Now that MSNBC is officially acknowledging Morning Joe (it just took 4 months!)…perhaps viewers are too!

F&F had more in the demo than MJ total. If people thought MSNBC shows tanked before…this is almost CNBCesque numbers. (and not everyone is expected to tune into Wall Street all day so at least CNBC has an excuse) MSNBC might as well show dead air, that’s more exciting than MJ. (or show NBC sports reruns)

A few observations:
1) Did anyone notice that little “gimmick” 360 had yesterday? Apparently AC said something to the effect of “we got emails saying our breaks our too long, so we’re going to reduce them” –so they introduced this “back in 60 seconds” thing. At first I thought great! 60 second went by so fast, what a great idea! But then they threw in a break every 5 minutes! What a rip-off!
2) I noticed that CNN and Olbermann have gotten quite competitive in the demo these past few days…a trend, or just a one-time blip?

As Spud pointed out in another post, American Morning’s ratings are dropping. I never thought Morning Joe would regain the #2 spot MSNBC enjoyed with Imus, but now I’m thinking it just might happen (not to say Joe Scarborough is better than Imus).
CNN’s “Out in the Open” did well. Perhaps Rick Sanchez is a more suitable replacement for Paula Zahn than Campbell Brown will be???

Um Anonymous, here are the numbers for Out in the Open and COuntdown Yesterday
Out in the Open – 419,000 viewers (117,000) LSD: 435,000 viewers (117,000)
Countdown w/ Olbermann- 802,000 viewers (267,000) LSD: 852,000 viewers (295,000)
So what are you referring to with your post saying the past couple days? Evidence would say this is thefore a blip.

How sad for AM that Morning Joe is not far behind. How humiliating it will be for them if he every catches or surpasses them in ratings. Joe’s “show” is one of the lamest out there and it would be pathetic if he ever gained more viewers than AM.
F&F had a BIG morning.
Comment by jerziegrl — September 26, 2007 @ 8:49 pm
I thought he had finally developed a good 9:00pm show on MSNBC
Its a shame he lost it and got demoted to the AM….

Audience for Bill O’Reilly at 8 p.m. - 2,040,000 viewers
COMBINED AUDIENCE for Out in the Open, Nancy Grace, Keith Olbermann and Fast Money at 8 p.m. - 1,847,000 viewers
Can we still expect to see fools writing for American publications continue to ignore facts and continue to claim that Olbermann is a “success” who “dominates” at 8 p.m.?
Comment by Tom — September 26, 2007 @ 9:34 pm
Tom, can you provide a source that says Olbermann dominates 8pm?
Comment by randy — September 26, 2007 @ 10:08 pm
Olby has the most useless viewers for advertisers. DVR viewers who fast foward through the commercials if they even watch the recorded show. Double whammy.
Comment by Lurker — September 26, 2007 @ 10:14 pm
Tom, can you provide a source that says Olbermann dominates 8pm?
Comment by randy — September 26, 2007 @ 10:08 pm
Randy, I’m happy to provide a source. His name is David Bauder of the Associated Press. Bauder alleged a couple of months ago that “8 p.m.” is “dominated” by “Bill O’Reilly and Keith Olbermann.” “[A]nd Keith Olbermann”? ROTFLMAO! Sorry, but 8 p.m. is in no way “dominated” by “Keith Olbermann.” Evidently David Bauder lives outside of the thinking community.

FOX NEWS RULES Thank GOD FOR RUPERT MURDOCK.The king of all media now!
Comment by SHANE — September 27, 2007 @ 12:12 am
You’re just blowing smoke, Tom. If someone says that A & B dominate something, they aren’t saying that B by itself dominates it. If that’s all you’ve got, you’ve got nothing. So far, nobody has been cited who says that Olbermann dominates 8pm.
Comment by Gramps — September 27, 2007 @ 12:20 am
Yes, Gramps… but saying that A and B “dominate” something implies that they are on par with one another. However, when there’s such a disparity between O’Reilly’s numbers and Olbermann’s numbers… you can’t really lump them together. That’s trying to lump O’Reilly’s success in with Olbermann’s mediocre performance.
“A and B” dominating together implies a “tie”… and there certainly is no tie in the 8pm cable race.
Comment by ImNotBlue — September 27, 2007 @ 1:39 am
Sorry Gramps. Time for more Metamucil. Tom is right.
There’s only one show that dominates at 8pm and that’s O’Reilly, who averages 3 times Olbermann’s audience on a nightly basis. For any reporter to refer to Olbermann dominating in terms of ratings is completely and utterly wrong.
Comment by bigred — September 27, 2007 @ 1:41 am
Using “Gramps” logic, I’d like to point out that Bill Gates and I dominate the country as far as net worth!
Yes, Bauder and others in the print media have innundated us with stories about Keith and his ratings “domination”, or “surge”, even though the data proves otherwise. Gramps and randy, we write about this frequently here and call these newspaper writers out for their distortions constantly! And while Bauder distorts by writing glowingly about Keith, he actually lied when he wrote a synopsis about this week’s O’Reilly’s fiasco (see Spud’s “O’Reilly TPM: Update” post, and related comments).
It’s just insulting to see these people write things when the truth is easily discernable by anyone who can read. They are playing to the lowest element, apparently.
Comment by Missy — September 27, 2007 @ 9:06 am
“They are playing to the lowest element, apparently.” That would be the average Olby viewer.
Comment by eddiebear — September 27, 2007 @ 9:17 am
How long will MSNBC’s parent company, GE continue throwing good money after bad? MSNBC is undoubtedly the lamest excuse for “news” out there. Between Chris Matthews and his buttboy David Shuster, the less than trivial KO, and the liberal suck-up Moron Joe, you’d think that MSNBC would finally get the picture that people reject such blatant liberal spew. Anybody so royally botched things as badly as Dan Abrams has would have been out on their can long ago. But liberals apparently don’t mind paying millions of dollars for the opportunity to lie. Just look at George Soros.
Comment by flappy — September 27, 2007 @ 11:03 am
Moron Joe is far from a liberal flappy.
Comment by Aaron — September 27, 2007 @ 4:56 pm
I said Moron Joe is a liberal suck up. That is to say he sucks up to liberals.
