Countdown loses last segment?

The Midnight repeat of Countdown had a different segment than what aired at 8pm. This crude announcement ran before that. What was the last segment that got bumped?

Update: The last segment was previewing the Bush address. If MSNBC opted not to re-air the address at 1am, then it is likely that is why the preview segment was dropped for the replay.

  1. Wouldn’t that have been the lead-up to the president’s speech? I missed ‘Countdown’ live so I’m not sure, but I seem to remember earlier hearing Chris Matthews announce he’d be on with Keith both before and after the speech.

  2. Skimming by the network last night, they did run a documentary at 10 PM PT instead of the president’s address again.

  3. Couldn’t Olbermann have cut another segment to update it, etc for the midnight replay? How long would that have taken? Geez.

  4. Not to mention that the first documentary they were showing “To Hell and Back” was a “premiere”.

Personally I think that MSNBC should’ve stayed live until 11PM ET with analysis of the president’s speech. Then if they wanted they could’ve shown “To Hell and Back”. They have done similar things with “Dead Man Talking” and premiering new episodes at 11 PM.

  5. So they deemed a second run of the President’s speech (and the post-speech analysis) not as important as reruns of reruns (the doc block)? Is MSNBC the only news channel of the three to play the speech etc only one?

  6. johnny dollar-

They opted not to show a rerun of the presidential address, so their west coast viewers could see the ever exciting premiere of their new doc “To Hell and Back”.

  7. The counter-programming probably did very well in the ratings. We will find out soon I suppose…

  8. Too Funny, we lost the tape on purpose?

  9. How funny! At least someone in broadcasting doesn’t take themselves too seriously.

I’m sure the “hate Olbermann” crowd will consider this a vast conspiracy against the President.

  10. Sounds to me like a “jab” at AC360/CNN for losing that tape recently.

  11. No Champa. But he’s stealing the self-aggrandizing hype from America’s Anchorman, radio legend and Nobel peace prize nominee Rush!

  12. I almost forgot. Yes, that was very strange that the went right to the docs at 10 p.m. I hope they’re not billing themselves as America’s political channel!

  13. It was not Tuesday. They are only a part time political channel (Tuesdays) just like they are a part time news channel (ala Saturday and Sunday closed for business).

  14. “we lost the tape”!!

Does anyone believe this? Of course not!!
