You know, this could be a turning point for those Soros groups. First the MoveOn NYT attack ad gets widely criticized… and now O’Reilly attack is falling flat.
What’s this, two… three… bad weeks in a row? This could be very bad for them.

Another left-wing smear group exposed for the American public to see.

If this is called inside cable, why are you talking about Today show and not Morning Joe’s O’Reilly attack?
Comment by moonbeam — September 26, 2007 @ 1:40 pm
Because nobody actually watches Morning Joe…
Comment by ImNotBlue — September 26, 2007 @ 2:10 pm
moonbeam, Scarborough is so irrelevant it’s not even funny. What’s his audience, 100,000 or so?
(As I’ve noted before, I was a huge Scarborough fan at first. But he has become extremely dishonest in his conversation/reporting as of late, and has now lost all credibility with me.)
But for the Today show to defend O’Reilly is unbelievable. Lauer really did stick up for him! Thank God. It’s about time someone from the MSM actually listens to the facts instead of just taking off on the current “spin” of a story.
And for the record, the MM guy (Paul whoever) even said that O’Reilly wasn’t acting racist; he just commented on how it seemed that O’Reilly was “surprised” by what he observed in the restaurant (normal behavior).

And don’t take my last sentence out of context; I am just reiterating what the MM guy said about O’Reilly’s comments. My God; O’Reilly was talking about his grandmother and context is CRITICAL here in the > 1 hr. discussion O’Reilly had w/Juan Williams.

Good point about MJ. I could only take about 5-10 minutes before I went back to F&F. And yes, Missy, Scarborough seems have lost any moral compass he had and been swallowed up by the MSNBC poison - that or the guy is just empty without an original thought (which is possible). I hate that Willie seems to be on board.
I don’t watch The Today Show so I don’t know about Lauer but BO said he appreciated him on his radio show today.

I recall how Olbermann praised Lauer and Roker during the Imus deal. I wonder if Olby will blast his colleagues this time.

Kiran Chetry defended BO yesterday, too, on American Morning. She continually read the context of a statement that was being talked about by her interviewee, a radio talk show host. I’m not a CNN fan, just of Kiran, and watch her during F&F commercials.
Comment by Nancy — September 26, 2007 @ 3:40 pm
Well that’s good, if Kiran, too, defended O’Reilly. It’s not like you even have to like the guy, but facts are facts - he clearly did not mean these comments to be racists, and he was certainly taken out of context.
Hopefully Sharpton’s appearance on The Factor tonight will put an end to this all (I can’t believe I’m actually thinking that Sharpton will be of help, but we all know that even a broken clock is right twice a day…)
Comment by Missy — September 26, 2007 @ 3:57 pm
comments to be racist (singular). Sorry.
Comment by Missy — September 26, 2007 @ 3:58 pm
Well if Lauer defends O’Reilly, I guess Bill will stop smearing the Today show.
I don’t think Bill’s comments were racist. I thought it when I first heard about this, but then I got my hands on the whole conversation I reshaped my opinion. Bill could’ve shaped his comments much better, though.
Comment by Aaron — September 26, 2007 @ 4:42 pm
Wow. Aaron, are you actually admitting Media Matters took what Bill O said out of context, and that it was a smear on that part, along with CNN and MSNBC?
Comment by bigred — September 26, 2007 @ 4:57 pm
Exactly how far do you think the raw flesh will travel when Bill O’s ego finally explodes? I think it will take the Hubble Telescope to track it all.
Comment by Roger C. — September 26, 2007 @ 6:47 pm
Media Matters and the guy speaking for them on Today are absolutely unbelievable. As Johnny Dollar pointed out, the entire conversation was 40 minutes, of which MM posted 5 and then insists they took nothing out of context. If they had listened to the other 35 minutes (which of course they have no interest in doing), that idiot Paul guy would know O’Reilly wasn’t “surprised” or “shocked” at how similar a black restaurant is to a white restaurant. The only racism to be found in that conversation is after MM cherry-picked the comments to mean what they wanted them to mean.
Comment by Laurel — September 26, 2007 @ 8:14 pm
Media Matters took this out of context, but not that much. All these other shows totally blew it up to critical mass and it exploded and in the end this is just pushing Media Matters toward greater fame.
Bill O’Reilly, should just say I should have shaped my comments better and then leave it alone. If he believes MM to be as bad as he says, drop it and don’t feed them with more crap to throw in this pile of sh*t story.
Comment by Aaron — September 26, 2007 @ 8:15 pm
O’Reilly should at least admit he could have chosen better words than “I couldn’t get over the fact that there was no difference from Sylvia’s…”. That “I” he is referring to is himself.. not his grandmother. There is a bit of distortion going on with O’Reilly side also.
That being said.. I think O’Reilly mispoke and wasn’t actually surprised. But, I can certainly see some confusion as he does actually seem surprised at this point in the editorial. Him being surprised doesn’t make sense later when he critiques his grandmother for not “getting out” and being fearful of blacks. I agree with Laurer… he could have been more clear and I think O’Reilly could at least admit that.
