Is September TVNewser bashing month?

Big Head DC beats up on TVNewser for being selective in which stories it’s posting…among other things.

Update: The original update is no more as it turns out I was misreading Big Head DC’s post. I thought BH was referring to the original Playboy quote when it turns out it was referring to the Portfolio’s Jeff Bercovici’s response to the Playboy quote. Accordingly, I’ve taken back the Raspberry I gave to Big Head DC and I’ve given it to myself. In addition to the bop on the head of course…

  1. Ok, I just read the big head dc piece. Well, TVN did post that KO story with a very short headline about, “its a doozy.” (with a link) And how would I know this? Because I saw it. Tell me, is there a difference in mentioning something with a link versus making a spectacle out of it? Sorry, he might be guilty of “half-assing” it, but thats about it concerning this particular item, IMO. On the TVN subject, I’m wondering if covering cable and broadcast is too much on his plate.

  2. I think covering anything but MSNBC/CNBC/NBC is beyond TVN.

  3. I think that none of these sites that cover how the news is covered, need to be covering how others are covering the coverage of news.

  4. It’s a blog thing. I’m not going to speak for others but I don’t just cover how the news is covered but how the news is covered by the blogs that cover it. Because how a blog talks about how a story is being covered can be just as germaine as how the story is being covered. What the blogs, and their more powerful TV and print bretheren, say and how they say it shapes the coverage.

But at least ICN has comments so that you can tell me how I shouldn’t be covering such and such a story such and such a way. And I really do listen to all the comments. Sometimes you even make me change my mind.

  5. Just learning that the TVnewser guy is orginally from MS-NBC makes all the sense in the world now as I read that blog. It’s worth pointing out this stuff and does contribute to the discussion.

  6. I’m wrong but not guilty! I do see where he mentioned the tip box in connection to Portfolio. Yet, I’ve found the main problem with this writeup. “Now most blogs this week, including Big Bead DC, picked up on stories regarding Olbermann’s interview in the October issue of Playboy.” This makes it seem like TVN didn’t cover/link to ICN (regarding said article) in the first place…. which is false or at least misleading.

  7. Let’s see the guy worked for MSNBC and he praises MSNBC talent like KO…Wow what a shock!!!!!!…Well it looks like the new TVNewser is just like the old TVNewser.

  8. I was more annoyed with his blurb earlier this week (not mentioned here) about Jack Cafferty’s fans demanding more air time for him and posted a link to a new website.

A nice back door way to promote Cafferty’s new book.

  9. Ever notice ICN has MORE FNC blog posts? Hmmm…AND ICN is just like FNC, ICN is right…everybodyy else is WRONG.

  10. I’m not always right. There’s lots of times when I’m wrong. Today is a perfect example. As for the number of posts. As of right now…

    CNBC - 437
    CNN - 1730
    FOX Business Network - 124
    FOX News Channel - 2029
    Headline News - 181
    MSNBC - 1664

It’s worth noting that this is based on the tags I assign to a blog post. Some posts have overlapping tags where more than one network it tagged to the blog. But yeah there are more FNC tags than CNN and MSNBC tags. It is what it is. I guess if you’re the number #1 network, there’s more out there. It doesn’t hurt that so many people are so vocally passionate about FNC whether they’re for it or against it. I don’t set out to write about FNC more than other nets. In truth I have to work harder to look for stories to post about MSNBC than either CNN or FNC by far.

  11. FOX uses the blogs to get free publicity. MSNBC and CNN should do so as well. Rick Kaplan went nuts when people leaked stuff to the bloggers. Even good stuff promoting the programming he didn’t like seing on the blogs. That’s why you don’t see a lot from MSNBC. FOX doesn’t seem to care since they seem to have the most leaks… and a lot of their stuff ends up on Drudge… and it’s a safe bet that the stuff that gets on there comes from pretty high up the food chain at FOX… but why would they care? If anything, it causes curious viewers to tune it and sample the network.

FOX has always had a masterful promotions/PR department. MSNBC’s PR people absolutely suck at their jobs and they just have not adopted to new media. And that is what makes it so scary… MSNBC was built around Technology… you’d think that going back to their roots… they’d have embraced the bloggers a little more…

  12. There was an excerpt from Laura Ingraham’s new book, where when she first worked at MS-NBC they had no teleprompters for months and she & her producers would write an outline for the show on a giant pad of paper. (Just a side note thought: Can you imagine Olbermann without a teleprompter?)

  13. And it’s all about connections. insiders you have to suck up to to make the posts to their likings. if you dont they cut you off! spud must have a direct link to roger ailes…oh wait his connection is johnny dollar. dont blame tvn for having more connections to folks at msnbc. he cant help it.

I’ve been “in trouble” with all three networks at one time or another. Usually it’s my fault.

spud must have a direct link to roger ailes…oh wait his connection is johnny dollar. dont blame tvn for having more connections to folks at msnbc. he cant help it.

I’ve never had any communication with Roger Ailes. Or Jonathan Klein. Or Dan Abrams. I don’t need that to do the blog. And they have better things to do with their time than worry about what some blogger is doing.

Besides, my intel is about equal with all three networks for the most part.
