CNN/Reuters/Bin Laden video: Update…
The New York Times’ Brian Stelter writes about the CNN/Reuters/Bin Laden mess from Friday…
A CNN correspondent did obtain a transcript of bin Laden’s message and used archival footage to report on it. But television relies on fresh visuals; without them, CNN, which is owned by Time Warner, continued its regular news coverage while Fox News Channel and MSNBC covered the bin Laden tape as breaking news.
In explaining the decision to cancel the Reuters contract the week before, Tony Maddox, a CNN International executive, had said that the company would make significant investments in its own news-gathering capabilities and reduce its reliance on outside agencies.
Without the wire service, CNN was put in an unpleasant position. Through an arrangement with the Arabic news network Al Jazeera, it was able to show the new video half an hour after its competitors. Al Jazeera, too, was broadcasting the Reuters video.

CNN I-Report is a big JOKE… the video was offered to CNN by this way but wasn’t answered… a Phone call to Reuters was making the history minutes later…

A friend in Europe was publishing a screengran at 19:49 central europe time (+2GMT = 13:49 ET) and in the lapse before the full publication, he says that was sending mails to Reuters, AP and CNN-I Report but no one was answering.

In the next hour, he was waiting for a answer but no one was reply the email… so he found the Reuters HQ telephone on Internet. There was a negotiation and one hour later Reuters was publishing the video.

Can you put me in touch with this person? Email me his email or some way to contact him?

geez is CNN-I report the way to get a vid of osama bin laden? If I was sent the vid through that means I would question it and refuse. If one has NOTHING to hide they would send through legit NEWS means, NOT a website reporting method.

Perhaps they did not know the proper way? I don’t know.

Haha… watching the ‘CNN revenge’. They have the video before no one thanks to Laura Mansfield, a CNN regular contributor.
But this video is so cheap. The first one was the ‘2007 speech’.
