CNN vs. O’Reilly: O’Reilly’s turn…

Part of Bill O’Reilly’s Talking Points Memo on CNN…

Recently on the Radio Factor, I did an hour on how racism is dumb, how it is driven by fear and I even used my own late grandmother as an example. Now you can hear that radio hour on billoreilly.com. It’s a very interesting discussion and we didn’t hear one complaint about the program that ran on more than 400 radio stations.

Well, yesterday Media Matters distorted the entire conversation and implied I was racist for condemning racism.

Stunningly, CNN echoed the defamation on at least three of its programs. The reason CNN did this is because its ratings are abysmal. It is getting hammered by Fox News so they are desperate for attention and smearing me is one way to get it.

Unfortunately, many in CNN’s audience have no idea what I said and some believe the garbage they are hearing.

FNC and CNN cover Ahmadinejad UN Speech. MSNBC opts out…

Both FNC and CNN carried President Ahmadinejad’s UN Speech today. However MSNBC opted not to. Perhaps after carrying yesterday’s Ahmadinejad university appearance, MSNBC had decided that was enough of Ahmadinejad? MSNBC did cover President Bush’s UN speech this morning.

One Big Cramped Family?

Big Head DC blogs about MSNBC’s DC unit now being under the NBC DC Bureau’s roof…

And now some physical limitations of the new space are becoming clear. Thus, you’ve got news reporter David Shuster sharing office space with a political pundit Pat Buchanan. These types of news/opinion syntheses had always tried to be avoided in the past. However, the new space, we hear, just can’t allow for that traditional boundary to remain.

The National Academy of Television and Arts and Sciences awarded CNN an Emmy award for the network’s live minute-by-minute coverage of the 2006 Election Day, in which Democrats took control of both the U.S. House and Senate for the first time in 12 years. The academy presented the 28th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards on Monday, Sept. 24, during a black-tie ceremony at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City.

Most influential pundits?

Editor and Publisher notes that Forbes has put out a list of the ten most influential pundits. Roger Ebert was ranked number 1…

Comedian Bill Maher, who has a weekly talk show on HBO, was ranked second, followed by cable talker Bill O’Reilly; liberal radio host and comedian Al Franken; TV journalist Geraldo Rivera; comedian Rosie O’Donnell; film critic Leonard Maltin; legal commentator Greta Van Susteren; economics news commentator Lou Dobbs; and basketball analyst Bill Walton.

TV remains the punditry kingmaker, Forbes said.

“Each one of our top 10, along with near misses like Jesse Jackson, Sean Hannity and Keith Olbermann, are brought to the public domain primarily through television (radio superstar Rush Limbaugh is the only exception in the close-but-no-cigar crowd),” Van Riper wrote.

Inside CNN’s Election Express bus…

Uh oh…

I first read this last night. I was on the fence about blogging about it. But then I heard that WABC’s 11 pm news did a report on it tonight. So here it is…

Update: I have replaced the original link with one that puts the matter in context because ICN isn’t going to be a party to misinformation…

O”REILLY: Now, how do we get to this point? Black people in this country understand that they’ve had a very, very tough go of it, and some of them can get past that, and some of them cannot. I don’t think there’s a black American who hasn’t had a personal insult that they’ve had to deal with because of the color of their skin. I don’t think there’s one in the country. So you’ve got to accept that as being the truth. People deal with that stuff in a variety of ways. Some get bitter. Some say, [unintelligible] “You call me that, I’m gonna be more successful.” OK, it depends on the personality.

So it’s there. It’s there, and I think it’s getting better. I think black Americans are starting to think more and more for themselves. They’re getting away from the Sharptons and the Jacksons and the people trying to lead them into a race-based culture. They’re just trying to figure it out: “Look, I can make it. If I work hard and get educated, I can make it.”

You know, I was up in Harlem a few weeks ago, and I actually had dinner with Al Sharpton, who is a very, very interesting guy. And he comes on The Factor a lot, and then I treated him to dinner, because he’s made himself available to us, and I felt that I wanted to take him up there. And we went to Sylvia’s, a very famous restaurant in Harlem. I had a great time, and all the people up there are tremendously respectful. They all watch The Factor. You know, when Sharpton and I walked in, it was like a big commotion and everything, but everybody was very nice.
