Christiane Amanpour to interview Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

CNN announced that Christiane Amanpour will interview Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Anderson Cooper 360 Wednesday, Sept 26th at 10pm ET…

CNN chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour conducts an extensive interview with Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday, Sept. 26, after the embattled leader finishes a tour of New York City that includes an address to the U.N. General Assembly, a videoconference with the National Press Club and an event before 600 students and faculty at Columbia University.

Parts of the interview will air throughout the day on both CNN/U.S. and CNN International with the full interview airing that evening during Anderson Cooper 360° at 10 p.m. (ET) Amanpour will provide live reports and analysis throughout the day.

Amanpour’s interview with Ahmadinejad marks her second with the Iranian president. She first interviewed him in September 2005 just hours before he addressed delegates at the U.N. General Assembly claiming Iran has a right to pursue nuclear power.

As the network’s chief international correspondent, Amanpour has not only reported on most crises from many of the world’s hotspots, including Afghanistan, the Balkans, Iran, Iraq, the Middle East, Pakistan and Somalia but has interviewed many of the world’s most important leaders. Such assignments have included exclusive interviews with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, Pakistan’s Gen. Pervez Musharraf, Jordan’s King Abdullah and King Hussein, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak and Russia’s Mikhail Gorbachev.

  1. I always look forward to Amanpour’s pieces. She’s one of the best, and most respectable journalists on TV. It’ll probably be worth putting the time in to watch it.

  3. This figures! Amanpour and her BFF, “I’m A Nut Job”!!
“Embattled leader”?? Give me a break.
These left wing loonies at CNN continue to amaze me.
But I am sorry that Anderson Cooper is being dragged into it. Why not do it on Larry King or The Situation Room?

  7. Christiane Amanpour is one of the world’s best journalists. She is intelligent, articulate and well-informed. Sandra Cardozo is obviously none of the above. Keep those Amanpour programs coming!

  8. My fondest memory of Christiane Amanpour was when she was standing at the destroyed, vacant house of the Afghan Taliban leader when the US began its Afghanistan invasion. She was stressing the so-called “opulence” he was surrounded in, while the rest of his country was starving, desperately justifying our government’s case for war.

I couldn’t help but think that I’ve seen more decadent houses on a single Malibu block.

The other was this generalized “women-abuse” that was drummed into our heads, another case for war it seemed.

At the same time, her husband, James Rubin (then the US State Department Spokesman of Jewish-faith), was on the news channels stressing that our boys were not only dropping bombs on the Afghan’s heads but also dropping food. He was stressing the “humane” in our inhumanity. Funny that the cluster bombs were colored yellow and similar in shape to the food packets we were air-dropping.

How many innocent Afghan children have lost their lives because of that “intentional”/”unintentional” blunder?

Historically, she is not the best person for interviewing anyone of Middle-Eastern decent, without bringing a bias of pro-Israel and pro-US Administration to the table.

    Objective Journalist? Pfft …

  9. Sandra Cardoso was probably an ilegal inmigrant herself, on the basis of her spelling abilities (Can’t stomac her), she was probably a maid, hence, her idea of deporting people as punishment!

  10. I would have to agree with Michelle’s statement about Amanpour and her pro-Israeli biased journalism; however she does allow sheltered Americans a brief chance to be exposed to interviews with such controversial political figures. Even if Amanpour and CNN conduct these sensational interviews for ratings and publicity, it’s certainly better and more informative than watching another episode of celebrity filled gossip. Wish there was a way for Americans to receive true unbiased news that’s not just about some out of touch leader in the Middle East. From what little I know of Ahmadinejad he has about as much respect and popularity in his country as Bush does in the US. Irnaians actually like Americans and are very well educated people contrary to what the current administration and media reports.
