What’s hot/What’s Not: 9/16/07
What’s Hot:
FNC scoring the Petraeus/Crocker exclusive - FNC and Brit Hume had them to themselves. Everyone else had to sit and wait their turn and subsequently nobody spent the amount of time with them that FNC did.
Anderson Cooper 360 - Anderson Cooper reported from Iraq this week. But Cooper was overshadowed by confusion over the future of the second hour of his show late in the week.
MSNBC’s Primetime 9/11 rebroadcast - Although I don’t understand rebroadcasting this a 2nd year in a row, I’m in the minority apparently as the 9/11 rebroadcast of the Today Shows coverage of 9/11 brought MSNBC big numbers and won it the primetime Demo.
What’s Not:
O.J. Simpson rears his ugly head - Friday was an ominous day for those of us still recovering from the 1994-1995 saga. O.J. Simpson was named as a suspect in a “robbery” attempt in Las Vegas. Suddenly, cable news was having major O.J. flashbacks. It went into overdrive Sunday when he was arrested. I’d plead for some self-restraint but, alas, I know better…
Appendectomies - ICN hopes Keith Olbermann has a speedy and complication free recovery…

“ICN hopes Keith Olbermann has a speedy and complication free recovery…”
We gotta have ole Keith around to keep things interesting, so I hope he does get better quickly.

Was the Patreus interview “scored” by Fox News or handed to them on a silver platter?

The only problem with the Patreus interview is that it was an important issue during this last week, but actually scored rather low in the ratings vs. other programming that evening if I remember right.
Anyway, I hope that we can (well, the ones who can’t stand it) get through Simpson at least this week and see Olbermann return in good health.

I’m truly dreading the inevitable, excessive OJ coverage on the news programs I watch this week. I didn’t bother to watch the news today because of it.

The media is about to make complete fools of themselves again with O.J Simpson saga. Happens every time. After every debacle, Simpson1, Monica Lewinsky, Anna Nicole Smith or Paris Hilton, they swear “never again”. Alas we all know what is about to happen. All this reminds me why some time back I started hating TV with a passion. Time to shut of the TV off for a while. What does this say to our men and women dying in Iraq? Dying to make it safe for the media to engage in feeding frenzies? I can just see it already; OJ will trump everything. From Iraq, to Wall Street to 2008 elections. The scum from Simpson1 are even beginning to resurface. Geraldo, now his brother? Oh Lord.

I never understood the Geraldo + brother duo, I mean, it just always seems kinda out of place for a network to allow it, beyond the point they seem different like night and day.
At least the new Big Story is coming up tomorrow, so it should be interesting to see how it looks and works.

It’s going to go like this: John Gibson in studio, and I’ll make a bet that Heather is on location in Las Vegas. The promo that FOX is running for the new Big Story has her saying that when there is a BIG story, she is going to be in the field covering it… so… I will be shocked if she is in the studio with John tomorrow because no matter how you slice it… or despise it.. this OJ thing is a big story in their eyes… It appears as though Heather is going to be the shows “go to” person in the field… just like Shepard has Trace Gallegher as his senior guy on FOX Report… it’s actually a pretty good move on their part… if you have dedicated reporters working individually for each show, even covering the same story… it helps keep fresh content on the air. MSNBC should take notes as they are notorious for reusing the same stuff over and over again.

Spud: That is a curious comment. Except for the Goldman and Brown families, I would think that 12-13 years is enough time for the rest of us to have recovered.
Memo to KO while you are recovering from your appendix surgery: OJ Simpson truly is “The Worst Person In The World!”
