“Happy Negro” redux: Video…
Why did CNN let Watkins back on the air again after the first incident? And why wasn’t Watkins given a talking to beforehand by producers about what is appropriate on the air and what isn’t? You look at the two incidents and it’s hard not to draw the conclusion that CNN deliberately put Watkins back on the air again hoping for more fireworks.

But Cnn is “the gold standard of journalism”. They wouldn’t do something like this. What on earth would give anyone the idea that Cnn was trying to stir up racial tensions?

I think that’s incredibly insulting to Williams. I have a lot of respect for him and he doesn’t deserve that.
I’d agree with your conclusion, Spud. The news networks know that fireworks like these are good for getting the viewers in. For instance, whenever Hannity and Barron get together, you can be sure there’s going to be fireworks.
Comment by STP — September 27, 2007 @ 2:16 pm
Yeah, but at least Barron is a council person or something. He needs to be held accountable for his loony comments… and an elected somebody… not just a college prof.
Although the real fireworks start when Leo Terrell shows up… he’s certifiably insane… but funny because of it. I don’t know if you saw the last time when he was on talking about OJ… here’s the YouTube clip.

Hilarious!

Yep! LOL, Leo’s a riot! I love it when he’s on
H&C.
Comment by A.M. — September 27, 2007 @ 2:53 pm
I was watching Leo that night.. I am leaving. I mean it. Sean Hannity, it’s my show I can ask the questions I want…Leo, I warned you I am not answering any of those old O.J., questions…then Leo is removing his mic and the next thing there is a Split Screen, showing the chair he was just sitting in empty…yeah you go Leo GRIN. I wonder what is the stomp off count, from Hannity and Colmes. I remember the night Laura Ingraham, got angry at Hannity and did a stomp off.

My how CNN has fallen. After years of getting their butts handed to them by FNC, their new ploy for boosting their ratings is drumming up phony racial controversies against the competition.
And where is the real racism here? “Happy Negro”? Sounds to me like he’s saying Juan Williams is an “Uncle Tom”. Really, really despicable for CNN to allow and even promote this crap…. twice.
Comment by bigred — September 27, 2007 @ 3:27 pm
Blue & Ree: I didn’t care for Hannity’s recent
behavior with Leo Terrell. He unnecessarily taunted Leo, knowing he would walk off.
Given his opinion of the OJ murder trial, I was interested in Leo comments on Simpson’s current problems.

What the hell is wrong with these networks.?
CNN knew what this guy said and still bring him on.
It shows journalism and news is all crap and that the media is very corrupt.

Ree: “I remember the night Laura Ingraham, got angry at Hannity and did a stomp off”.
I sorta remember her doing that but couldn’t remember why so I looked it up. Seems like she didn’t like all the bickering and her not being able to get a word in edgewise. She didn’t come back after the break. Can’t say that I blame her. LOL!
And didn’t Ann Coulter do a stomp off once too? It seems I remember her leaving took Kirsten Powers a bit by surprise.
Comment by STP — September 27, 2007 @ 3:48 pm
If I’m not mistaken, that’s the time Kirsten ripped
Ann a new one!

CNN brought this guy on knowing full well he’d do a hatchet job on Williams. That was his whole purpose for being there. Despicable.
I hope Juan is back on BOR tonight.
Comment by A.M. — September 27, 2007 @ 4:26 pm
This Boyce Watkins character gives no reason whatsoever for trashing Juan Williams. So we’re left with the impression that he had to use the pejorative with Juan only because Juan sided with O’Reilly, public enemy #1 this week. Juan was a party to the conversation and he, more than anyone else, would be in a position to assess O’Reilly’s comments and motives. But that’s not good enough for the O’Reilly bashers!!!
What I HATE most about this situation is that if O’Reilly meant the words to be racist, he’d come out even at this point and say yes, blacks are (fill in the pejorative). But no; instead, he’s come out to CLARIFY that his comments were NOT meant to be derrogatory in nature. And instead of people growing up, taking his word for it and dropping the subject, a whole cottage industry is being born out of these statements.
Blacks will now feel that whatever problems they have in life are now attributed to O’Reilly or Don Imus! Instead of taking personal responsibility, it’s easier to blame these public figures, instead of listening to people like Bill Cosby who compel them to get their lives and families together. Victimology lives!

I should have started my last paragraph with “some blacks”.

Ira… I agree that Hannity was taunting him. But… it was still funny when he left.
Comment by ImNotBlue — September 28, 2007 @ 10:53 am
Why won’t Bill play the ENTIRE interview with Juan? Until he does play and allows his followers to hear the Juan/Bill dialogue, his lame excuse “taken out of context” is nothing but a joke. NPR finds Williams has a few problems (see Bush interview request). Juan is just a faux new joke now. PLAY THE ENTIRE TAPE!

PAMB, stop parroting Keith Olbermann’s talking points that he gets from Media Matters.
Comment by Edward Schatz — September 28, 2007 @ 3:56 pm
Isn’t the whole interview available at Bill’s website, PAMB? Doesn’t Bill say that everytime?
Oh here it is:

And maybe… just maybe… he won’t play the whole thing because it’s… oh… OVER 30 MINUTES LONG AND WOULD TAKE UP TOO MUCH TIME! Have fun drinking the kool-aide.
