little regard for the audience that they would pull something so idiotic?

    Comment by Missy — September 9, 2007 @ 10:07 am

  27. HOT: Amy Roebach. While an anchor for MSNBC, I was always somewhat indifferent about Amy. I thought she did a fine job, but I never had strong feelings towards her, one way or the other. However, as the new co-host of Weekend Today, Amy has been terrific. I suspect that the NBC suits see great potential for Amy.

HOT: FNC’s Brigitt Quinn. I admit that I was disappointed when she lost her daily position during weekday programming. However, she did a great job last week filling in for Meg Kelley working along side of Bill Hemmer.

HOT: CNN’s Tom Foreman. I’m happy to see that CNN seems to have finally settled on Foreman as being the host of CNN’s This Week at War.

    Comment by Objective Analyst — September 9, 2007 @ 11:31 am

  28. Missy - Tucker was on the radio last week and was asked about it. Unfortunately I don’t remember a lot of what he said, but the gist of it is that they take a couple and each member has to “trust” the other (or something like that). It’s on either CBS or ABC (I’m pretty sure CBS…I distinctly remember it isn’t on NBC) and he said they were tinkering with it as the process went on. When it’s going to premiere he didn’t know….sometime this fall.

Just to add to my list of nominations…

Hot: Red Eye, for starting to get guests from film and tv who are plugging new shows. They had George Lopez on promoting his new movie a week or two ago. So if celebrities are being booked to plug their projects then the show must be building (for that timeslot anyway) a respectable audience.
The show still has a ways to go before it is competing with the likes of the Daily Show, but they are moving up judging by the guests they are booking.
